Welcome to the weekend, Cutetropolitans! Today’s conversation cat comes from Gigi the cat lady, who writes: “Here is a photo of my cat Mia, she is 11 years old and thinks the whole world revolves around her. And of course it does!”

Mia is a beauty! I’m pretty sure the entire universe revolves around her, not just the world! ๐
Well duh, of course the world revolves around her. Silly to think otherwise. ๐ Gorgeous girl!! ๐
Mia is a knockout. She deserves to be the center of attention.
People, I’m thrilled to report that Fred Weasleycat has recovered from whatever almost killed him. He’s still wobbly when he walks and doesn’t try to jump up on anything; that’s about it for symptoms. We saw the vet yesterday and she’s amazed. She was sure he wouldn’t make it and we’ll never know what happened. Maybe a stroke; maybe some sort of infection that hit his brain (but how did he contract it?); maybe a fight with Scorpius that made him too scared to eat and drink. He got another antibiotic shot just to be on the safe side.
Fred is out of isolation but staying upstairs for at least a week, so I can keep a close eye on him. Later today, big strong men are coming over to move my office down to a room in the basement and some basement furniture up to the main floor. The new room will be a guest room, yarn room, and kitty isolation ward. Once I’m spending more time in the basement office and studio, Fred can visit and I can see how he and Scorpius interact. I can also try to deferalize Scorp, whom I haven’t touched in months.
Kitties can be so dramatic.
Wonderful, wonderful news! I can really understand your joy.
I’m so happy to hear the good news about Fred Weasleycat! That’s wonderful. And it sounds like your new room arrangements are also good news. How lovely!
Yay for Fred! You must be incredibly relieved. Many, many good thoughts coming your way.
So happy to hear that Fred is recovering. I didn’t want to mention it when he was ill, but the symptoms seemed awfully familiar to what my Babyface went through. He had had surgery a week prior for an abscess, was doing great, and one night over the course of a few hours he declined rapidly, to the point where he was incontinent and blind, as well as severely dehydrated. The vet thought probably some kind of stroke, or other neurological issue. Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to him that night. He was 18, though, so at least he lived a long life and was healthy up until the surgery.
I appreciate your thoughtfulness! Your story would indeed have panicked me. Poor sweet BabyfaceโIโm sure he had a wonderful life.
Fred is only 6, which seems way too young for a stroke, but you never know.
Yay for Fred. ๐๐บ
More yays for Fred!
Long live Fred Weaselycat!
May I share some good news with you, Cutetropolitans? Friday was our grading conference and the director called me into his office. There I signed my contract for next year. But it was not a yearly contract. Y’all, I signed a PERMANENT contract to teach in Austria! the implications have yet to hit me, but I have much, MUCH less to worry about! Plus, grades have been submitted so aside from a couple of excursions this coming week, I am looking at 70 days without teaching! I am so happy I can hardly stand it!
Congratulation!!
Thank you, Gigi! Also, Mia is so floofy!
Congratulations, N. Fritz!
Thank you! How is Bibi?!
Congrats! I guess youโre sticking with teaching, then?
We’ll see, DebG. I have been “going by the books” because I didn’t want to do anything to jeopardize my job. Now I feel like I have a little more freedom to do what I want. In any event, I have time to plan how to be a better teacher!
Congratulations, N. Fritz! I envy your 70 days off but I hope they rejuvenating for you!
Thanks, AmyLiz! Part of those 70 days will be spent in IC, if you’re up to meeting for coffee!
Congratulations!
Thank you!
Congrats! Have a wonderful summer! Try to stay cool!
(This was meant as a reply to N. Fritz). Congratulations! Does this permanent contract affect your ability to stay in Austria? Is it also financially beneficial in the sense of more money now or more long term financial security? You don’t have to explain the benefits of 70 days off!
Awesome N.Fritz. I can feel your excitement from a whole other continent! And 70 days off…whoa I am getting dizzy!!
Dulcie, the trick is to make every day count! Yesterday was very eventful, and today we’re going to go to a local gorge to beat the heat. There may be ice cream involved!
Thank you, Dubravka! It should mean that applying for residency will no longer be as stressful. My job had already credited me with 14 years of service, so my salary is nothing to sneeze at. But I am very much relieved to have more stability than I’ve had the past 13 years!
I can’t tell you how much it lifted my spirit to see Mia be the Caturday cat of Cutetropolis this morning. I know I haven’t commented much, I’m not going to bore you with all the details lets just that since March my life has been kind of chaotic but life is getting back to normal (maybe?)
Let me tell you a bit about Mia instead, last year after blood tests the vet diagnosed 2 of my cat with liver problems, Boo went within a couple of weeks after the diagnosis and since I had lost Penny to cancer a month before that, I swore to do everything I could do to keep Mia.
Well it worked, she is still here! She still has liver problems and is stil very thin (it doesn’t show under all the fluff) but she acts normal and rules the other 2 cats like she always did but I have to feed her small portion several times a day and she also wakes me up twice sometimes three times a night to feed her (she only eats one kind of wet food and will not eat dry food).
In short, Mia is my miracle cat and she is also a giant pain in the tuchus! But she MY giant pain in the tuchus and I wouldn’t give her up for anything. LOL!
Mia is a pretty, pretty girl who is justly the turning point of the world. I’m glad you were able to bring her back to health. And I do hope the chaos continues to recede.
Mia’s fragility makes her even more beautiful. I’m glad life is getting simpler.
Gigi, itโs the ones we work hardest to save that cling most tightly to our hearts. I sure feel that way about Fred now!
Youโll find your way through the chaos.
Aw, Mia has such a sweet face. Happy for everyone’s happy news.
My parents are in Connecticut and I am spending some quality time with little miss Stars. Which of course means she spends most of her time hiding under the bed or somewhere while I’m here in the living room. (Right now she’s in the kitchen having her breakfast.)
I wish I had this excuse for getting nothing done…
Mia, you are gorgeous. Gigi, you are so lucky.
I spent yesterday at the hospital, as they were trying to track down a blood problem. They left enough blood in me to get home on. I’m on another prescription, but this time, the pills are a delicate cranberry colour. I’m wondering if I could make a quilt that displays all my pretty pill colours.
Glad to hear everyone is doing ok. This site is in my top three list of things that keep me going.
Have a great weekend, everyone.
You certainly have kept a sense of humor. Enough blood to get home on is pretty funny, well, in a through-clenched-teeth sort of way. I’m sorry things continue to be so difficult.
Oh, Duckie, you are really due for a break! Glad you made it home without further loss of blood, and your quilt idea is brilliant!
I like the idea of the pill-colored quilt. Mine would be pastels currently, not
very exciting, more for an infantโs cover, pale blue and pale gold. Hang in,
Duckie, rooting for you.
I go for the bloodwork in about ten days.
Will try to remember your comment about
enough to get home on. Great attitude.
Sometimes thatโs all we got to get through
some days, no? Have a hug.
BREAKING NEWS!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!! PLEASE READ!!!
Whew that breaking news was amazing!! How could this have happened…just like that? Out of the blue?? Wonders never cease! ๐๐
Gigi, Mia is so dear. And so are you and all the other animal lovers who go that extra mile for the furballs in our lives. ๐
For those of you following the Drama of Alice Shortcake’s Dad, he’s now eating real meals and walking with the aid of a walking frame. When I saw him this afternoon he was feeling a bit off-colour, but this was probably due to the blistering heat today. He’s currently waiting to see which rehab unit he’ll be sent to – both are in York but I’m hoping it will be the one just a short walk away.
Hoorayyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!
Alice you must be feeling so much better about your Dad. Walking and talking can’t be underated at this point in recovery.
And Duckie I hope things are better this week for you? Were you able to put away the voodoo dolls that resembled certain family members? ๐
๐
So terrific!
Very glad to hear your father is doing better. The heat is dreadful here as well, certainly enough to make anyone feel off-color. I hope your father continues on the mend.
Thanks, all! When he’s back home again I intend to celebrate with a visit to York’s new cat cafe.
This afternoon he was laughing at the foibles of some of the other patients and remarking on how many visitors there are in the evening – “it’s like a pub in here between six and eight!”
Late to the party today but glad to hear many people and their pets are doing better. Yippee to N. Fritz for being hired permanently and having a whole 70 days off. You probably need it to recover after dealing with students, and papers, and exams for so long.
And I can’t forget the star of the show, Miss Mia, absolutely gorgeous.
Just been busy running around with errands this morning, taking a short break, then off to do more later today. Looks like tomorrow will be window shopping and then a movie.
Stay cool everyone, I should ship you our unusual SoCal weather. It’s only upper 70s, a little humid and overcast.
Thunderstormin’ here in NJ.
Thanks, AJ! I’m definitely planning some fun for the summer!
First of all I am sending a big hug to Duckie.
Hooray for Mr Shortcake’s and Fred’s health improvement!
Congratulations to N.Fritz!
Mia is beautiful and it makes me very happy to see Gigi among us.
My cat, Marci has also recovered although we still don’t know why he did not eat for 3 weeks.
I guess the summer inferno took a 2days’ halt and he found his long lost appetite.
Last night after eating 2 dinners, he woke me up twice more to ask for food. I have never been so happy to get up in the middle of the night ๐ So it was 5 dinners altogether and 2 breakfasts in the morning. Yay!
Very happy Marci’s appetite has returned! Three weeks is a long time to go without enough food, and to watch a loved one go without.
Thank you, Ems! I hope the weather cooperates and Marci continues to eat well!
Great news about Marci! I’m sure those were three tense weeks of worry.
Such fantastic news that everybody is eating again! Alice, hope your dad comes home soon. Ems, hope Marci packs on a few pounds, as Fred has done.
Duckie and Phredsmom, your blood draws sound uncomfortable at best. Do keep some of the blood inside!
