House panthers rule on Black Cat Appreciation Day
If you’re looking for light reading, you’re out of luck, because today the Internet celebrates the black cat and the fortunate few who love them.

Last but not least, here are two sleeping beauties from reader Rachel B., who adds “My two black cats still recovering from Halloween work.”
Just yesterday I met a man who’d rescued two black labs years ago and we talked about the fact that black dogs are usually the last to be adopted. Apparently it’s the same for black cats. I’ll never, ever understand that. Some say it’s because they’re simply not as easy to see in a shelter run but apparently there’s also an element of superstition. Which is idiotic. ❤
No kidding! Like what the???
Do those same people judge humans by their color?? Sadly, the answer to that might be yes. ☹️
I didn’t know until recently that black dogs are equated with the Grim. Some of y’all may remember that term from the Harry Potter world; it’s actually a thing Rowling borrowed from real life. The Hound of the Baskervilles was also borrowed from the Grim.
oooeee! I always forget this day! Which is unforgivable considering I’m owned by two house panthers. These are gorgeous pics from everyone and I couldn’t agree more with Lucy’s Mom. I love black cats and hope I am always able to serve at least one in my home. ^..^
I love black animals! I used to have a Holland Lop, and later, a Mini-lop/Dutch mix that were black. Only bad thing about black animals is trimming the nails!! It is nearly impossible to see the quick!
Black kitties are so pretty.
I’ve always wanted a black cat, so when I saw my late lamented Daisy’s photo on the website of my local Cats Protection centre I knew she was the one for me. When I went to pick her up there was another black cat in the next pen, the very vocal and friendly George. I often wonder what happened to him – he was so endearing I doubt if he had much difficulty in finding a home.
Love those house panthers!
Gorgeous!
I appreciate my current house panther Scorpius (even if he’s difficult) and think of my long-gone beloved Gaufredus constantly, even after all these years without him. Once you go black, you never go back.
