“Brecht says several clues point to the former. When the rats find the researchers, for example, they execute what are known as “joy jumps” or freudensprung. ”
We need to start using the word freudensprung around here.

I heartily agree, freudensprung is going to be my word of the day and the ‘scritchendanse’ is simply wonderful.
The cat panoramas had me howling. I especially loved the white kitty who was all mouth with no face–seemed appropriate somehow!
Welcome home, TomTom! And congrats to the happily married threesome! That photo shoot is terrific.
Not sure how I feel about cloning pets. Would I have done it for Ursula? Probably not, because part of the relationship is about giving all the love you can *while* you can.
I too love freudensprung and will work it into my vocab now.

The new Lord of the Dance! I just love a goofy dog.
That bride and groom will always have a great story to tell their kids and grandkids. I think they handled it beautifully – but I have a feeling not all brides would have been so willing to share the attention.
I have very mixed feelings about cloning. Would the cloned pet have the same personality as the original? If not, what’s the point? And frankly, there are enough “unwanted” dogs and cats who should be adopted before we think about cloning. It’s not like we’re apt to run out of adoptable animals. Also, the price – really??? People have that kind of money just lying around?

That was my first thought.
I know you miss your kitty. Give another needy kitty a home. Just because it looks the same doesn’t mean the personality will be the same. The fact that he said it was similar is probably just a coincidence. (It’s essentially the same as having an identical twin. They’re not the same person despite having the same DNA; the same would be true of animals.)

Hear, hear! My feelings on this are not mixed at all.
I had a bad night last night, I should probably have skipped the creepy cat photos! But I do think Mike’s hover is brilliant. I’m glad Tom-Tom is home. I love that scientists are starting to accept that animals, including those clever ratties, have genuine feelings and intelligence.
And oh, that deer! What a lovely, special wedding gift!

When I said I had mixed feelings about cloning… what I should have said was that I am 100% opposed to it. Not really very “mixed” at all. 😃
And I would love to see a video of the ratties learning and practising their hiding and seeking. I think that would be so cool to see!
That would really be great to see. I went over to the rats’ side when i learned that they liked to be tickled and made high-pitched “laughing” sounds when being tickled.

I took my niece’s senior photos on our property last month, and we had a whole family of deer show up (not an unusual occurrence at my house). She was able to hand-feed one of them while I snapped photos. I told her she’ll probably be the only one in her class who had her senior photo shoot with a deer! 😀

Ok. I am not looking at other links or comments yet…
I have to recover My senses after witnessing The Skritcher Dance! Seriously, my brain froze from the hilarity and innocent participation of the dog.

I love the rat story! Having had a rat as a pet I know They can be amazing animals, and it does not surprise me that they like to play! I would love to see it in video!😀

Both words, and concepts, are wonderful.

That deer story actually happened near me in Michigan! He’s been hanging out at the beach and all kinds of stuff like that all summer!
