The Story of Pokey

Door-opening cat is perfect foster father

They say that having a good mentor can open doors. That’s definitely true for Pokey, a clever cat who’ll stop at nothing to greet, groom and teach the foster kittens taken in by his humans. Pokey has even learned how to open closed doors because he just can’t wait to meet the new kits on the block. (The Dodo via Cheryl S.)

Hehe, Quilty was the “real” story on the Bluff the Listener game on Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me this weekend.

Pokey is indeed perfect. And his hoomins are lovely people. I’m glad they’re all in the world.

It’s a cute story, but am I the only person driven mad by the meaningless use of the word “like” at every opportunity?

I guess people don’t speak that way in England. It’s very common here. People say like instead of uuhhhh…

That was glorious. I love Pokey and his people. He’s got them wrapped around his little paws, and everybody knows it, and everybody is cool with it.

It never fails to impress me how infinitely wonderful male cats are as nurturers. The female no doubt is more than willing to let the male take over after the effort of kitten birth and nursing. And the male cat is already there in longing for the chance to interact, way before the opportunity actually presents itself. Makes sense since they are the ultimate cat toys.
It’s enough to make you jealous.

I recently discovered that the legendary Grandpa Mason died in September. A career as a foster-parent and role model gave the ex-feral old cat a new lease of life, despite his terminal illness, and he spent his last hours surrounded by the kittens he loved.
