It’s another chilly Caturday in Cutetropolis, so come in out of the cold and chat for a while! Peyton, from sender-inner Lauren, seems to have the right idea:
Weβre getting just a little snow here in Boulder and I was hoping I could get my cat Peyton to come out to play. Nope. Nada. Niente. Apologies for the pic being so blown out; tricky shooting into all that whiteness.
![The lighting is great by the fireplace. Just a thought. cat won't go out in snow](https://i0.wp.com/cutetropolis.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/lauren-pic.jpg?resize=636%2C848&ssl=1)
I’m in full agreement with Peyton, why go into all that coldness when there is a perfectly good spot by the fireplace. Love his fluffy tail.
My foster kitty has finally discovered the joys of playing with a toy. I was hearing all this jumping, banging and was wondering what the heck is she getting into?? She was playing with a rubber mousie. She also enjoys drinking from my water glass (full head into said glass), drinking from the tap, and sitting in whatever lap is available. She now finally looks like a cat after gaining about a pound instead of a walking fur bag of bones.
At the house, we finally have our Christmas lights/decorations up, both inside and out so it’s looking festive here in SoCall (but thankfully no snow!). Time to do a little present shopping today along with a haircut. I may also hit the Goodwill shop, as I need some more clothes for work and then go to a tree lighting tonight.
Enjoy the weekend everyone!
Way to go foster mom AJ! Warm fuzzy story for a chilly day!
Goodwill is great for work clothes, or for clothes, period. I have found some real treasures there.
And itβs guilt-free shopping, too.
Morning! I’m actually up before 9:30!
Met my friend and her mom and my mom for dinner last night and then we did some bookstore shopping for her kids (and my brother, but I had to order most of what he asked for). My next quest is to find the tea she wanted but they didn’t have. I told her Santa would track it down (not sure if it’s something they can order but I’ll check when I go back; if not I think Target carries it, though in a smaller tin). Other than that I have the usual chores and whatnot to do this weekend.
Maybe Peyton needs one of these…
I think I’d be afraid to meet the person who thought of manufacturing a snow duck maker.
Update: I called one of the stores that is not super close or in any way on my normal routes to anywhere (except my friend’s house, sort of) but I am willing to drive to and they have my friend’s tea! And it’s an excuse to get out of the house so I’ll go do that later. (They’re also on sale but I don’t think that stacks with my employee discount. Which is better, anyway.)
Oh, and speaking of Caturday and Christmas gifts…
Yay!
I love Liz Climo’s work.
Allein, have you recovered from the cold?
Nope π
Started coughing a bit the other day. π π
Other than that just stuffy/runny nose. Which might be the main cause of coughing. Not too terrible.
How are you doing?
I’m OK, thanks. Pre-holiday period is always very busy, so grief hasn’t really hit me hard yet. Not sure how well Iam going to handle the 2 weeks’ winter holiday, but I will spam here on Cutetropolis, I guess.
We’ll be here!
I am sure it will be difficult Ems. Hugs to you.
Thank you, Allein and Dulcie!
Allein, I was completely unaware of Liz Climo so I thank you for posting this. I’ve checked her out online and her work is just amazing! π
She was on my list for calendars last year before I settled on we rate dogs.
No offense to Lauren, but I’m with Peyton on this whole “venturing out into the snow” madness. Stay inside. Stay warm. Relax. Eat some yummy stuff. π
I just got in from shoveling. Shamed into it by my 71 year old neighbor who did more than half the drive. I took him hot tea and schnaps and then dug out my car. I am feeling unmotivated (I don’t even wanna cook… and I have to grade tests for three classes and create two more tests for next week). possibly getting a cold.
The snow ducks are brilliant. I can imagine making them and putting them on people’s cars as a sweet surprise.
Happy Caturday, y’all!
The original video I saw was better but I couldn’t find it on youtube and facebook videos don’t always work right. While I was looking I saw another one that showed the ducks but also one that just makes regular round snowballs, and also a mold that makes a bunch of snowballs (I think it was 9) at once.Kind of like an ice cube tray.
Hot tea and schnapps? Oh my what an awesome neighbor you are N Fritz!
I should be your neighbour, I love shovelling. Schnapps? Not really π
Ha ha Ems… didn’t you get that mixed up with the schnapps and the shoveling?? ππ
Happy Caturday, all! Teddy Bear’s sutures were removed a few days ago, and he appears to be in great spirits. So great in fact that he did something he’s never done before. As I was giving my rabbit Ani some pets, Teddy Bear walked up to us and licked Ani on the head a few times. That’s the first sign that maybe they can grow to be friends.
I had to put the cone of shame back on him because the vet noticed that his wound, while fully closed, could use a little extra time to heal. Probably just for the weekend and then it can come off again.
Oh, licking Ani! That’s wonderful!
Yay! Sounds like the beginning of a new friendship. It would be great if they could hang out together eventually.
They can already hang out in the sense that they can sit near each other. But sometimes Ani will bully Teddy and I hope over time she’ll stop doing that.
Licking Ani, how cute π
Totally!!
What lovely news!
Glad to hear Teddy Bear is on the mend. Glad for him.
No snow in England but plenty of torrential rain. When I walked into York city centre last week to watch a live relay of the ballet ‘Coppelia’ from the Royal Opera House I had to keep dodging sheets of water thrown up by passing cars from huge puddles at the side of the road.
I don’t have much to do over the Christmas period so I’m hoping to binge-watch a few things, particularly ‘Chernobyl’ (perfect Christmas viewing!) and ‘Watchmen’.
Spent two days recently at a bed and breakfast this week. Flannel sheets do make a bed
warmer but it is harder to shift position when they act like Velcro. Wonderful hot breakfasts
and good comversation. And waking up to a beautiful snowfall. Nice.
I tend to find flannel sheets a little too warm (though they were nice the last year in my old apartment when they were barely giving us a legal level of heat and a couple times I woke up early in the morning to find the place was about 50 degrees because the boiler had gone out in the night). I like the t-shirt fabric sheets; they’re light enough for summer but they don’t get ice cold in the winter like percale (the ones I have are called Pure Beech).
Hi Phredsmom hope you are doing well!
Hi, Dulcie – no better, no worse. Still alive, so thatβs good.
How cute are these?!
https://kitchenfunwithmy3sons.com/bear-paw-cookies/
these would be perfect for a bake sale to raise money for an animal shelter! you could alter the chips (don’t they make pink chips in strawberry or mint?) and make chocolate as well as vanilla paws…
These kind of mints might work for different colors.
Could make chocolate cookies for brown bear paws, too.
Lovely toe bean colors Allein!
Snuggling cookies! What a concept!
I have the perfect sugar cookie recipe from my grandmother! I am totally going to make these!
Great find!
The random things that happen to scroll across your facebook feed…
Oh, and I almost forgot! Got my first Christmas present of the year. My supervisor was out of the office yesterday (she worked half a day from home then took the afternoon off) and toward the end of the day our director called me and asked me to come into his office with my other two coworkers. He was looking all serious and freaking us out (last time he did that was to tell us our supervisor’s grandmother had passed away), then pulled out gifts from under his desk. Mean. (He’s very nice; he’s just likes to mildly tease people sometimes.)
He told us to put them under the tree and open them on Christmas. Of course I opened it when I got home. It was a travel blanket that folds up into a pillow and when folded can be slipped over the handle of a rolling suitcase.
https://www.verabradley.com/us/product/Fleece-Travel-Blanket/15564
It goes nicely with my gray couch π π
Nice present!
Mine came from the outlet store so I’m guessing it’s not a current pattern (he included the gift receipt). I’m not a huge fan of Vera Bradley, generally, but I really like this one. A lot of her stuff is a little too much for my taste (but I have fond feelings toward her because I had two aunts, both now deceased, and one loved VB and the other hated it). It even kind of goes with the paisley pillows that came with my couch (in much more subdued colors).
Also the owl-print bag that I got from an old boss years ago, like 2007ish.
(Not the same bag but the same pattern. It’s blue and has cute owls. What’s not to love?)
Peyton, I’m with you on the staying inside today. No snow, just RAIN.
Mike, I’m thrilled to hear that Teddy Bear is improving.
Allein, I’m writing to Santa right now for a snow duck maker.
Peeps, I’m feeling a little awed right now. For those who aren’t religious, I hope you aren’t bothered by this.
As you know, our finances have been barrel bottom scraping bad. At the beginning of this week, our checking account was in the negatives, and we were scratching bits off our pathetic savings account. I was praying for help.
On Friday, when hubby brought up the mail after work, we found a letter from his previous employer’s investment company. As hubby no longer worked for the employer, the investor had liquidated his full investments amount and sent us a check. We are saved.
I don’t know how many of you were praying, meditating or sending out positive thoughts our way, but it worked. Again, I am so grateful for having this community. Thank you, and thank you, Mike, for starting it.
This coming week will be joyfully crazy. Baking, cleaning, some parties, one funeral (we lost a good neighbour this week), bill paying (hooray, we can afford it!) and a little personal shopping. Medical appointments and a fire equipment testing day.
I’m off to finish my tea and then do some running (limping) around. Mike, if I may make a suggestion? New Year’s Day, we have a lounge day, with snacks, and tell our resolutions.
Happy day!
Fantastic news! A merry Christmas indeed!
Sorry for your loss of your neighbor.
But yay for unexpected monies!
It was raining all day here, yesterday, too. (Well, except in the morning when I got to work not realizing I would need an umbrella by the time I left. Of course it was safe in the car. A coworker was walking out at the same time and let me share hers since our cars were in the same direction so at least I didn’t get too wet.) Still cloudy and wet but it’s not actually raining at the moment.
Like Dulcie, I’m a really intense hoper-wisher. I don’t feel I can take any credit for your change in fortune, but I’m very happy for you. Sorry about your neighbor, though. A good neighbor is a wonderful thing.
Ooh, I like the New year’s lounge idea!
I’m so happy for the financial improvement, Duckie.
So wonderful! What a relief! You’ve had money worries for a while and the unclenching must be a real pleasure.
That is crazy awesome Duckie!!
I’d like to say I helped – I do this whole amalgamation of things (including really intense hoping) that is my version of prayer so I hope it reached you!
LOL really intense hoping! Maybe I’ll try it – can’t hoit!
So happy for you, Duckie, what a relief!
Lily says, βwhat is this cold stuff of which you speak?β

EVERY color is flattering to Lily!
Lily, please ask Jan for me how someone becomes such a great photographer. Maybe she was born with it.
Lily says the steps are obvious:
(While I might disagree with 2 and 3, no one can question the logic of number 1!)
Hmm, my numbering disappeared… ?? [I fixed. — NTMTOM]
One of my facebook friends decided I needed to cry today, so here. (Also includes cute doggie, to keep on topic.)
note: one bad word in there
that commercial makes me cry every time! it takes all my will-power when I show it in class.
I’m sitting here in tears – I’ve never seen that commercial before. I figured he was going to meet up with a new lady friend but when that beautiful little girl walked out… π’
I know!
Great commercial! Lovely and sweet.
Wow lots of snow in the picture, nice. We don’t have any, just rain, rain and some more rain.
I’ve caught some cold, so I am a low energy monster right now.
My brother has come unexpectedly to see me, so finally an evening I won’t spend alone.
Yesterday was the office Christmas party, it was truly terrible. Thankfully the next one is at least a year away π I went there to be able to appreciate the lonely evenings and it worked. π
We have our “Christmas” party in February. π
Oh, Ems! After all you’ve been through, a rotten party AND a cold? Sending cyber-warmth and healing your way, of the intense hoping-wishing kind.
Thank you, Ricky and Bibi’s Mom!
So I got myself a present. A new Starbucks gift card. Just because it’s cute. I have gold status but my gold card doesn’t work anymore so I just get myself cards that I like and register them to my account and use those. I had a pretty flowery one for a few years until it snapped in half because I forgot it was in my pocket when I went to change my clothes. My current one is deer in a snowy evergreen woods. Now I have a doggie.

Also I was in the bookstore and I saw a weekly calendar/agenda thingy based on the twitter account Thoughts of a Dog, by the guy who founded We Rate Dogs. I don’t need that type of calendar but it was very tempting. It’s adorable.

“gooooob morning. today has infinite wondrous possibilities. iβm going back to sleep. but you should find out what they are”
“i have spent the whole day. watching the human make a gingerbread house. the final touch. was a little icing dog. staring out one of the windows. now itβs a gingerbread home”
“there are many humans in the household right now. and they all seem to have snacks. so iβm going to convince each and every one of them. that i have not eaten. in several weeks”
edit: ooh, I didn’t expect it to embed like that. neat π
My mom helped me and my brother make a gingerbread house years ago. It was on the dining room table which we had pushed up against the dining room wall and decorated for Christmas with garlands and ornaments and fake snow. When we took everything down after Christmas, we discovered that the dog, an Irish setter named Ginger, had licked a hole all the way through the back of the gingerbread house, against the wall where it wouldnt show. Very carefully and stealthy she was, didnβt move it a fraction of an inch so we never noticed!

Now I’m reading dog tweets. Guess that’s my night…
Are you on Twitter, Allein? My handle is @daseinist. Take a look at Dog Talk Sports Network (@DogTalkSports): https://twitter.com/DogTalkSports?s=09
Also, it always blows my mind that two movies about the sane topic get released at virtually the same time: Togo and the Great Alaskan Race. Compelling story!
No twitter, sorry. Just facebook. And instagram, but I don’t really use that.
Smarter than we think.
That is so precious Jan. What a devious doggo!
Bad dog, Ginger!
We have send to have a coffee cup with that cartoon on it! β€οΈ
‘k, I just learned they have a calendar. I already bought We Rate Dogs, but I guess I’ll just have to have two.
