Chapter Seven: A Cold Goodbye

“So you’ll be gone in the spring?” Bethany asked him weakly. As usual, Randolph’s stoic face yielded no hint of emotion, no sign of regret. “I wish there was something I could do,” she lamented. “If only there was a way to melt your cold heart.” Tenderly, she kissed him for what she knew would be the last time.

Reminds me of all those Harlequin Romances I devoured as a young teenager before I moved on to more literary reads. My mom used to call them bodice-rippers.
