Reader and frequent sender-inner Squiddy introduced a foster rabbit to her cat — and the experience would change them both. Here’s the story:
I’ve got a new foster from the humane society: a baby bunny named Quincy. I have been trying to keep the cats and the bun separated while Quincy adjusts to home life, but Bertie is having none of that. He quickly learned to climb the bars and even made himself at home in the bunny cage.
But did the story end there? Oh no, it did not. As Bertie and Quincy got to know each other, they sniffed…
Exchanged a playful whap…
And before either of them knew it, they had adopted each others’ ways. Quincy settled into the nearest box for a quick nap…
While Bertie developed a fondness for leafy greens.
Awwww! Such a sweet pair! 🐰🐈
Really! A lovely couple.
If they keep bonding, it’ll be hard on Bertie, when Quincy goes back to the Humane Society and/ or gets adopted. Precious bunneh has made a friend.
This story makes me deeply happy.
Honestly, it’s like I’m living in a Beatrix Potter story.
I’m jealous.
I never noticed before what an interested, wide-awake expression Bertie has.
I have decided (based on no DNA, just my own personal desire) that Bertie is a Norwegian Forest Cat. One of their characteristics is that they stay in kitten mode longer than other cats. You can tell in the second photo that Cheshire, who is a month younger than Bertie, is already starting to get the exasperated teenager look that all kitties eventually have. Bertie is still in the kitteny “The world is AMAZING” phase.
He honestly is the best cat I’ve ever had in terms of temperament: I’ve never heard a hiss or a growl or feared being bitten or scratched. He loves everyone and everything — sometimes too much, given how much bigger he is than the baby animals we foster. I still watch him closely with the bun — not for fear he will hurt it, but that he might play a little too exuberantly and freak the bunny out.
That bun is adorbs!! So glad they are friends.😊🐰🐱
