Welcome to the weekend! Today we have a strikingly spotted new cat to greet us in the open thread, courtesy of reader N. Fritz:
This is Chocolate, one of two oriental shorthairs that belong to a colleague and friend. Doesn’t she have the most beautiful markings?! She is not camera friendly, so this is a rare photo of her. I have met her sister, Sheila, and have decided that there is an oriental shorthair somewhere in my future!
Beautiful markings, delicately posed front paws and tail. And fennec fox ears! Sheila – what a great name for a cat! Love to see a picture of Sheila too.
Chocolate is a stunningly beautiful kitty!
Totally gorgeous and such unique coloring.
Gorgeous cat! Have a great day all!
Ooh, pretty! Love the tail curled around the post.
Not much going on this weekend. Going to my friend’s for birthday cake for her mom later. It’s sunny but windy here today. Hope everyone has a great weekend! Don’t party too hard!
Oh! That face! She is beautiful!!!! She looks so elegant. I think I could be convinced to have an oriental shorthair in my future too…
First day of Spring Break! Wheeee! I always resolve to do the boring things first, and hardly ever do. If I get my midterm grades done today – I’ll be a happy camper.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Chocolate is GORGEOUS! What an unusually beautiful kitty!
Last weekend was very sad — my dearest friend, who I’ve known since we met first week of college in 1971, called me Saturday unexpectedly — her husband had passed away! So even though we had just gotten home from a few days in New Orleans and had been home such a short time I hadn’t even unpacked my suitcase, we had to pack up again and head to Miami. It was a VERY sad occasion. I wasn’t all that surprised because he never took care of his health at ALL, but as a result I’m mad at him for letting himself die at age 70 and leave my friend alone — well, with her two great sons, but still, alone. I am very grateful that my husband is a very, very good patient for his doctor!
The dogs, however, were exceedingly happy we were away from home — our neighbor, who dogsits for us, spoils them ROTTEN. She went through 10 days of treats in 3.5 days, for example! We’re still having to try to persuade the dogs that just because Annette is a total sucker doesn’t mean we are…silly creatures!
Yoofi has acquired a new skill: opening the tops of jars and bottles. Not by just chewing them off, oh, no, she’s learned how to UNTWIST them. That dog is just a walking disaster area! 😀 But she is insanely entertaining, so I’m not complaining. I’m just getting very, very good at putting things away!
I’m so sorry for your loss. 🙁
And now I have learned that the secret to keeping things tidy is to get a dog who knows how to open stuff…hmmm, must think about this new information. (Yoofi doesn’t have opposable thumbs, does she?) Also, I just noticed that in my email, your name shows up as “whawhawhatsis.”
Happy weekend.
Chocolate, you are a most unusually coloured kitty. Very eye catching.
I’m rather congested today, so won’t be doing much. Snow scheduled overnight.
Duckie has learned that I leave the cage open when I’m refilling her food and water dishes, so now I don’t. Silly creature got stuck behind the bookshelf, the deep freeze and the bedroom door. I see I will have to do some rescheduling for her training.
Taxes done and sent in. Smaller refund expected this year, but every bit helps.
Going to spend the day doing nothing.
What an extraordinary, and beautiful, cat!
Laura, I’m sorry for your loss.
EVERYONE, please stay well!
I am having an exciting day—I’ve done laundry, picked up one pair of eyeglasses with the new prescription lenses in, dropped off the spare frames for same, ordered new contact lenses, walked Bibi a couple of times—and plan to spend the rest of the day decorating castles in the air and watching Season 3 of The Crown. Oh, yes, and enjoying my birthday dinner with friends tonight. Cheers! I may just party tonight if I will be confronted in the morning by a litter as cute as the one in Allein’s picture.
Happy Birthday! Sounds like a lovely day. Those of us in NYC don’t have to worry about contagion – it is impossible to avoid gazillion other people, residents and the literally 60 million people who visit each year. Don’t worry, be happy!
As you may recall, I AM in NYC. Other than washing my hands more often than usual (easy), and trying not to touch my face unnecessarily (not as easy), I am relying on the fact that I’ve had my flu shot and am in generally good health. I’m trying not to give in to my tendency to hypochondria, no mean feat in the face of relentless advisories from elected officials, and the usual scaremongering tactics of “news” media.
So far The Crown Season 3 is proving excellent!
I did recall, and that’s why I brought it up. I’m taking the same approach.
Happy Birthday! Lovely plans. Also congratulations on the new glasses, being able to find nice frames is quite an achievement. I’m still working on it.
Thanks, Ems! I found really gorgeous frames a few years ago and splurged. TBH, my prescription is so expensive the frames seem like nothing at this point …
Hey Mom of Ricky & Bibi! Happy Birthday! I hope you are having a wonderful meal as I write this now–but wait, time difference, maybe not. Enjoy when you do. 🙂
Isn’t Chocolate a stunner?! I am so excited to see her on the weekend thread! But I am also excited because Iditarod starts today and the dog I sponsor is unexpectedly running for musher Riley Dyche!! So please root for my Emmy!!
This is too cute.

That is terrific!
Chocolate is so cute, those big ears 🙂
Hi, everybody! Good to hear from you all. Sorry about losing friends and illnesses. Happy about spring break, new glasses, and other excitement.
I’m recovering from a cold that has hit the drippy stage, so after running the weekend errands this morning, I’ll be a hermit until I go to work on Monday. It’s a good weekend to take things easy: I’ve been spinning yarn all day and after a nap, will knit. Some of the yarn is for a work assignment, which is going to be really fun. WhenI spin with some of my special color techniques, I want to see what the yarn is doing; that means audiobooks instead of TV. It’s a great way to multitask.
My kitties send kisses and purrs to you all. They’d be jealous of beautiful Chocolate if they sae her—she’s a gorgeous girl!
Serious “Cow Kitty” markings.I had no idea you could get such a remarkable pattern.
I wonder what they’re trying to summon…

Oh that is really good!
