Cute, funny and sweet links today. Thank you Mike!! The little baby gorilla looks like he’s having so much funny, reminds me of a human toddler. And so many people say we can’t be related, I call baloney on that.
Lulu’s act just made my day. I needed that. Gloomy day here, I’m working from home, which is annoying, but at least I don’t have to go out in the rain…
Bebeh G’rilla reminds me of my cousins’ kids in the pool when they were little.
Me too! and I thought… what if we gave that little guy a ball pit?
I could only find chimps… close enough?
And Allein and Ricki&Bibi’s Mom, I hear you. I’ve been temped to write “sealed with water” on my envelopes. Yes, I still have to mail things.
Close enough. That’s great. I want to play with them.
I haven’t had to mail anything but the envelopes in my desk are the self-sealing kind. Most of my bills get paid online, anyway, and I don’t anticipate any one-off bills with a return envelope that I might have to seal in the near future, except maybe the dentist from the other day, but my visit was just a checkup/cleaning which should be covered.
It’s great to see them having fun.
Morning All! Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all and thankfully green beer will be cancelled this year. Silver lining in everything!
How much do I love that baby gorilla? TONS.
Have to save all the links for later. Stay safe, everybody.
Love the baby gorilla – exactly what a human toddler would do – but we’re not related, nope. 🙄 I love the stuffie brought back from sure death – that’s a pretty funny and nice thing for that guy to do. Dog playing dead… 🤣🤣🤣 Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all. Get out and enjoy the fresh air, if you’re able to. In any case, stay safe and stay well. ❤🙏
Ack, I forgot to comment on the dad! Such a cute story! I love the pups’ worried faces. (Did he make his “IV tube” from a phone charging cord? 🤣)
Speaking of worried, I got groceries on my way home from work last night, some boxed/canned stuff and some fresh produce. I’m kind of afraid to touch any of it now. Don’t know if I want reassurance that I’m not crazy or that really, it’s okay to eat the pears. (And really, if it’s contaminating anything, my whole kitchen is contaminated now.) I joked that this situation is giving me OCD but I’m not totally sure it’s a joke. (There are 14 confirmed cases in my county as of yesterday afternoon, which makes me wonder how many unknowns are walking around the grocery store.) (Also starting to worry what this is going to do to my company…but trying to keep that out of my mind because there’s nothing I can do about that.) I’m scared.
Allein, it makes total sense that you are scared. I have all the same thoughts as you do. I’m afraid to open my mail after I’ve already brought it into the house which makes no actual sense, now does it? Emotions are not rational—but we can use our rationality to make some choices about how we manifest and react to our emotions.
The only thing to do is Keep Calm and Carry On. Take all the recommended precautions. You can wash your raw food before eating it; wash anything with a rind before cutting it, wash cans and bottles before opening them, etc.
We should all remember that life has never come with guarantees; drawing breath has always meant taking a chance. You do have to eat; stopping eating will only weaken your immune system, and if you stop eating altogether, you’ll starve. Weigh a doubt against a certainty!
I’m preaching to myself, too, you know. 😉
I know. I have done the same thing with the mail. I told myself earlier this is a good opportunity to focus on actually eating better, since my eating habits aren’t the greatest and I know that doesn’t help me if I get sick (with this or anything else). (I don’t even want to think about the amount of bad produce I’ve tossed over the years. I am determined to not let the stuff I bought yesterday, or the chicken my mom got me, go to waste. Or languish in the freezer until it’s a freezer-burned block of ice, like that bag of broccoli in there…)
I think the fact that I’m working from home is making it hit me harder today. And we got an email from the CEO a little while ago about cost-cutting and possible temporary lay-offs if they’re forced to close all the stores because they can’t afford to pay everyone if they are (and lots of comments in the employee facebook group on both sides of the issue of whether they really can or not, or whether they should close and people who can’t afford to not work…); I don’t work in a store but I worry about how that works its way up to my level. I don’t think my job will be in danger, and we’ve been through a lot of upheaval at the top in the past few years that ultimately didn’t affect my job, but it just feels even more unstable than ever.
Trying to breathe. And I have tea. Thanks.
Deep breathes guys; one. day. at. a. time. Just focus on the right now.
I posted this on facebook a little while ago: “I just washed the bottle of syrup I bought yesterday for twenty seconds. Rational precaution or a tad OCD..? ☹️”
Then I washed my pear. With soap. But I did eat the pear. (I rinsed it really well.)
So maybe that’s progress.
Focusing on the positive: Sunny and warmish outside. Family and neighbours all healthy. Hubby still has work. Duckie heard a new sound in a song yesterday and turned her head upside down in perplexity. I’m going for a solo walk today. Plenty to eat. Plenty to read. Tax refund coming this week so our bills will keep up to date. And we have each other on this site.
turned her head upside down in perplexity
This phrase made me smile. 🙂
I think I will try turning my own head upside down from time to time, if only to give myself a fresh perspective!
They finally shut my work site down at the university. Basically all non-essential personnel should telecommute for at least two weeks. Luckily, I’m a state employee with a union so even it they try to not pay me, I have lots of protections.
I’m trying like Duckie to focus on the positive – as of today, hubby & me are healthy, are employed, we have a roof over our head, and plenty of food. Also, our friends & family are healthy (except for the usual winter colds, hope they don’t progress) and I have my group of internet friends here.
Stay safe & healthy everyone.
Apropos ferrets… Have I ever told y’all about “Ferret Girl” and the disintegration of my marriage with my starter husband?
Oh my goodness Fritz, LOL. Um, just how you have worded this, I think we get the picture. 😀 I was watching the final episode of ‘The Crown’ last night and Princess Margaret (major piece of work) calls her husband’s (Snowdon-another piece of work) mistress “The Thing.”
So… My starter husband and I worked for the same university. But our marriage was in trouble, partly because my husband would not be diagnosed with ADHD until years after our divorce, which resulted in his not being able to hold a steady job, and partly because only I had a driver’s license, meaning I was responsible for all errands that involved driving.
Anyway, it turned out that he was probably already having an affair with “Ferret Girl” a student worker who was assigned to him at the university. At the time she lived with her boyfriend. Both of them had ferrets as pets. In fact, they wanted to marry their ferrets in an official ferret ceremony with costumes including little ferret top hat and little ferret bridal veil.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the woman my starter husband decided he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. God love them, after we divorced, they have remained together till this day…
Wow.
Wait… ‘Ferret Girl’ likes things:
“that are higher maintenance pets than either cats or dogs, and require an owner who is willing to give a lot of time and attention. They need several hours of supervised exercise and play outside of their cage each day and can be quite mischievous and destructive.”
😀 !!!
You came out the winner on this one Fritz, no offence to ferrets naturally.
So starter husband was really a ferret in human form?
Actually, with the ADHD detail…I can see that… In most ferret videos I’ve seen they seem pretty hyperactive. Or else they were sleeping.
well, when you put it like that FKAWalden 😉. Actually, when they had a child together, I knew I had dodged the bullet. They named her Maisy Grace (as in “how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me”)
snort laugh I love this space.
Nothing to do with ferrets, but I usually order my groceries online from Tesco on Tuesday and have them delivered on Wednesday afternoon. This morning I put my order in…and discovered that the earliest available delivery date was 28th March! It looks as if the local shops will be getting more of my custom than usual.
Also, theatres are closing so I can forget about seeing quite a few things I was really looking forward to. Realistically I can’t see them re-opening before June, which will be devastating to the arts and tourism scene in Britain.
Re arts and tourism: Welcome to the present reality in NYC. Whee! Mind you, if you work in the arts, you’re already used to being unemployed. We’re probably better off in that one regard than most.
I’m resigning myself to having to go shopping IRL soon. I’m used to ordering online, but there are already substantial delays for delivery. Fun times.
Gaaah! I tried to order from Fresh Direct this morning – no open delivery slots for the whole next week! If I understood correctly (pardon me everyone else this may be a purely NYC thing), if you have a delivery pass you can reserve a delivery slot that will be yours every week. The site seemed to show the slots were all reserved! Shopping in the neighborhood is VERY catch as catch can.
Yeah, we’re going to have to adjust to real-life shopping. I’m old enough to remember before Fresh Direct could even have been possible. Unfortunately, a lot of mom-n-pop groceries have been killed off since then (and I miss them sorely), but needs must when the devil drives.
It is almost the same as my story with my ex-husband 🙂 Awesome 🙂
