Hey peeps, a reader in the UK just shared this rare encounter with a cute creature wearing a luxurious mink coat! Here’s Emily with the story:
I met this beauty on a recent walk. What’s even more fascinating is that minks are not native to the UK. Here, we are allowed out to exercise locally once a day, and I’ve noticed that the birds are getting bolder, but I never expected this. He was as fascinated with me as I was of him. It was definitely love at first sight – on my part, anyway!
Seeing a mink, stoat, weasel or an otter, actually any wildlife, while out walking would certainly make my day. Itβs been interesting reading and seeing pics of animals roaming around more freely. I imagine when people start getting out more, weβll see them less.
The animals must think weβre extinct, suddenly disappearing like that π
The only ones that should be wearing a mink coat…

Could he be an escapee from a mink farm?
Wonder if this little guy would mind a duck for a temporary room mate. I need a break from my family.
Careful Duckie! I saw one of these chase down a rabbit for dinner. The rabbit didn’t have a chance so I imagine a duckie wouldn’t either.
Beautiful and fascinating! Reminds me of Mike’s post just as lockdowns were starting, where the deer thanks all the hoomins for going away.
There are deer living within a mile of my house. I’d love to see them invade the city centre!
If a mole, a badger, and a toad show up, hide your car keys.
Poop-poop! πΈ
That sounds familiar, wasn’t that the plot to some children’s story?
I think you forgot “Ratty”? Or am I in the wrong book?!
Wind in the Willows. And yes, Dulcie is correct, there’s also a rat, although Wikipedia says the character named Rat was actually a European water vole. Toad is apparently obsessed with motorcars, which were a recent invention in 1908 when the book was written. There’s been a long list of film adaptations and a TV series, and I’ve managed to miss all of them. I have no idea why I remembered this.
How sure are we that’s a mink? Maybe it IS, but I can’t tell that it’s not some other member of the weasel family. Discover Wildlife says “In the UK, there are seven mustelid species found in the wild, including stoat, weasel, badger, pine marten, American mink, polecat and otter.” Have so many mink escaped that they are now a self-sustaining feral species? Anyway, maybe mink but maybe not.
