To a cat, the circles must look like ready-made kitty beds.
I’ve noticed that if you set a piece of paper in the middle of the floor, a cat will sit on it. Ditto for a circle on the ground. I think it tickles the same part of their brain as boxes. I’ve actually used it to find indoor cats that went missing for a while such that we weren’t sure if they’d gotten out.
Truly they are mysterious creatures.
