“Dylan Winter and the Starling Murmurations” may sound like the title of an obscure young adult novel, but it’s in fact a fascinating look into the behavior of starlings, vast flocks of birds that blacken the night sky with shifting shapes and patterns, drawing astonished onlookers to gaze in wonder. “Gaze in wonder “ is exactly it.
Absolutely Marvelous!!!! Thanks Murray C for sending this in and Mike for posting it. The swirling movement of the birds almost remind me of the old liquid etch a sketches.
This murmuration video is sure to give you chills!
WOW WOW WOW If I had been there I would have fainted dead away. Human artists should just give up.
Thank you, thank you, Murray C. and NTMTOM. Extraordinary!
I have watched them flock in the fall and wonder if they ever collide with each other.
Made me cry. Both videos, crying. How absolutely amazingly beautiful.
Starlings are hilarious and marvelous birds. There’s a video on The Dodo about a lady who found a baby starling and raised it herself. The little bird imitates her laugh and still hangs around her house even though it is free to fly wherever it pleases.
It’s like a ballet with a hundred thousand dancers. I can only imagine that whatever the proximate cause of this behavior, the ultimate cause is sheer joy.
