Cutetropolis reader Tracy R. shares a scare that almost spoiled her Thanksgiving. It seems her cat Hamster is a bit of an escape artist. Here’s the tale:
My husband was walking Hamster on his leash and … something happened (there are conflicting accounts), and Hamster escaped. We got him back (by cleverly pretending to be holding out treats), but the whole thing was terrifying. This is Hamster getting a stern talking-to and being punished for scaring us so much.
The Hamster does not appear to be chastened …
Ok, at first glance I skimmed quickly and then thought, “huh??? Wait a minu-… a HAMSTER on a leash??? Gotta see that!”
🤣🤣
Hamster Leash: $14.99
Seeing video of a hamster on a leash: Priceless
That is incredibly cute! I love the pink bow on the tiny harness.
I know the Cuterepolitans would come through!!
Y’know, I totally expected to find a video of a hamster on a leash of some sort. What I did not expect is that a leash for hamsters is something you can buy from the pet supply store. (Though I probably should have.)
Watching the snow fall across Hamster lying by the fire…
(BTW, are you aware that there appears to be a tiger in your living room?)
I too noticed the tiger.
Glad Hamster is home safe and sound, though it does not look as though he’s learned his lesson.
I’m so glad Mike told us up front this story had a happy ending! Even so, I felt a momentary lurch in the pit of my stomach. Welcome home, Hamster! Don’t scare your humans like that again!
Tracy R. says “there are conflicting accounts” about what happens, makes me wonder which account she believed, her husband’s or Hamster’s.
My bet is that she believed Hamster, upon deep reflection.
Look at those poofy, inviting curtains, just asking for a shredding. That lovely bookcase with so many books just asking for a whapping, too.
I suspect that Hamster was even more terrified than his people although I doubt that he’d admit it.
Whew, love happy endings and glad that the scare was only momentary. Had my cat jump out a unscreened window once when someone was vacuuming and then he couldn’t jump back in. He wasn’t noticed missing until I came home from work and by then it had already been several hours. Talk about a long evening til Charlie was found. He had always been a bit of an escape artist before this episode but after that he had no interest in going outside. Hopefully Hamster learns the same lesson – inside is great!
Hamster, please shake paws with the other escape artist, my Marci.
He had managed to escape right before I had to take him back for the last treatment at the pet hospital. Thankfully he turned up at the very last minute with a mouse – that’s when I knew that the little rascal recovered after 2 weeks of nightmare.
We spent every evening at the pet hospital watching the infusion dripping, as he had got some infection. In the past two weeks I couldn’t sleep more than 2-3 hours/night, so I am really looking forward to Sunday to make up for it.
Oh Ems! What an ordeal! Yes please do pamper yourself with some extra sleep! 💕
Oh, golly! You have certainly earned a long, lazy Sunday. So glad Marci has returned and turned the corner back to health.
Ems, hugs to you and Marci. And naps. And cuddles.
Thanks and hugs to all of you!
Oh boy. Treats. They work every time. Inside the house, the Greenies are a siren call and everyone comes running. They don’t always work outside though. That’s when having Trader Joe’s peanut butter treats for the dog next door come in handy. As soon as I’m giving someone else a treat, then they come running out of jealousy. Silly kitties.
So glad Hamster is home safe and sound!
When we got Lahara I taught her the word “treat” just to have a sure-fire way to get her to come when called. Every time I said the word, she got one, even if I said it accidentally (’cause she always picked up on it, of course).
Years ago we were dog-sitting my stepson’s Chow chow. I went into the house after taking him for a walk and about 3 seconds later realized I’d left the gate open. I actually had the presence of mind to grab the box of dog treats as I raced out of the house and found the little stinker was already halfway down the block. Thank goodness he was food motivated. I would have felt awful if I’d lost him.
They make fish leashes…
