      I was on a Zoom call with a whole slew of folkie compatriots and we took turns singing many kinds of song – people from England, Canada, all over the US. It was really pretty spectacular to think it was possible. The organizer set it up so that we could celebrate the New Year over many time zones.

    Happy New Year!
    Did you hear the story about the time travelling storm last night? Apparently the eye of the storm was by the international date line, and the winds kept going back and forth between 2020 and 2021.
    Up late last night keeping a scared budgie company. She does NOT like firecrackers.

      Someone set off fireworks – not just those little ones that crackle and spray sparks but probably aren’t particularly dangerous, but actual shoot-up-in-the-air-and-explode fireworks – in my parking lot, less than a ten yards from the building, mere feet away from what I hope was their own damn car (though not far from other cars). Morons.

      (And as I learned back in July, there is no rule against this in the community bylaws.)

    We also had a Zoom call last night, we have been celebrating New Year Eve with the same group of friends for over 30 years. It was strange to be doing it over the internet but at least we could see each other and not abandon the tradition completely.
