Staying in Australia today, let’s visit the Australian Reptile Park, where a platypus got a check-up from the vet. Does he have to pay up front or do they put it on his bill? (via Andrew Y.)

Ah yes the platypus, the most indecisive animal on the planet. Never could figure out what it wanted to be.
DUCKPUPPY! Perfection! 😍😍😍
That’s what it should be called from now on. I didn’t realize they could be cute, even though odd looking.
Have you never seen a baby platypus?!
(Not sure at what age they lose the hats…)
snerk!
Why does this make me think of Leonard Cohen?🤔
Always said, platypus always made me realize God has a sense of humor☺️
Never realized how unusual platypus eyes are!
Using up all the leftover bits from other animals.
I gasped when I saw how small it was.
That bill looks an afterthought, like someone ran out of parts and used something from the Mr. Potato Head playset. And are platypuses (playpusi??) usually that chill? He seemed not to mind being handled.
“Platypuses”
Or platypoda, maybe?
“Put it on my bill”…always cracks me up! I think it was one of the first jokes I actually internalized as a kid. Which led me to seek out jokes like it as I thought they were so clever (and in the case of animals, cute)!
Oh dear I guess I should have said “quacks” me up. 😁
Did I hear /read somewhere that they’re poisonous? The techs sure aren’t handling it as if it were. And if they are, from whence does the poison spring????? I sure hope they’re not.
They’re venomous.
“The platypus is one of the few living mammals to produce venom. The venom is made in venom glands that are connected to hollow spurs on their hind legs. Venom is primarily made during mating season. While the venom’s effects are described as excruciatingly painful, it is not lethal to humans.”
Stephen Maturin gets stung by one in the Patrick O’Brien books.
Also, only males have the venom spurs so that platypus may have been female since they didn’t seem to be avoiding touching the hind legs.
I’m late to the party here, but I’d just like to remind everybody that baby platypuses are called “puggles.” You’re welcome.
Ooh, just like baby echidnas!
I wanted that video to go on forever.
Anybody else notice how cat-like the duckpuppy was? Squinching its eyes and kneading its webbed front feet in happiness. I really really want one (of course).
I wanted to be whoever was petting that platypus as I was watching.
