So where are we going, to the dog park? You look like you really could use a trip to the dog park. Yes, I know, it says something here about “airport,” but really when was the last time you just went frolicking with your buddies?
I didn’t want to go to that conference anyway, Sharon H.
I’ll go to the dog park…
I never took an Uber in my life and probably never will. You see I have a real problem about trusting people so I just couldn’t get in a car with a stranger.
On the other hand, I wouldn’t hesitate to get in this doggo’s car and let him take me wherever he wanted.
You should be suspicious. This driver doesn’t know which side of the vehicle has the steering wheel. Then again, Mike didn’t say this wasn’t Britain…😁.
Many years ago, I was in New Zealand for a job interview. If they’d offered the job, I would have taken it. But I would never have felt comfortable driving there! Driving on the left is just not . . . right.
Hee hee too true DebG!
I’ve lived in NYC all my life so hearing taking a taxi described as getting into a car with a stranger astonished me.
Really? Actual taxi drivers have that as their full time job. They’re not making great money, but it’s definitely more than Uber is claiming that their drivers make.
While the taxi industry and the medallion business certainly has its problems, experiential data has shown us that the Uber/Lyft system is a better replacement. Gig workers working multiple jobs are tired and frazzled. That’s not a recipe for safety. If I need a ride, that’s why I still take taxis.
Most realize that working a side gig is a losing them money, and quit soon after.
The only reason the business model is “competitive” on price is because it’s offloaded all its large costs onto the drivers. Like any pyramid scheme, you run out of suckers eventually, hence the reason Uber is heavily investing in self-driving car technology.
I won’t use Uber because I despise its founder and the way the workers are mistreated; also, I find it heartbreaking how many medallioned taxi drivers have lost their livings through this so-called “breakthrough.”
But I live in NYC. Right now I won’t go anywhere I can’t get to on shank’s mare, but that’s only because of the pandemic. When we’re all vaccinated, I plan to go back to using the subway, and taxis on the rare occasions that I need to.
Personally I think doggo looks unsafe to drive. Too much partying?
For all the NYers, who remembers the gypsy cabs that were hanging around all the subways usually in Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx and some parts of Manhattan? I had no problem taking cabs, or shuttles, or town cars (if I was lucky enough to have the company pay for it) but getting into those gypsy cabs scared the bejebubs out of me. I’d rather walk a mile than take them.
As would I. But I lived in Manhattan. For those in the outer boroughs, they were often a lifeline—albeit a chancy one. We now have medallion cabs that are required to serve the other boroughs. I admit I don’t know how well the system was working before COVID-19 hit.
Yep! I’ve lived in Queens for many, many years and those gypsy cabs were frequently the only choice I had especially if the subway wasn’t running. They’d also gouge you since it wasn’t metered. I was thrilled when they were replaced with Uber/Lyft (not to mention that back then yellow cabs would frequently refuse to take you from Manhattan to any outer borough, even though it was against the law, which was a big problem if you were out late and didn’t feel safe riding the subway…).
I lived in Queens for the first 20 odd years of my life – I forgot about those unpleasant discussions with cab drivers about going to Queens from Manhattan. I used to refuse to get out of the cab. Those were unpleasant rides!
Talk about pick-up lines! And yes, he could drive me anywhere – dog park, airport, I don’t care.
About a year ago when we still were leasing our Tesla X, hubby pulled up to pick up at the mall and it was the same area where Ubers picked up. There was a a lady waiting, she looked at the car and goes “Ooh, are you my Uber?” Had to disappoint her and tell her Nope. I mean, who would seriously use their Tesla for an Uber job?? You wouldn’t get paid enough to justify it unless you could register under Uber Luxury.
