Welcome to the weekend, citizens of Cuteropolis! In these uncertain times, it’s important to create spaces that are safe and supervised. That’s why the chat room is kept under hidden cat surveillance, thanks to reader Brouhaha:
This is my kitty, Sunny, in an Office Depot paper box.
Cue Rockwell…
๐ถI always feel like somebody’s watching me
And I have no privacy (ooh ooh)๐ถ
The Bernie memes have gone cute…
(lol, as I was copying the link. a video of Bernie on Seth Meyers came up on my youtube playlist)
LOL ๐
Allein, you always come through for us!
Just saw this; not cute but it’s pretty funny.
(And in case anyone was wondering, Seth asked him what was in the envelope and he said “it’s classified. ๐”)
(According to Dana Bash on Jimmy Kimmel, the envelope was his inauguration tickets.)
Bernie stole the show. The entire show. I love him.
It couldn’t have been scripted better. We just needed this so much right now!!
One of the comments on that video said something about everyone else came dressed to the nines and Bernie came dressed like Vermont.
I needed it this morning! Thanks, Allein, for posting the memes video. Now I can start planning my Halloween costume. There are already 9 patterns up on Ravelry for bernie mittens, including baby-sized ones.
Of course! How long before someone starts selling them on Etsy?
I’m sure they’re already for sale.
Also found an adorable crocheted Bernie doll, complete with the mittens.
He’s gonna be a bobblehead..

And Sunny the surveillance kitty appears to be taking the job seriously. Such a scrutinizing expression. ๐ธ
Here’s a funny story…I ordered some stuff from Urban Outfitters on December 26th, and a week later it still said ‘not yet shipped’…on January 3 (a Sunday) I heard a knock on my door and when I opened it there was a box outside, and my neighbor, who was getting into her car by then, said that it had been there since the day before (obviously I did not go out). It was my full order, so I checked the status again and it still said ‘not yet shipped’…for the next week, at least (I stopped checking after that). Then just this past Sunday (the 17th, two weeks after I got it), I got a shipping notificationย email, and it was delivered again on Tuesday. (And I checked my credit card statement and yes, they only charged me once.) So now I have two laundry bags, two bottles of Dr. Bronner’s lavender hand sanitizer, and four alpaca mugs (the description says llama, but I think they’re alpacas), which were gifts for two of my friends, and which I thought about getting one for myself as well but decided against (we went to an alpaca farm a few years ago and now they’re a thing). (And no, I’m not going out of my way to send it back because of their mistake. Working in a distribution center myself, I don’t understand how they managed to pick, pack, and ship it without it being recorded in their system at any point. But hey, I’m not gonna complain.)
Now back to my random cute absurdity:
This poodle-mix trend is getting out of hand…
FTR, here’s the “llama” mug, but my belief that they’re alpacas is backed up by one of the reviews, titled “NOT A LLAMA,” which said “This mug is clearly an alpaca (look it up)… NOT a Llama. Short ears, blunt face. CMON. That said, 10/10 alpaca mug.” and included a picture for reference.
Heh. The shoulder and back wool is the best for spinning. I disapprove even while I laugh heartily.
What a shot Brouhaha. Sunny looks perfectly stern. No hanky-panky at Cutetropolis today peeps!
And yay for the Bernie meme. I agree – we so needed that! I wanted to ask if anyone else is obsessed with it as I am, but I see that’s already been covered. I’m so glad there are so many clever people out there and they have time to make the rest of us happy.
Have a wonderful day everyone
Oh, Allein, what would we do without you.
I have had a ghastly 2 weeks but all seems to be well at this point. Fergus, our bunny, was ailing – he had stasis (a gas bubble in the gut that prevents food from moving through properly, can be fatal if not immediately addressed). I started him on Critical Care asap (I recommend all bunny folk have it in their arsenal) but took him to the vet to be sure he didn’t have an actual blockage (he’d been eating some fabric) He got a clean bill of health as far as his gut having a blockage and his blood work came back really well. But he continued to refuse food, so I have been syringe feeding him, staying up all night at one point to feed every two hours. I have been giving him a bolus every day to keep him hydrated. He would start to do well, but each time he went to the vet was like taking three steps back. The last thing was to have his molars filed – he had some rough spots and they can abrade the tongue affecting ability to chew. It took him two days to get back to anything resembling normal but he’s now starting to eat on his own and motility seems to be restored. Whew. I’ve been on an emotional roller coaster and really depleted! Not yet totally out of the woods, but things look good.
I’ve been thinking about Ems and Marci – haven’t looked at all the posts yet and will do post haste.
And I failed to mention how adorable is the cat perfectly placed and peering out from the box!
And the Bernie Memes – I’ve seen quite a few but none of these./ There must be thousands at this point. I love it.
Glad to hear Fergus is doing better.
Wow, Murray, you and Fergus have been through a lot. I recall using some of the Critical Care and giving water and food through a syringe. I really hope Fergus gets back to being healthy. And you need some physical and emotional rest. Give him a snuggle from me.
I’m sorry you’ve been through the mill; you must be exhausted with the worry. I’m so very glad to hear that Fergus is on the mend.
So glad your Fergus is doing better! I don’t know much about bunnies never having had one myself but whatever the species I know how dear our fur babies are to us.
Fergus has been in my thoughts. I hope he’s turned the corner. And thanks for the update. So sorry for all your pain and stress.
I’m so happy for the good news about Fergus!
Yes, the emotional roller coaster totally makes us exhausted.
I appreciate that you have thought about us. Marci has also shown signs of improvement.
He is quite OK for the time being.
Yay Ems. Let’s hope it stays that way.
And Murray C…we here at Cute know exactly what you are going through. Take care.
Oh, that’s lovely to hear, Ems! Happy for you!
YES!!!! Very good news indeed.
I have to relate a humorous aspect of my time dealing with Fergus and his gassy tummy. Picture me letting him out to run around to help alleviate his belly pain and me running around prodding him to keep moving, all at 3am. One does feel a might mad especially should anyone catch sight of one racing around urging a bunny to action with a dust mop.
David Sedaris has a great story about drowning a mouse in a bucket around 3 am, when a van full of tourists shows up at his mouse asking for directions. I’m cracking up just thinking about it.
As Marci has kidney deficiency, he needs a lot of fresh water. He often leads me to the sink and asks me to let the water flow in a thin line so he can drink it. What I noticed this morning was that he was trying to use the tap with his paw, but manual dexterity isn’t running in my family so he couldn’t make it work… yet. He was so cute trying to figure it out ๐
That I would like to have seen. Poor Fergus, probably wondering why you were chasing him at that hour.
You and Marci have also been in my thoughts. It’s great to hear some good news. We’re keeping all our paws crossed for him.
Glad Marci is doing better and continues on the path to recovery.
adding my best wishes for Fergus in his recovery.
Oh, hello.
It’s a two-fer!!!
Nothing new here except that after the latest grocery run on Tuesday my husband as informed me that I am not allowed to buy any frozen food because there is no room left in the freezer, in my defence there has been a lot of good deals lately.
This article in the Gardian this morning really blew my mind, as the doctor said there is no guaranty that it’s going to work 100% but if it does this is the dawn of a whole new world for people who lost limbs.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jan/23/icelandic-man-receives-worlds-first-double-arm-and-shoulder-transplant
OMG would that EVER be amazing!! ๐คฏ๐
Happy Caturday, everybody! It feels like a new world!! With a very serious guard-kitty–Sunny, you’re doing a great job.
I’ve been discombobulated all week because my routines got thrown off. Couldn’t watch the inauguration live, so I’ve been enjoying all the wonderful clips. I’m officially in love with Jill Biden and Amanda Gorman. Hadn’t seen the Bernie memes before, so Allein’s video was a lovely treat.
Now I’m trying to get back to a place where I’m not an outrage/rage junkie. It will take a while. Having competent government with no ethics problems feels very weird but also very welcome.
Scorpius is mad at me because I had to rearrange my office, in his basement. The NERVE. Hopefully he’ll forgive me by Monday.
What I learnt from this Marci ordeal was how much I need to follow my own routines. Once it gets disrupted, I’m not a happy camper any more.
(And that 90% of vets are greedy bastards where money is a lot more important than our pets’ health and well-being – I need to find a new vet for Marci)
So sorry about your vet experience. I am hoping it is not 90% of vets but yeah, could very well be accurate. I have had excellent compassion and care from our vet and noticed the same for the rest of the vets in that group. But the clinic itself did seem to be run with the harsh realities typical in the business world.
I have been the customer of this pet clinic since 2002 with various cats of mine and my late mother’s.
There have always been signs of their greed, for example they were trying to convince me that the only good food for my perfectly healthy previous cat is from their shop and nowhere else. Oh well.
In 2011 they were trying to leech a lot of money from me by trying to keep my incurably ill cat alive even when it was blatantly obvious that there was no way up, refusing my request for euthanasia.
Then they were relatively OK for the next 10 years. And now Marci’s diagnosis basically depends on how they can get more money from me.
So many local people have been trying to open my eyes to what the pet clinic does, but I wanted to trust them for Marci’ sake. After more than a week’s treatment his blood results were even worse than at the start. So they told me it was basically my fault as I wasn’t able to do the food transition in 2-3 days. Then they tried to blackmail me into a new set of treatments by implying Marci would be dead in 2-3 days without it. This was 5 days ago. Well I cannot see into Marci’s body, but for now he is eating well, has energy, not quite dead yet. But the pet clinic lost my respect.
I’m so sorry. Trying to find a new vet in these circs is less than ideal.
Repeating something Ricky&Bibi’sMom said a few weeks ago: you know what’s best for your pet.
Trust your gut.
I’m so sorry you have untrustworthy vets to deal with at this time. It’s unspeakable that they would blame you.
Drat! I had a great comment that I thought posted first thing this morning but guess not. Let me try to remember what I wrote.
Cats make great supervisors and surveyors, this one can come be my supervisor anytime.
Not much going on at chez moi. Just the usual, a few errands, organizing some boxes and maybe hitting the mall. It’s a rainy day here in SoCal so if I go to the mall, it will be with boots and umbrella since it’s outdoors. But in another way it’s great it’s outside so I can distance from everyone else and not worry about breathing in the canned air.
Love hearing about everyone else’s days and glad the animals are getting better.
My weekend got off to a fabulous start yesterday evening when I bent down to pick up a needle from my bedroom carpet and threw my back out. After a while I managed to semi-straighten up and hobble across the floor, but not before treading heavily on my glasses (yes, a lot of stuff ends up on the floor in my bedroom) and breaking them. Then came the ordeal of lurching downstairs sideways and finding some Superglue to make the glasses wearable until I can collect my new pair, which I ordered last week. This morning I could hardly bend down far enough to help my Dad put his socks and slippers on, and when I stood up it had to be in increments, not unlike one of the folding tools in a Swiss Army knife. I managed to make it to the fish and chip shop tonight but I think it will be a few weeks until I’m back to my old athletic self.
Re the plethora of Bernie memes, has anyone seen the parody of the Pence v. fly incident with a tiny Bernie on the ex-VP’s head?!
So sorry about your back and glasses, at least you had already ordered a new pair so you will have them soon, so that’s good.
You mean this Bernie/Pence meme?
How miserable! You seem to feel it will heal itself?
Alice. There’s a problem with your story. Aren’t you supposed to break your glasses when there’s no replacement available? Murphy has suspended his laws just for you!! ๐
That’s EXACTLY what I thought!
And yes, I think the problem will resolve itself. It isn’t the first time I’ve done this – many years ago, when I worked in a factory, I leaned over the edge of a huge barrel to scoop out some paint in a bucket and felt/heard an ominous “pop” in my back. It took three people to manoeuvre me into a chair, carry me to the door and send me home in the manager’s car…
“ominous pop” yikes! ๐ฒ
As they (well, somebody!) say here in the states, “Well, don’t that just beat all.” I hope your back clears up soon – just don’t stop moving, do some mild stretching – sounds like you probably know all that anyway. Isn’t it always something like leaning over to unplug something, or pick up a piece heaven knows what. Take care.
Alice, so sorry about your back. Wish I could do something to help, but even virtual hugs might be too painful!
I love how you haven’t lost your sense of humour even among these difficulties. I hope you get better soon and the new glasses will be ready within days.
Whoo-oo.
