Welcome to the weekend! Today will be a day for conversation and convalescence, as reader Muppet2171 is recovering from an unfortunate mishap with the help of a feline friend.
So, I fell down the stairs and broke my foot. Teller is making sure I stay off of it by guarding the crutches. sigh
Oh that face! 😂 Who says cats don’t have expressions?!
Muppet – sending you quick healing vibes for a quick recovery! ❤️
Was it a really bad break? Lots of tiny bones in the foot! At least it wasn’t your femur! Be glad about that! Here’s to a quick recovery🥂
Nooooo! Less than an hour ago I narrowly avoided injury when the bottom section of my flimsy loft ladder snapped off whilst I was manoeuvring a heavy suitcase into the attic. I was precipitated to the floor at alarming speed but the suitcase fortunately missed my head and bounced off the bed. Another job for the handyman…
😱
Ouch! That sounds like it really hurt – and hurts. I hope you have a swift recovery. Teller seems very put out – strongly disapproving of those crutches.
Get well soon
Ouch, but at least you’ll have some companionship while you recover. Hope Teller isn’t too demanding of a companion.
We’re all out of sorts here as one of smoke detectors started chirping at around 4 am and the reset button hasn’t worked. I’m about to perpetrate some criminal damage to said detector with my trusty hammer.
I’ve done that before—twice! I think it won’t reset cos the batteries are out. I wacked it off a high ceiling with a broom! Peace reigned! Good luck🤞🏼
We put new batteries in about 6 months ago and if it’s not one then another one is beeping. I just think the whole detector needs replacing so I’ll be making a complaint to the landlord later.
At first I thought that you broke your foot twice and it wouldn’t reset because your batteries were dead. 😜 Got it now. Good thing I am not reading insurance documents or anything like that today!
This post was in reply to 6Rabbits!
That would have been baaaaaaad!
I guess you were lucky to only break your foot, hope it doesn’t hurt too much and you get all better soon.
And don’t worry, Teller will eventually let you use those crutches.
When it’s time for his dinner that is. 😆
Thanks all for the well wishes! It’s not a bad break. Just a hairline fracture. I got soooo lucky there. Teller has been by my side most of the time…starting with hissing at me as I landed on my hands and knees while swearing and yelling – I actually think he’s one of my grandparents reincarnated because he hisses at me whenever I swear – and headbutting me for pets rather a lot.
Both Penny and Teller have been really good about avoiding the stairs when I’m on them. And if I ever want Teller to move, I just have to say the 2 most feared words in the English language: ‘Mommy kisses!’ Just the threat of possible kissing makes him run. 😆
Meanwhile, I’ve got the crutches. I’ve got a walking shoe/boot thingy. I’ve got a work-from-home job and a giant mug for caffeine that doesn’t require multiple kitchen trips to refill. I’ll live. 🙂
Oh no Muppet! Bummer! But yes, as you say could have been worse. Teller has a rather judgemental look – in spite of the positive result in having more lap time!
Don’t forget that while you have a giant mug of coffee to avoid making extra trips, you may find you are making extra trips elsewhere. 😸😁
I hope that kitty helps you through your couch time and doesn’t get underneath your feet while managing those crutches.
Oh, no! Glad you’re doing okay and Teller is making sure you rest.
My parents got their covid shots on Thursday. Just sore arms afterward. At first my mom said the flu shot was worse; it was more sore later but not too bad. They said the site was very organized and it took them half an hour, including the 15 minutes of post-shot observation.
I don’t have any absurd cute today so here’s just a feel-good something…
My 91 yo dad got the first installment of the vaccine. Sore arm at first, but he said he felt pretty ill 3 hours before bedtime. Went to bed and slept well, and the next morning he felt fine. I am so relieved. Now we’ve got to take care of my 80 yo step-mom.
Thank you, Allein! This was wonderful🤩
It’s the weekend!
All is well at the Duckie house. Little Duckie is being spoiled rotten. We’ve got some cold weather coming, and i’ve been experimenting with a cage cover that has pockets for heat packs. She disapproves of the commotion, but DEFINITELY approves of the warmth.
Hubby’s work situation is going well. They got a new contract (with some help from him), and we’re waiting to see if he gets a bonus for it.
Tomorrow is our twelfth anniversary. We have no plans (hooray!) and simply intend to spend the day together, knowing full well that family will interfere somehow.
Muppet, you take care of yourself and obey Drs. Penny and Teller.
Everyone, have a great day.
Aw, Muppet, I hope you have a quick recovery. That sounds awfully painful.
Happy Anniversary, Duckie!
Allein and N. Fritz- I got my second shot yesterday (Moderna) and it’s really knocked me on my butt. By the end of the day my arm was so sore. Got very little sleep last night and woke up with a temp of 101.7 (feeling a lot better after being up for a couple hours, though). Make sure your parents don’t have anything planned the next day, and stock up on Tylenol. Ice helped with the arm soreness, too. Everyone reacts differently, so they may breeze through it, but better to be prepared.
And this is still 1000X better than getting COVID.
Their second shot is scheduled for March 4th, which is four weeks so I assume they got Moderna as well. They are prepared for potentially feeling worse after the second dose.
I haven’t even really looked into the whole thing for myself because I figure it’ll be a while before I’m eligible. NJ has a site where you can pre-register and then you’ll get contacted somehow (I assume by email) when the time comes. I am 45 without complicating health issues and not in any kind of front-line job so I will be last on the list. I should probably register, anyway. Hopefully by then there will be more places to get it. (Though my parents only had to go about 20 minutes; they set up a site at the community college. I was worried they’d have to go to one of the really big sites the state set up, but there are only six of those and none are in our county. The closest is not somewhere I’d want to drive to.)
I work in health care (I’m an audiologist at an ENT office) and our parent company, which is huge health system, has done a great job of prioritizing when each employee gets the vaccine. The sign up system was pretty flawless. They’ve started vaccinating the community now, too, although they’ve had to pause appointments until they’re guaranteed more doses. But that’s better than scheduling the appt and then having to cancel, which some other medical offices have done. I was so thrilled to see how many seniors came in yesterday while I was getting mine; so many of my patients have talked about how happy they’ll be to finally get to see their families, etc, that it was amazing to finally see that first step being taken.
My cousin’s wife is a physical therapist and got hers a few weeks ago.
Hope your foot gets better quickly, muppet! I’m glad to hear that everyone’s elders are getting their COVID vaccines; my mom gets hers tomorrow and my dad on Tuesday. That’s such a great weight off my mind! It’ll be a while for me, I’m only in my mid-50’s with extra-fluffy ness being my only complication. I can wait though, as long as my parents are ok.
Lily doesn’t understand all the fuss and really just wants to nap in peace…
That is the very picture of “napping in peace.”
Teller is so helpful, as well as gorgeous. Muppet, hope you’re back on both feet soon.
Duckie and hubby, happy anniversary!
Hello to everyone else and hope you’re all well. Lily certainly knows how to live the life. I’m about to mimic her in a few with a cozy nap. I spent all morning on my feet in the dye studio; now it’s time to get horizontal.
Ouch! Muppet, I’m glad it was no worse, and I hope you heal with a minimum of pain and discomfort and a maximum of speed.
Happy Anniversary, Duckie!
Everyone else, just hang in there!
Glad that for the most part everyone’s doing well this weekend and that people are getting their vaccines.
My parents got their first round this morning. They immediately called and I kid you not, my father’s first words were:
So how soon can you fly up here?
sigh He still doesn’t get what’s going on. Decides for himself what’s real and what’s not.
Apparently there’s a foosball game or something on tomorrow?
Sorry to hear about your break. Spoil yourself to make for it. Something yummy always makes me feel better.
