Reader gets a sweet surprise on Valentine’s Day
Candy may be dandy, but reader and frequent cat contributor Squiddy received an even sweeter treat this past Valentine’s Day:
I got a loaner guinea pig from the Humane Society as part of a rescue from a hoarding situation. She was pregnant and nameless, so, since she looked like a Creamsicle, I called her Sherbet.
I’ve been expecting her to give birth every day since I got her, and finally, the day before Valentines, in the middle of our only snowstorm of the year, it finally happened. She popped out three mini-mes in 20 minutes. They were active from the very first moment and even now are sampling hay and kale along with their mama’s milk.
They’re still a little uncertain about me, since I pick them up all the time and shower them with human pettings and kisses. Mama pig is a lot more laid back in her love than I am.
Welcome to the world, little Neapolitan, Ripple, and Cornetto! (From closest to furthest away)
Awwww!
You did pick the icecream names! Yay and squee!!
Squee!
Squiddy, I’m so jelly! (That’s how the kids say jealous)
All the peeg names are wonderful. I wish I would I could these precious babies in cuddles and kisses too. So good of you to open your home to these little house guests. I hope they go onto to loving forever homes.
P.S. I am old enough for “Ripple” to bring something other than ice cream immediately to mind …
🤣😂😜!
As promised! Thank you, these little pipsqueaks (accent on the squeak) are adorable!!! So is Mom. I was on a site just recently to learn about guinea pig care and feeding. I love them so much – especially their body to tootsie ratio. But if we do get another pet it will most likely be an older cat.
Such a sweet little family. If they were lined up in my lap I’d never get up.
Awwwww, totes adorbs! (Other “kid” speak…)
So cute!!! Squee!!! And the names!! I’m just speechless!
They look so big to be so new but then kids grow up so fast.
They are the same size as when they were born. The only thing I can think of is that mama Sherbet has no bones. She was HUGE when she was pregnant and is maybe half the size now.
That was so kind of you Squiddy, to foster a pregnant guinea pig. Glad they found a safe place. The babies are so cute and their names are clever. Now I want an orange sherbert hot fudge sundae. It’s a great combo, even though I get strange looks when ordering one.
K’ I just had ice cream for an afternoon snack and it’s all your fault.
(Turkey Hill All Natural chocolate chocolate chip.)
I’ll add to the “squee!” 😀
Probably told you all about this before, but when I was in about 3rd grade, my elementary school library had small animals available to check out and take home for a week (rabbits, guinea pigs, and I think there was even a chinchilla). I checked out a guinea pig that no one realized was pregnant until, to my mom’s horror, we came home one night to a bunch of little baby pigs. The school let me choose one of the babies to keep since they were born at my house. Eight year old me named him “Cupcake,” and I had to keep him at my grandma’s house as my mom wouldn’t let me have a “permanent” pet. Loved that little critter, so much that I got another one that looked just like Sherbet up there. We named him Rocket because he would race around the cage.
“Loaner guinea pig”…I’m now having visions of Sherbert being returned to the humane society and being carefully examined for signs of wear and tear, spilled drinks etc.
So much cuteness! I’ve had guinea pig friends before (owned by a dear neighbor) and miss them.
