There are a rare few animal species whose anomalous properties defy simple classification, such as the platypus or the Chicken McNugget. Such is the case with the feathered land starfish (daffus dethpicablus), which is unusually adapted to both land and water, thanks to a series of webbed appendages.
Thanks to research associate Andrew Y.
Looks like a weird flower.
Very satisfying scroll down since after the comment about a series of webbed appendages I did wonder about its trajectory.
World’s cutest shoggoth.
Could not figure it out. Had to go to Reddit. I actually thought it was a star-shaped pillow with baby somethings on top.
You and me both, had to take glasses off and peer extremely closely at screen before it made sense. Then brain went, Ahh, it’s duckies!! Very cute, love the feather patterns on them.
Yeah, that was kind of creepy. Especially the white ‘eyes’ on the butts.
I love the Latin name for this creature!
What a cute, fluffy, um, starfish.
If you only look at the butts of the 3 at the bottom of the photo, with the white dots “ears” and the black feather “nose”, they look like some type of big rodents. Especially the one on the bottom left!
Yes!
I always look for the ‘eagle eye’ perspective in the comments.
Awww. The sweeties must be chilly!
Ded.
daffus dethpicablus!!
Hilarious and strangely beautiful. I hope “exotic creatures” becomes a regular series.
