Weekend Open Thread

Greetings, fellow Cutetropolitans. Today we find ourselves in the library of N. Fritz, where Mutz (rhymes with “puts”) has a message for you that could change the course of your life. A message so important, that can only be told in this serious and dignified location. Are you ready for the message? Enjoy your weekend.

Looks like more of a threat than a suggestion! I will comply.

  2. AJ April 24, 2021 / 8:33 am

Oh so serious but thanks for the reminder Mutz and N Fritz. And I’ll do as instructed. Today is running errands which frees up tomorrow for a ride with the car club hubby belongs to. And where are we going? Not a clue but it might be some distance as everyone is meeting up and leaving by 7 am. Last time we left that early was when we went up the coast to Malibu. Just hoping it’s not that far.

    • Tara April 24, 2021 / 11:23 am

Is this one of those car clubs with very special cars? (I hope?) 🙂

      • AJ April 24, 2021 / 6:24 pm

it’s a Mustang club. Hubby has a 2016 cobalt blue convertible, called Blue Thunder. Check it out

It’s pretty impressive when do a ride, anywhere from 8-12 mustangs in a row roaring up the highway.

        • SoccerSue April 24, 2021 / 7:05 pm

          Holy cow, that is beautiful!

        • Tara April 25, 2021 / 9:59 am

          oooOOOOooooo! so pretty
When I lived in CA I always loved seeing caravans of cars. New or old, didn’t matter, it was a long line of people who took great pride in their passion. And were some of the nicest people with whom to strike up a conversation.
I hope you have a lovely drive AJ!

My husband finally was released from the hospital yesterday afternoon!

I’ll be running errands today while he rest from his ordeal. He will have to go back in 2 weeks for a procedure and will also have to see urologist later but for now he is home and the cats are happy.

Speaking of cats I think my oldest Beans is slowly loosing her mind, she woke me up last night around 3 o’clock screaming her head off. It wasn’t simply meowing it was howling.
I got up and found her in the middle of the kitchen, I scooped her up and she calmed down. She usually does that during the day and has done that once before at night. I know older cats sometimes suffer from dementia, I’ll have to talk to my vet about it.

Well I hope everyone has a great weekend!

    • Ricky & Bibi's Mom April 24, 2021 / 6:11 pm

I’m so glad your husband is back home! Sorry about Beans—maybe she was just letting your husband know she had missed him?

  4. Dulcie April 24, 2021 / 10:38 am

Ah the very serious, but cute and sweet at the same time, Mutz! I will enjoy the weekend!

    Georgiana…👍

  5. allein 🐾 April 24, 2021 / 10:58 am

    Yay for Georgiana’s hubby!

I was supposed to see my friend today but she said we should do it another time because she needs to get some things done this weekend and also her sister-in-law has covid (her brother tested negative). I don’t know if she was at their party last weekend but now I’m glad I didn’t go. She seems to have a mild case.

Got laundry and stuff to do. I need to clean up cuz the dryer vent cleaner guy is coming Thursday.

Also I need to organize my kitchen…

  6. Debg April 24, 2021 / 11:37 am

Happy Caturday, everyone! Mutz, you are a wise kitty and I’ll take your excellent advice.

Such good news about Georgiana’s hubby! Hope all the recent vaccinees are doing well. I get my second jab on Thursday!!! With any luck, I’ll feel okay afterwards, because I’m giving a presentation the following Tuesday. A guild in Baltimore wants to learn about spinning from raw fleece–I’ve been writing it for weeks.

Quiet weekend here. If all goes as planned, I’ll actually warp my loom today or tomorrow!

    Hugs to you all.

  7. Carlotta April 24, 2021 / 12:08 pm

I’m going to get my first Moderna dose today! I’ve read about so many side effects that I feel like I’ve had most of them already! Hope that counts, and I don’t have many more.

    • Dulcie April 24, 2021 / 1:25 pm

      Best of luck Carlotta!

  8. Duckie 🐥 April 24, 2021 / 1:02 pm

Generally grumpy today. Swollen joints, covidiots, family, exhaustion and a moulting budgie.

    • Dulcie April 24, 2021 / 1:36 pm

Oh my Duckie. It does sound very trying.

The Covidiots have enraged me as well, yet again. Actually it is a combination of rage and absolute heart pain. The idiots in question are harassing healthcare workers for “killing people” with their “deadly” vaccines. Some of the signs, while beyond stupid, are very cruel. And this is what these physically and emotionally exhausted front line workers have to greet them as they leave from another work day in hellish circumstances.
I continue to struggle to get through these days knowing that there are people like that out there in our world.

But Allein!! Your Tyrannoborkus Rex was just the perfect thing!! 😁

      • Debg April 24, 2021 / 1:51 pm

I share your exhaustion, pain, rage. I keep hoping the smart people will outnumber the Covidiots in the end.

And I share your love for Tyrannoborkus Rex.

      • allein 🐾 April 24, 2021 / 2:04 pm

        Glad she could help!

    • Debg April 24, 2021 / 3:09 pm

Hugs to you, your family, and your moulting budgie. Does she have a chest wig, like the teenage penguins?

      • Duckie 🐥 April 24, 2021 / 3:13 pm

No, she’s just really thin all of a sudden.

  9. Debg April 24, 2021 / 1:53 pm

Just got done scanning 153 barcodes for books I want to give away. That was a job of work! Yet still much faster than any other system. Now my brother’s oldest child can choose books that they want, easily and quickly. Barcodes and smart phones. What did we do before we had these glorious inventions?

    • Ricky & Bibi's Mom April 24, 2021 / 4:06 pm

So many of my books are BB (Before Barcodes). And I have some whose ISBN numbers are no longer listed anywhere.

And this is after two massive rounds of decluttering, and some smaller maintenance rounds. I guess the oldies are the goodies to me.

      • Debg April 25, 2021 / 11:29 am

The ISBNs have to be registered with Library of Congress, unless of course they predate LOC or weren’t published in the US! Copyright pages have all that info.

  10. Duckie 🐥 April 24, 2021 / 3:10 pm

Unfortunately, most of my family are covidiots.

    • Dulcie April 24, 2021 / 3:51 pm

Duckie…oh dear. And an extra “oh dear” for good measure. That’s ruff. ☹️

  11. dubravkamcvmd April 24, 2021 / 3:19 pm

Mutz is a looker. Good news Georgiana!

  12. Tara April 24, 2021 / 4:00 pm

People! I just met the cutest dog ever! He was a Pocket Pitty. I’ve never heard of this bread. (I’m trying to put a picture here, but I don’t know how.) I thought he was a cross between a pitbull and a basset hound – the legs! He was very sweet and wearing a very silly black leather studded harness, which totally didn’t fit his personality. His owner was very nice though and stopped for a moment so I could meet him. So sweet.

I hope everyone recently jabbed and soon to be jabbed heal well and quickly. I got the Moderna vaccine. First jab – sore arm and headache. 2nd jab – had all the symptoms. It wasn’t fun. But remembering that it would pass helped a lot.

Mutzchen, you sure are handsome. 😊

Georgiana – glad hubby is home and healing. 🥳

    Duckie – sending good thoughts❤️

    Have a great weekend all!

    • allein 🐾 April 24, 2021 / 4:12 pm

I had to google Pocket Pittie and here is one of my favorites of the image results. S/he looks sassy.

  13. allein 🐾 April 24, 2021 / 4:31 pm

Just looked out the window and saw woman walking down the street with two fluffy pups in a stroller.

    That is all.

We’re having glorious weather in England at the moment. On Thursday I went for a long walk by the river and saw a young man riding a penny farthing bike, the first time I’ve seen one in real life – how the heck do you get on or off those things?!

      • allein 🐾 April 24, 2021 / 5:55 pm

        😁

      • dubravkamcvmd April 24, 2021 / 7:40 pm

Ask, and Allein shall answer – with a video! I am certain I could not get on or off one of those. I love the explainer’s accent.

  14. Duckie 🐥 April 24, 2021 / 6:00 pm

Enjoying all the positive and supportive comments today, and the good news.
Hubby just looked at swollen ankle and informed me there are two puncture marks in the worst of the redness. Duckie is singing her “I’m being supportive of you because it’s not me” song.

    • Georgiana April 24, 2021 / 6:43 pm

Wondering what the “I’m being supportive of you because it’s not me” song sound like.

      Also, something bit you?

      • Duckie 🐥 April 24, 2021 / 7:58 pm

Looks like a spider bite. Two little holes close together.

        • Ricky & Bibi's Mom April 24, 2021 / 8:06 pm

Oh, dearie, dear. Based on your description, could well be.

          • Duckie 🐥 April 24, 2021 / 8:11 pm

            🕷😱

  15. N. Fritz April 25, 2021 / 2:33 am

a little late to the thread because yesterday was unusually busy for a Caturday. First I taught online in the morning, and now am fretting over two exchange students who aren’t taking the course seriously. I made chicken veggie soup, then soaked up some gorgeous spring weather with a walk through the cemetery. In the evening we hosted a Zoom event for friends. Before Covid, we used to meet every year in April for “Literature and Wine” at an abbey which was founded in the 11th century. This year we brought the wine and literature inside. I read from The Phantom Tollbooth to honor Norton Juster’s passing in March.

Mutz says thanks for all the love (except he says it with that library scowl he’s become famous for!)

    • Debg April 25, 2021 / 11:31 am

What abbey, N. Fritz? I collect medieval buildings.

      • N. Fritz April 25, 2021 / 3:48 pm

Göttweig Abbey in the Wachau Valley. The readings take place in the “Brunnensaal” and the intermissions are spent on the terrace overlooking the nightlights of Krems.
