It’s a new Caturday and we have a new visitor in the chat room: it’s Stars, from frequent submitter Allein S., who writes:
Here she is, before she started sliding off the back of the couch. I was there for dinner and she actually stayed up there the whole time, instead of hiding in the bedroom like she usually does.
Aww, such a pretty girl. Glad she decided to be sociable. Pebbles is like her usually disappears if someone comes in but has been out more often, even let my hubby pick her up and pet her a few times.
It has been an interesting week with the other cat, Bam Bam. He was acting off, crying and hissing for no reason. plus major hiding (talk about unsociable!) Got in to the vet yesterday and somehow the poor guy has broken his tail. Has anyone else’s cat done something similar? The vet was even saying he might need surgery. Fingers crossed it isn’t that bad but just waiting on X-ray results and seeing what the specialist recommends. The worst part was Thursday when poor baby somehow got out of the kitty catio and decided to hide under the deck area of our yard and didn’t want to come, not for tuna, not for turkey. I don’t even know how he squeezed himself under there as it’s so low to the ground. Roommate finally had to take up some boards to get him out. Now to patch and repair so landlord doesn’t find out. Good thing I’m not planning to move soon.
Weekend is going to be a little quieter. Birthday party for a friend’s daughter and car club meet-up tonight. Errands tomorrow. And just trying to stay cool. Mother Nature doesn’t know what she’s doing. In the last week or two, it’s been grey and rainy with temps in the 60s, fairly nice and 70s but windy, and the last two days high 80s. The next doors are supposed to be cooler before warming up again. And it’s only May. I just wish she’d pick a temp and stop the rollercoaster.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.
Poor Bam Bam. The weather in NYC has been like what you’re describing.
Oh no, poor Bam Bam. I sure hope he feels better soon – preferably without surgery!
Poor Bam Bam! It seems to me he had a very good reason for his behavior, though not an obvious one. I’m glad you were able to find out what it was with the help of your vet. Good luck1
Poor baby Bam Bam. We’re sending healing purrs.
Weather in CO has been like yours–we had snow last week, and today it’s supposed to be 88F.
Yay! For the record, she did not, in fact, slide off the couch. She saved herself and it was adorable but I felt a little bad for laughing.
Stars is a Very Pretty Kitty!
And that is an adorable Maltese (or perhaps a Coton de Tulear) in that gif. Reminds me of Ricky.
My my Stars, aren’t you gorgeous with your Cleopatra eyeliner! What a beautiful girl.
Happy Caturday everyone. I’m recovering from a two day bout of really bad allergies. I’d taken Friday as a vacation day to get some things done. Instead I slept for six hours in the morning, and couldn’t get it in gear after that. My nephew turns six next Saturday. Last year I promised to get him one of those hydroponic aquariums and he did not forget! The aquarium has arrived at Gramma & Grampa’s house safe and sound. Just need to get the fish. I had hoped that being fully vaccinated would allow a flight to California for the occasion to buy the fish with my nephew, but the rest of the family (also vaccinated) is too skittish. I understand and don’t want to make them uncomfortable, but it’s also really hard to still stay away. Hopefully soon.
Hope you all have wonderful weekend plans!
🙂
You’re such a great auntie. Happy birthday to your nephew. Hope you get to see family soon.
Sweet Stars! Beautiful kitty!
Anyone gonna watch the Derby?

Yup! I will be visiting some friends (we are all fully vaccinated and past our two-week marks). We will watch together and there will be mint juleps and key lime pie! There will be just five of us, plus Bibi, so I am not feeling too nervous about the gathering indoors. But it does all feel very new and strange, at least in anticipation.
Wow. Just wow. How wonderful. Truly wonderful. Enjoy!!
I will be one of seven at a neighbors’ party. One of them is from Louisville and every year there is a party (except last year). There will be mint juleps. Everyone is fully vaccinated, except their Westie Molly.
Does Molly have a mask? 😁
She doesn’t need one – she’s full of magic cuteness antibodies1
This is fabulous! Thank you! I copied it and sent it to Molly’s Mom.
Awww! Of course!💕
This is a post in response to your remark about antibody cuteness Dubra, but it wouldn’t post under it
Aw, Stars is such a pretty thing. I want to scritch her.
I got my second Moderna shot yesterday – yay – so am feeling pretty terrible today – fever, chills, stomach cramps, and everything generally hurts. So, I’m just going to hunker down with ibuprofen and oj and my bratty fuzzball Cricket. Hope everyone else has a good weekend!
Hope your symptoms clear up soon! Hunkering down is the way to go.
Ditto from me too. At least we know what the cause of these symptoms are and that it is usually short lived!
If you haven’t taken the ibuprofen yet, don’t! Only Tylenol is recommended, so as not to interfere with the efficiency of the Moderna jab.
If you have taken the ibuprofen already, so be it. Just don’t take any more. And I hope your side effects clear up fast!
Okay there is really mixed messages on the ibuprofen. Just to be on the safe side use something else! When I got my shot the information sheet said it is “now” ok to use ibuprofen. I don’t even know what that means!? It wasn’t once, but something has changed?
Basically you want to do Tylenol instead of an NSAID because you don’t want the anti inflammatory effect. You WANT the inflammation as that is the vaccine doing it’s bit. But I think after so many hours?? (I’m not a dr, I just work with them) it’s ok. And you haven’t ruined everything by taking it, the side effects show that your body is responding.
It’s a nice quiet weekend here, we finally got sunshine today after a couple of days of rain and cold. It still not very warm, only 10c/50F but it feels nicer with the sun out. We did have a few days of really warm, even bordering on hot weather at the beginning of April but it didn’t last long enough for me to swap my winter wardrobe for the summer one.
Well that’s about it for me, hope everyone has a good weekend!
It was nice yesterday and I wanted to go to the park but it was super windy when I left work (the wind was even kind enough to close my car door for me), then we got some heavy rain last night, and now it’s sunny and 57F.
Stars is a gorgeous girl. I’m glad you got to see her, Allein, and even more glad that you got a photo to share with us!
Got my second Moderna on Thursday, and this time because I was careful about what I ate, no nausea. Just a headache yesterday, which could be fixed with some Tylenol. I even managed a brief workout, making 24 for April (my monthly goal).
How is it May already? On Tuesday, I give my big spinning presentation to the Weaving Guild of Greater Baltimore, which is exciting. Haven’t been in a “classroom” for a long time! Took photos of fleece, prepped fiber, and spun yarn today for the presentation and that’s really the last big thing I have to do. There may be time this weekend to wind another warp for my loom!
Hope everybody is doing well this Caturday.
I got another one several days later; I sent it to Mike earlier this morning. I’ll leave it up to him if he wants to share it here or save it for another day.
Welp, got the results from the vet for Mr. Bam Bam. And unfortunately it doesn’t look good. And I had to be the one to break the news to my friend. It’s official – Bam Bam has broken his tail at the base and they’re recommending a specialist surgical consult to discuss amputation of the whole tail. Plus he has hyperthyroidism and he’ll need to be on meds for life. Considering he’s 14/15 yrs old, I also had to give him the option that it might be time to let Bam Bam go. I feel so bad for my friend – first he lost his partner, now possibly one of the cats; it’s been such a rough year so far for him. I recommended he spends at least the money on the consult and see what the options are plus how the vet thinks Bam Bam may come through before deciding anything. Some healing thoughts for both of them would be appreciated.
Poor baby 🙁
We could all use this kind of cuddling.
I’m so sorry for Bam Bam and your friend.
So sorry for Bam Bam, your friend, and you. We’re crossing our paws for poor Bam Bam.
I’m so sorry about Bam Bam! I hope the surgeon decides to take the most moderate approach to the tail issue. My mom has been adopted by a feral cat whose tail was apparently broken in several places, but healed, albeit crookedly. I hope they can save Bam Bam’s tail, but he would likely do just fine without it, as many cats do, once they have a bit of time to adjust. As for the hyperthyroidism, Bam Bam could potentially get radiation treatment. I had 2 cats do that for hyperthyroidism. OR, if he needs meds, there are compounding pharmacies that can make yummy tuna or beef or chicken-flavored meds that kitties actually usually like. Best of luck with Bam Bam and for his dad!
I can’t remember what sort of thyroid issues my then 18 year old cat had, but the meds were applied to her inner ear and it was really no problem to deliver them. Hopefully BamBam could go a similar route once the tail situation is dealt with. 15 years isn’t all that old for a cat! Poor old BamBam😢
That’s right! I forgot about the meds you can rub on their ears! Whoever invented those should get the Nobel Prize. Hopefully Bam Bam can keep going for a long time to come. I’ve had cats live into their 20s, and the Guinness World Record kitty lived to be 38! One 30 year kitty even had a kitten at around 32, as well.
I’m at my parents’ house and they are babysitting my cousin’s dog. She just growled at the horses on the TV. 🐶🐎
I am truly sorry for your friend AJ. I was just going to post and see how it was going with Bam Bam and I read this bad news. Here’s hoping there’s some options… 🤞💕
The weekend’s almost over and I don’t know who will see this but I had to share. I found a baggie of little candy-size cupcake cups in my kitchen so I decided to make some milk chocolate and rice krispies candies (melt a bag of chocolate chips in the microwave and mix in a cup of cereal), but I had some left over after I ran out of cups so I put the rest on a sliced banana.
OH MY GOODNESS YUM!
I’ve seen it and now I want to try it!
Hey what a good idea. I would love the rice crispies of course but what about fruit ‘n nut?
What is in that bar…raisins and almonds? 🤔
I don’t eat nuts but I love melted chocolate with strawberries, or bananas, or cherries. I was craving a Nestle Crunch a couple weeks ago so I made them as bars but they were too thick and hard to cut. Found the little cups in the drawer and still had most of the bag of cereal and another bag of chocolate chips, so I figured I’d use those up. I still have one more banana…might have to melt a couple of my candies down again. 😋
I used Ghirardelli chocolate, though. 😉 I think the rest of the cereal will become marshmallow treats.
