Weekend Open Thread

Happy Caturday, fellow Cutetropolitans! If the chat room looks a bit untidy today, it’s because today’s guest, Teller, has taken an interest in the laundry. Here’s reader Muppet2171 with the deets:

Teller might have a problem. First, he takes my towels out of the laundry. Then, the contents of a whole box in the closet. Now, he’s taken the only flannel shirt I own that doesn’t make me look like I misplaced my axe. I dread the moment he locates my wallet.

It’s sooooo soft!

Teller is adorable and yes hide your wallet. Be lucky he steals clean clothes. I had one dog that used to snatch dirty laundry from the hamper and run through the house with it. Kinda embarrassing when it’s your uhm “unmentionables” and there’s company over. And I had a cat that loooved to jump into the dryer and lie on the warm clean clothes.

Not much going on this weekend. I have a piece of furniture that needs to be built but I kept getting distracted this week. Birthday party this afternoon, we went lastSat and realized oops we’re a week early. Grocery shopping and then I need to go buy new bath towels. I realized mine are all getting a little shabby. I actually went into the office twice this week and I may request/volunteer to start going in a couple days a week because I find I’m more productive there. At home I keep finding stuff to do that has nothing to with my actual job.

Enjoy the nice weather this weekend.

Getting back to “normal” is going to be another challenge in the long scheme of things isn’t it?!

How old is Teller? Could he get a job? It sounds like he would enjoy taking on projects. He’s very handsome – I’m sure he could get interviews.

    • Muppet2171 May 8, 2021 / 11:30 am

He’s 11. And would only agree to interviews if I were the one conducting them. He hates anyone who isn’t me. Total one-person cat.

Teller looks so soft, I had a cat that used to steel socks if you left them on the floor, she would “hunt” them and then walk around with it in her mouth while miaowing until we told ” good girl you killed it” then she’d drop it and go do something else.

The husband saga is back on, at his appointment on Thursday at the hospital with the urologist where they were supposed to remove the stint he placed to facilitate urination, the doctor said they were leaving it in place because there are more stones to be removed and that he will get an appointment in the next two weeks for the operation.

I swear the man is a stone factory! But I shouldn’t make fun because when he got back from the hospital he started feeling bad, he took his temperature and he had a fever of 37.8C (a little more than a 100F). He slept very poorly that night and we had to get up early Friday morning because the cable guy was coming “between 7h30 and 12h00”.
He took a nap in the afternoon and wasn’t feeling so bad when he got up but by evening his fever was back up and he was actually shivering, so I gave him more Tylenol and put him to bed. He got up late this morning and he says he feels better and he doesn’t have a fever so that’s good. He’s going for the pre-operation tests this Tuesday, I hope he get a date for the operation soon after!!

Hope you all have a good weekend, stay safe!

Stones are definitely a curse. I’ve had them and apparently it’s a thing – they recur

    • Debg May 8, 2021 / 12:43 pm

So sorry about his continued suffering. A dear friend of mine had emergency surgery for (I think) liver stones this week–it was stressful to watch from a distance, as I had cat care duties. Can’t imagine what it must be like to what your partner go through this.

    • AJ May 8, 2021 / 1:36 pm

If they’re anything like gallstones, then it must be beyond painful. Here’s to a speedy recovery.

    • Dulcie May 8, 2021 / 2:03 pm

Oh Georgiana I hope he continues to feel better and that it isn’t a persistent infection! 💕

This sounds utterly miserable. Hang in there, and best of luck to your poor husband.

Happy Caturday. I’d stay in my shell but I have to go to the store and get dessert for Mother’s Day.

    • Emsthemonster May 8, 2021 / 1:15 pm

Oh Allein, you have found the perfect illustration for my 2021!
      I love Liz Climo.

Now I want a milkshake with a crazy straw.

Might have to pick up some ice cream (will forgo the straw, though). I have some strawberries…

It’s a cold wet day in Duckieville, and we are all considering going back to bed.
Duckie being unbearably cute, as usual.

Beautiful and hilarious. Mabel bringing in firewood! Andrew Cotter has a lovely soul.

      • Murray C. May 9, 2021 / 11:37 am

Yes, he does! Love him and his doggies.

Georgiana, I hope hubby gets through everything with the least pain possible – I had heard that kidney stones are second only to child birth in pain level. It must be so hard to see him so miserable, poor guy.

        • dubravkamcvmd May 9, 2021 / 1:18 pm

I was impressed when doctors referred to the pain of kidney stones as pain, not “discomfort.”

  7. Debg May 8, 2021 / 12:47 pm

Teller–such a character. Muppet, I love that you love him because of his quirks, not in spite of them.

Have to adult today and it’s making me a little grumpy. I’d prefer to be weaving, thank you very much!!! Or, well, anything that isn’t sitting at the computer downloading files, unzipping them, and then moving them to a new cloud storage service. Since my work life involves sitting at the computer, in the basement, away from the upstairs cats, I like to spend my weekends doing something else. But I’ll survive.

The big Presentation on Tuesday seemed to go off without a hitch. It’s hard to tell, though, when you’re Zooming to 40+ people but can only see 1 or new faces! And it’s a HUGE relief to be done with it.

Gorgeous mornings in Colorado always make me happy. Fortunately, we have many such days.

    Hugs to you all.

The quirks are the things that made me love all the animals that have graced my life! So many special ones.

    Muppet…”misplaced my axe”…🤣🤣!!

Heading out to get my second vaccine shot shortly. Hope I won’t need the bottle of Tylenol I just bought just in case. But, either way I’m excited to get this and feel lucky (maybe privileged is a better word).

Yesterday I booked a ticket for one of the first shows to be staged at my local theatre since it closed in March last year. It’s about a (fictional) meeting between novelist Graham Greene, played by one of my favourite actors, Oliver Ford Davies, and spy Kim Philby. Hurrah! Let’s hope this heralds a return to near-normality in late summer/early autumn.

Oh, some sad news: former First Dog Bo Obama has died of cancer at the age of twelve.

      • dubravkamcvmd May 8, 2021 / 6:07 pm

I saw the news. Very sad.

      • Debg May 8, 2021 / 7:07 pm

So sad about Bo. I remember when they adopted him.

Alice, you must be so excited about going to the theatre! It’s nice to see some of the “before times” stuff coming back. It will take me a while to feel comfortable participating, however. I’m more like the turtle in Allein’s cartoon above–too nervous around people still.

      • Dana May 8, 2021 / 8:20 pm

Yes, very sad news. Wonderful pictures of him on Obama’s IG today. Especially love the photo from behind of Bo and Obama running down a corridor.

      • Murray C. May 9, 2021 / 11:39 am

Wonderful for you, Alice! Hope your dad is doing well, too.

I, too, heard about Bo – sweet dog. I think he lived a decent length of time, anybody know how old he was?

  10. Dulcie May 8, 2021 / 6:32 pm

    I loved Bo. 💕
