Weekend Open Thread

Welcome to another beautiful Caturday in Cutetropolis. Today we’re visiting reader Tracy R. and Hamster, who is relaxing out on the new “catio.” It looks like a beautiful place to have breakfast, even though there’s no place to rest your plate at the moment.

Good morning! I actually woke up early this morning, read in bed a bit, made some hot chocolate and moved to the recliner in the living room, read some more, made some tea, and finished my book (which was a library ebook that will expire in two days so I had to finish). All before even looking at my computer. [And when I finally did, my internet was out. So I am typing this in notepad until I can load the page.]

Plans for the weekend involve laundry, making fruit sauce to mix into yogurt, moving some stuff that will go into the dumpster (that will be here June 7th) into my car so I can get it out of my way, and clearing out the floor in my office/library so I can make space for my yoga mat.

Hamster is lovely and I would like to join him on the catio for breakfast. No food necessary; he can have the table. Or my lap.

Here is a last picture of Stars that my mom sent from the vet yesterday. Poor baby. Hopefully she is snuggling with her brother over the bridge.

(Thank you, Mike, for the upload and link.)

Thanks Allen for sharing, such a pretty kitty. Sounds like you’re doing better this morning. I’d love to join Hamster on the catio, looks so lovely. I’m actually on my way to AZ for 2 weeks. Hubby’s Mustang cub is having a weekend meet up there plus he has a work assignment so I jumped at the chance to get out of town for awhile. only downside is it’s gonna be sizzling hot, 90s and 100s but at least it’s a dry heat. Have a good weekend all!

I think it’s supposed to be in the 70s here. Haven’t been outside yet but it’s sunny.

      • Debg May 15, 2021 / 1:10 pm

AJ, how is Bam Bam doing? I keep worrying about him.

        • AJ May 15, 2021 / 6:59 pm

DebG he’s actually doing much better and moving his tail. He’s almost back to normal. I think the vet went with the worst case scenario instead of looking at any other options. Never went to a surgical consult either so my friend is just doing the wait and see approach, if he looks like he’s in pain or it gets worse then he’ll bring back in.

          • Dulcie May 15, 2021 / 8:47 pm

That’s good news about Bam Bam. Sometimes cats can recover from the most dire looking conditions all on their own! But wise to keep monitoring as your friend is doing.

Oh, dear, I missed the sad news. RIP, Stars. You were loved and will be remembered. Condolences, Allein.

      • allein 🐾 May 15, 2021 / 11:52 am

Thank you <3. (I posted about it yesterday in the links thread. My mom said Thursday night that she wasn’t eating and kept stopping to sit or lay down when walking through the house. They took her to the vet yesterday and she had a lot of fluid in her belly and had lost weight; the vet thinks she probably had a tumor. She just turned 15.)

        • Ricky & Bibi's Mom May 15, 2021 / 9:41 pm

I guess it was her time, but it’s always too soon. I’m glad her suffering is ended. My sympathy to you and your family.

          • allein 🐾 May 15, 2021 / 10:42 pm

Yeah. Just wish I knew it would be the last time I saw her on Sunday. 🙁
15’s not a bad run for a kitty, right?

I posted about it on Facebook and my cousin, who rescued her and her siblings, said that she was the last of the bunch. (There were four, the other two went to friends of his.) Maybe they’re all playing together again.

    • Debg May 15, 2021 / 12:31 pm

Precious Stars. I was thinking about her, and you and your family, last night. Sending you hugs as you grieve.

    • Luv Bunny May 15, 2021 / 12:59 pm

Awww, that’s a sad picture for me. Bless Star’s precious heart. I know it was for the best but still, sad.
Hamster sure seems comfy. I’d just hold the plate of food in my lap & hope Hamster didn’t knock over my drink.

        • Dulcie May 15, 2021 / 2:01 pm

I could barely look at the last picture of Stars. My eyes teared up. I am going to remember her “slide off the couch” from last week’s picture. Chase those sunbeams over the bridge now sweet Stars. 💕

    • Kar May 15, 2021 / 4:49 pm

      What a gorgeous baby.

So glad that she was with people who love her.

      *** cyber hugs ****

    • Murray C. May 15, 2021 / 10:34 pm

Oh, no! I’m so sorry about Stars! I haven’t been able to keep up with all things Cutetropolis so I must’ve missed some posts. I know that look on her face and it breaks my heart.

Hamster is, indeed a lovely puss – and a dish in his? Her? Own right.

I continue to labor in the garden pretty much every day. Yesterday I got a record (for me anyway) number of steps – 16,000.

      • dubravkamcvmd May 16, 2021 / 10:52 am

I know that look too. Heartbreaking is right.

    • Catwhisperer May 19, 2021 / 10:35 am

I’m just catching up. So sorry for you loss, Allein. She was a very lucky kitty to have such a caring home.

      • allein 🐾 May 19, 2021 / 10:56 am

Thank you…it’ll be weird next time I go over to the house.

  2. allein 🐾 May 15, 2021 / 11:19 am

On a lighter note, here is a picture of a giraffe, taken from a drone. 🦒

    • Murray C. May 15, 2021 / 10:34 pm

      ❤️

    • dubravkamcvmd May 16, 2021 / 10:53 am

I would love to know what the giraffe thought of the drone.

      • allein 🐾 May 16, 2021 / 11:10 am

        Finally, a proper selfie!

  3. allein 🐾 May 15, 2021 / 11:22 am

On an even lighter note, I saw this last night with the caption
    “Frogs have butt cheeks. You’re welcome.” 🐸 🍑 😄

    • Alice Shortcake May 15, 2021 / 11:46 am

He looks like an elderly gentleman getting out of the bath and reaching for a towel!

      • Luv Bunny May 15, 2021 / 11:52 am

Thanks for the “can’t unsee that” image now. I’ll stick with the frog has butt cheeks image. That pic would fit in October (Octockber)? Buttocks month, in other words.

        • Debg May 15, 2021 / 12:32 pm

Yep, what is seen can’t be unseen. But I did not know that frogs had butt cheeks!

Drone giraffe looks ready for kisses. I would happily oblige!

        • Dulcie May 15, 2021 / 2:02 pm

          Tocktober?

          • Luv Bunny May 15, 2021 / 2:35 pm

That’s what I meant but the word eluded my brain. I knew someone in this group would remember. Of course I recalled it about an hour later.

            • Dulcie May 15, 2021 / 6:05 pm

Ok great! I wasn’t quite sure either after I wrote it down!

      • Kar May 15, 2021 / 4:50 pm

        Great,

now someone pass the mental bleach.

    • Murray C. May 15, 2021 / 10:35 pm

Sort of water Buffalo butt cheeks, but butt cheeks nonetheless.

  4. Debg May 15, 2021 / 12:37 pm

Happy Caturday, everyone! Hamster looks so very comfy. One of the (many) reasons I’d like to get a new house built: a catio! Plus hopefully things wouldn’t be breaking all the time.

I’m in a weird mood today. The big project at work is done: our brand new learning site opens its first class on Monday. It’s unsettling to have the project more or less done! Plans for dinner with friends may be on hold, due to possible hail storms–my schedule for the day, already unsettled by dinner plans, is now even more unsettled. I should dive into all the chores and fun projects I’ve got lined up, but can’t seem to work up the energy. I guess the word for the day is “unsettled.”

    Sending everybody hugs.

  5. Debg May 15, 2021 / 12:38 pm

PS Hamster is always so pretty!

I have not been this glad to end a week since high school.
-Huge family fight. Learned things I never knew, or wanted to know.
-Hubby and I attempted a week in mock-quarantine. I’ve never been so thrilled about a chiropractor appointment.
-Got a spider bite on other foot, this time outside. Worse than previous one.
-Found out hubby’s work insurance only covers basic cataract lens replacement. Scrabbling to find rest of $3300.
-Hot water heater in building died. Six days without hot water.
-Plumbers installed new heater Thursday. Steam set off smoke/heat detector in building. Hurt myself going down stairs because emergencies shut off elevator.
    -Sinus infection
Have decided to laugh off week and go out for dinner tomorrow, which will involve take out because dining in still prohibited.
Will be leaving Hamster all the sunshine; willing to sit in the shade with a cup of tea and adore.
Suggestion: Google corgi butt mouse pad.

Time for some online shopping! It’s even better than the kitty tissue box cover I used to have!

    • Debg May 15, 2021 / 1:11 pm

Duckie, so sorry about your horrible week. It does sound dreadful.

    • Kar May 15, 2021 / 4:51 pm

If only all of our problems could be solved by soaking in the sunshine all afternoon.

I say that you all get a rebate/refund on your monthly utilities for the lack of hot water and put that towards the cataract surgery.

    • dubravkamcvmd May 16, 2021 / 10:58 am

Awful week. I’m glad you could “laugh off” the week! I don’t know that I could. I would however, go to war with those spiders. There must be something that would poison them ( without poisoning everyone else!).

  7. Dulcie May 15, 2021 / 2:06 pm

Oh my yes Duckie what a horrible week. I suddenly feel like mine was marvelous now Perspective is a funny thing.
Where are the predator spiders hanging out??

  8. Georgiana May 15, 2021 / 2:50 pm

I’m late to the Caturday meeting this week, it’s finally warm enough to warrant taking out the summer wardrobe and putting away the wooly sweaters so I’ve been doing laundry since early this morning.

OK now for my husband health saga, it started on the Friday before Mother’s day, he had a fever of 37.8 C or 100 F same on Saturday, he didn’t want to go to the hospital because he already had an appointment for Tuesday this week.
On Sunday he went to see his mother for Mother’s Day and when he came back he said he was tired and took a nap. When he woke up he was shivering and shaking so much his teeth were chattering, I took his temperature and he was doing 39.4 C or 103 F !
I immediately took him to the emergency room (the hospital is 10 minutes from our house) and they took charge of him right away no waiting.
What he had is called acute pyelonephritis, it’s a bacterial infection of the renal pelvis and kidneys so he is still on antibiotics.
He came out of the hospital Friday and he’s feeling fine but he has to go back for tests this Thursday and there are still kidney stones that will have to be taken out so he will have to have an operation soon.

Well it seems many os us have had a not so nice week, let hope next week will be better, hugs to all, take care of yourselves.

    • Duckie 🐥 May 15, 2021 / 3:29 pm

Georgina, we need a virtual hug together. Here’s my half.

      • Georgiana May 15, 2021 / 6:31 pm

        And here’s my half Duckie
        g))))

    • Kar May 15, 2021 / 4:55 pm

On the other hand, I’m grateful that they were able to find out what was going on fairly easily and he’s already able to come home.

I feel like I’m yelling in the wind about my mother’s care. I don’t see how she complete rehab if they’re not addressing her mobility issues and what’s causing them.

  9. Duckie 🐥 May 15, 2021 / 3:46 pm

I’m inhaling Hamster’s calm and relaxedness, and trying to focus on it, because I have a horrid feeling that I’m going to have to be the one to solve my family’s huge fight.

    • Dulcie May 15, 2021 / 6:08 pm

      Duckie…🥊🥊🥊🥊need these?
