Weekend Open Thread

It’s another Caturday in the lusty month of May, and you can tell we’re getting close to summer because things are heating up in the chat room this morning. We seem to have caught Bertie and Cheshire “in flagrante delicto,” as reader Squiddy puts it.

I think my fingers are too fat to type on my phone ☹️. All kinds of typos in the above. ☹️

Yes, the caption is “In Flagrante Delicto.”

Isn’t great I have no bad news to report this weekend except maybe the unusual heat we have been experiencing.

Yesterday the mercury went up to 31.4C/88F with a humidex (that’s what it feels like) of 35C/ 95F and today will be pretty much the same, not exactly the normal weather in these parts, it should be around 20C/60F this time of year. I hope it doesn’t mean we’ll have an extremely hot summer like we did last year.

Other than that everything is great around here!
Husband is well, the Government as announced that the curfew will be lifted as of May 28th and restaurants will be able to open their terrasses the same day! I think restaurants is what I missed the most, except for seeing friends of course.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, is safe and happy.

I don’t envy those of you dealing with unseasonably hot weather, but here in England it’s been wet and chilly for days on end. A bit of sunshine would be nice, especially since I hope to finish planting out my garden next week.

In other news, I’m getting my second vaccination on the 28th. I experienced no side effects from the first one but it will be a relief to get it all over with.

Yippee Georgiana on all your good news!

These two kitties had me cracking up, all I could think of was “I will leeck you and you will enjoy it”. Reminds me of when Pebbles and Bam Bam start grooming each other. Then 5 minutes later there’s hissing, then back to grooming. It’s a definite case of I like you. No I hate you. Maybe I still like you. A little bit. Geez louise make up your mind!

Me and hubby are still hanging out in Yuma and Georgiana, it’s even hotter her. We’re talking 70s by 7 am and 99/100 by the afternoon. The only good thing is there’s no humidity but the wind has been blowing like crazy. The hotel we’re staying at is right near Old Yuma and the River Park so I at least can take walks and go explore the area. Yuma has an interesting history that I never knew about. They used to have river boats bringing goods up the Colorado from the Gulf of Cortez and Yuma at one point in the 1860s/1870s was a pretty big port town. Who’d have thunk??

We might go visit the Territorial Jail and Fort Yuma museums or since it’s not going to be super hot, take a drive out to an abandoned mine ghost town. I’ll see what hubby is up for. Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Good morning! It’s supposed to get up to 91F this afternoon; I think I will have to break down and turn on the air conditioner.

I’m trying to clean out some stuff. We get a dumpster in a couple weeks and I actually have some stuff set aside to go into it. Some of it is pieces of the shelving that was replaced in my closet when I moved in, and I don’t know why but it went into the other closet and has stayed there ever since.

I think I’m going to move it all into my car, but I might do it later tonight because I don’t want to be going up and down the stairs in the heat. Assuming they do the same as in the past, the dumpster gets dropped off at 8am, so I will tell my boss I need to come in a little late, drive over to the dumpster, unload, and then leave for work. (I could have arranged to work from home that day but it’s Monday and I prefer to be in the office on Mondays.)

Hmmm. I do feel as though I’m intruding.

So this randomly came up in my facebook ads (well, it’s facebook so it’s not exactly random, but whatever). It’s a holder for Bath & Body Works’s car fragrance disks that clips onto your visor (I have one that clips onto the vent, but they didn’t have anything nearly as hilariously adorable when I got mine.)

And in front of a window too…Bertie and Cheshire you are shameless. 😁 Shamelessly cute that is!!

  8. Duckie 🐥 May 22, 2021 / 11:46 am

Bertie and Cheshire, you keep doing what you’re doing, because it’s cute and we all need the cute.
Things have calmed down in Duckieville. Her Tiny Highness is back to normal, tummy-wise, and is being even more unbearably cute. She may be having very small seizures, but I’m keeping an eye on that.
Foot swelling going down. Calmer about family. Putting money aside for eyes. Have decided that hubby is not going to keep his promise about cleaning the den, so i’m going to start doing it myself and watch him freak out.
Covid “circuit breaker semi-lockdown” ends Monday night at midnight. Tuesday will see BC slowly working on a new normal. Restaurants will re-open, etc. I might even consider getting a bathing suit!
    Have a good weekend, everyone.

Allein, when I read your comment about the air freshener thing and saw just a hint of fur before scrolling down, I was worried that it was the rear of an animal.

  9. Carlotta May 22, 2021 / 12:10 pm

Glad things are going better, Georgiana and Duckie! I’m getting ready to go get my second vaccine shot! Huzzah! In the meantime, I feel the need to snorgle a cat…

    • dubravkamcvmd May 22, 2021 / 1:14 pm

Congratulations! It will be a huge relief.

Bertie and Cheshire–get a room, you guys! Oh, wait.

Such good news from everybody this weekend! Except for the heat. We’re managing to skip it in Colorado, thank goodness. Stay hydrated, everybody.

Another very busy work week has ended, and I’m taking an extra-long weekend next weekend, so this weekend is all about planning. With any luck, I can get started on the DIY projects that have been stalled since Labor Day. I also want to do more weaving and spinning (naturally), and finally drop off all the charity stuff that’s been sitting in my garage and living room for ages.

P.S. the Scorpycat cuddles have continued! He’s such a purr-muffin now and will even sit in the same room with me while I’m working! (This is fairly new.) I’m secretly moving his favorite scratcher-lounger closer to my chair, bit by bit, to see how he reacts.

    • Dulcie May 22, 2021 / 4:06 pm

You go Scorpycat!! You always knew you were a lover not a fighter amirite?? 😁

    • dubravkamcvmd May 22, 2021 / 5:29 pm

Moving the scratcher-lounger closer? Definitely! Press your advantage, while the going’s good!

  11. Tara May 22, 2021 / 1:51 pm

Oh Gasp! Did not expect hanky-panky so early in the morning 🤣Someone looks very unhappy to be interrupted.

Hot today and I have gardening to do. To make that task more fun, the stairs out the back door fell off last weekend and I can’t find anyone to fix them. I reattached them last summer, but look where that got us. I might have to do that again just so that I don’t have to run around from the front door every time I want to go in or out. But I’d really like to get them fixed properly.

Otherwise, no complaints. The peonies were beautiful this year and are just about done. Need to get some tomatoes, cucumbers, and other herbs in the ground.

Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend!

    Laughing.
Power back on after a ninety minute failure. Laughing because I could hear neighbourhood kids freaking that their lives were over because there was no internet.
A neighbour in my building called and asked me what else could go wrong. Hot water heater dead, then we had a leak in our unit, and then a power failure. I very politely told him to shut up.

    • Ricky & Bibi's Mom May 23, 2021 / 8:21 am

The answer to your neighbor’s question is “rain of frogs.”
