A Visit from the Three Bears

Out in the forests of Asheville, North Carolina, locals share their homes with some very precious neighbors: black bears. One resident, Patrick Conley, has been recording the bears during their frequent visits since 2017. In that time, he’s seen cubs grow up to have cubs of their own, such as Simone and her two cubs.

Conley’s quiet secluded porch lets him see the bears up close. How close? This close:

I don’t know what it is but there’s something about the way baby bears walk that makes me smile.

It is such a wonderful look at the cubbies. But OMG Mama Bear with cubs could also go wrong very quickly. I can’t look away from these sweeties but I am glad I’m not on that porch!

Oh, those babies are so little! Agree with Dulcie, this had me a bit nervous for sure.

Babies are adorable, mama is beautiful but I still wouldn’t want her on my front porch. I thought he was deep in the woods but then I noticed an apartment building in the back. Not sure I’d live that close to nature, it’s nice but I’m an city girl at heart.

Loved those adorable cubs. But being on the porch, with the bears, just seems like a bad idea to me. Even when people know their bear neighbors, things can go wrong so quickly.

I thought he was filming through a window inside the house, but it did look like he went over to the edge of the porch to keep filming when the bears were walking away, so I guess he was outside with them.

We had another bear wander through our yard on Memorial Day. I let it stick around long enough to take a couple of photos and then used an air horn to chase it away. Love seeing them but don’t want them too comfortable here. I wouldn’t mind seeing a couple of cubs like these cuties, though!

Not sure if this will work but here’s a link to the photos. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10165475668820088&id=785355087

Just seeing the thumbnails, I too thought it was a door cam or something. No, this person is out on the porch with them. Being next to a large strong fast wild predator is a REALLY BAD idea. Predator is a mother with cubs: BAD IDEA SQUARED. Lots of people have had good relations for years with large strong wild animals, and suddenly the animal snaps and attacks and maybe kills the person. Siegfried and Roy as one example. The #1 cause of death for elephant keepers is their elephants, and those aren’t even predators.

    So this is really dangerous.
