It’s time again to open the chat room, and greeting us today is the somber face of Mrs. Hattie Perkins, “a masterclass in withering disapproval” according to sender-inner jecsea. But I’m sure that deep down Mrs. Perkins is happy to see us.
Reader Muppet2171, who often shares photos of her cats, tells us about a very special dog in her life:
My sister’s dog Rambo. He’s a Mastiff mix (we think). I also think he’s a failed service dog. Why? He responds to hand signals. He once tried to drag my sister out of her apartment by her pant leg when she accidentally set off the smoke detector while cooking. And he bravely threw himself between her and a kid wielding a Nerf gun.
I say failed service dog because for all his accomplishments, “heel” is not one of them. She takes him for a walk and he makes it a run (she’s since gotten him a harness, which helps prevent him from dislocating her shoulder, so that’s nice). Indoors, when not saving my sister from spongy darts or burnt popcorn, he’s basically a barrel with legs and a tail and I love him.
Hey,
those Nerf guns can take out a, uh, well ok, nothing. Still though Rambo is a brave, brave pup and should be recognized as such.
Miss Hattie is making me question my life choices, she looks so sad/resigned about my (lack of) accomplishments.
Right now I’m sitting in Pep boys for new tires. They said that I can drop my car off and then pick it up but I’ve been burned before. Out of sight, out of mind.
You’re a good boy, Rambo. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Going to a baby “sprinkle” for my cousin’s daughter today (baby shower-lite; she already has a toddler boy, so they already have plenty of baby stuff…but it’s an excuse to get a couple adorable girly outfits). I’m not sure how I feel about being around people. Don’t know how many there will be. Only supposed to be in the 70s and sunny so hopefully we will mostly be outside.
I am going to risk Miss Hattie’s wrath by posting this fabulous video from the Olympics.
I love calling the biscuits funding.
I’m popping in from not-yet-the-end of Day 2 of a three-day conference to say THAT VIDEO is what I needed most in this moment. Thank you!
There were five dogs at the party! FIVE!
Two were my cousin’s, a Wheaten mix named Teddy and a Havanese named Gracie, one was her daughter’s (the soon-to-be mama), a terrier mix named Brody, and the others were her other daughter’s, who was up from South Carolina, a brindle mutt named Randy (who looks a bit like a small Greyhound but not as skinny) and something that looks like a miniature black lab named Cora. (Her husband said the shelter thought she was a lab but then she didn’t get any bigger than she is now at two years old, which I would guess is not more than 25-30 pounds. She’s very cute and has the softest ears. She’s kinda longish so I’m guessing she’s maybe part Dachshund and maybe part Lab or another larger breed, and her size ended up somewhere in the middle.)
Bow wow! Arf arf! Fun times! ๐๐ถ๐พ
There were also four kids under the age of 3. Mom-to-be’s older son will be 2 in October (baby girl is due in early-mid September). Her sister’s older son turned 2 last month and her younger one is about 7 months. And her husband’s sister was there with her little girl who I’d guess is about 1. All very cute.
Mrs. Hattie could give rabbits lessons in disapproval. Rambo–such a good boi! I love having a doggie visitor on Caturday. When Olive and Mabel drop in, that just adds to the fun.
Quiet weekend here: chores and hopefully warping my loom with handspun. I’ve got another ambitious project planned and have been nervous about starting it.
That is some next level disapproval. Had to take my glasses off just to be able to read the comment safely.
Duckie, how have you been feeling? Any news on the health front?
No news yet, which could be good or bad. Air quality here was apparently the worst on Earth yesterday, so not helping.
Still chugging , though.
I have N95 masks I was saving for a pandemic situation that has not arrived – yet. I plan to use them now for those days when there are enough small particulates in the air to make breathing dangerous.
Continuing the conversation from yesterday re: “because stoopid here” ๐๐…
An article I read this morning (and don’t get me wrong – stoopid has no borders!!) was about an Italian restaurant owner in Huntington Beach who was going to serve ONLY NON-VACCINATED people.
Way to go guy! Make your restaurant infection spreader central! It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so sad. โน๏ธ
I saw that guy on a CNN video with Chris Cuomo. Chris asked if he was vaccinated and he was insisting that he would ask him the same question, like he expected him to plead HIPAA or something, Chris was just like, “okay.” So of course he said he wasn’t vaccinated, and Chris said “yes I am” and then asked if his family was vaccinated, with the same response. And of course the guy said no and Chris said yes.
Idiot.
Mrs. Hattie Perkins and Rambo plus Olive and Mable what more could you want on a lovely Saturday.
Not much going on here this weekend, my husband had to go to the ER this week for another bladder infection caused by the kidney stones he still hasn’t been operated for.
A shame he had to waste almost 12 hours waiting to see a doctor at the hospital but getting an in person appointment at a clinic these days is damn near impossible, most doctors still only do appointments by phone. I must say I’m getting tired of this, I’m all for taking precautions, but how can a doctor check you properly or diagnose you by phone?
Anyway it’s too nice today to dwell on problems, I’m off to the parc to get some fresh air.
Hi, all. It’s another hot day here; welcome to Florida summers. So I am, as always, hiding indoors in the AC, as are the dogs. At least Yoofi had good playmates at the dog park early this morning so she was able to run most of her energy out; she can be a bit of a pest when she wants to go out when it’s hot, but then gets mad at Daddy for not turning the outdoors AC on! Sebastian just prefers to stay indoors, period.
I’ve been watching a bit of the Olympics, making myself get some work done, and otherwise having a very quiet week. I can tell that Miss Hattie Perkins finds my lack of energy quite reprehensible, and Rambo is a Very Good Boy, of course. Between those two and Olive and Mabel’s Olympic efforts, my weekend will be complete as soon as I watch Maru’s latest offering!
Seems like a quiet weekend here in Cutetropolis. Already met up with the car club and did a drive up and over the mountains. Thank goodness I donโt get carsick but I was starting to get a little dizzy from the twists and turns and the view over the valley. Think we were up about 5000 ft. Miss Hattie definitely would not have approved. And Rambo would be placing himself between me and the cliff edge to make sure I donโt go over. I agree with everyone else, such a good boi even if the dangers are all in his mind.
Heading out tomorrow to CO Springs to visit family for a week. I think Iโll be in your neck of the woods DebG. If you donโt see too posts from me thatโs why.
Enjoy the lovely summer weekend everyone.
AJ, you’ll be about 2 hours away from me! Wish I didn’t have to work such long hours–it would have been fun to meet up with you!
PS: I live about 5000 feet above sea level.
I like Miss Hattie’s asymmetric eyebrows! So sweet I just want to run them!
Sheesh. That was supposed to be RUB them.
#7. Barking up the wrong tree?

I would watch all these events. Happily.
