Yeah, I can still remember my ol’ Pop-Pop, the stories he’d tell. He’d set out on the boat with the men every morning before sunrise, come home with a big lobster tail in his mouth at night. We almost lost him on one of those trips. They were taking this wicked huge lobster from the traps and the thing slapped ol’ Pop-Pop ‘cross the face, knocked him clear off the boat. They scooped him up in a net, and after that he always says to me “That’s the difference between a good day and a bad day. Good day, you got lobstah in your mouth. Bad day, you got lobstah in your face.”

Beautiful picture of aq beautiful cat. Lovely that there’s a portrait of a sea-faring ancestor. Ayyup!
“The Ghost and Mrs. Meowir”
I remember that show, it always made me kind of sad that they could never get together because he was a ghost.
Ever see the movie the show was based on? I loved Hope Lange and Edward Mulhare, but Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison are not to be sneezed at.
I wouldn’t dream of sneezing at Rex Harrison.
Anyone else watch Late Night with Seth Meyers during lockdown? I wonder if Pop-Pop is the Sea Captain’s cat…
(For those who don’t watch…he was doing the show from an attic (I believe at his in-laws’ house) for a while and incorporated some random stuff found in the house, including a wooden duck, a mermaid, several copies of The Thorn Birds, and the Sea Captain portrait. It was kinda hilarious and slightly absurdly disturbing….would fit right in here, frankly. The Sea Captain was voiced by Will Forte.)
Oh Allein, ya beat me to it! 😆 This is exactly what I came to comment – I was immediately transported to Seth’s attic or parent’s home or where ever it was.
Who else was reading this in a Boston/Maine/Down Eastern voice?? Great story and great advice.
What a handsome sea captain ol-pop-pop was! My dear Clancy who lived to the wuse age of 16 was a retired sea captain. I miss that cat.
As long as we have a tub of melted butter and lemon, it’s a good day to have lobstah
I want to see kitty prank Pop-Pop.
Everything about this post is fabulous, from the photo to Mike’s story to everybody’s comments.
Well, prod me with a harpoon and call me Ishmael – that was a CLASSIC scrolldown!
