While normally this website is full of absurdly woven yarns, Cutetropolis reader Debg has a talent for weaving real yarn, and she’s just shared some photos of her latest creation, as well as the cats who immediately claimed it:
Mike, I wanted to show off three of my favorite things: my latest handwoven creation, which my cats find irresistible. Beano the tabby claimed it before it was even fulled (to fluff up and fuzz the yarn). Then I laid it on the bed after it was done for photos, knowing a cat was likely to photobomb. Sevi the tuxedo tabby did not disappoint! He’s lying on it right now, enjoying a nap until the camera sound woke him up.
Wow, Deb! I love it!
Wow so beautiful. I love the handwoven creation and the cats as well.
Absolutely beautiful, and just the right colours for my bedroom LOL! But seriously you are incredibly talented Deb!
Very talented DebG! Blanket looks so cozy and adorable cats too.
So – here’s a weird association… The first image looks like fish leather… which I am currently learning how to make in a workshop. 🙂 Even more weird, the actual fresh fish (rainbow trout), removed from the soon-to-be-leather, was offered to the three household felines – who had no interest whatsoever. !?
DebG, that is a gorgeous throw! And if I was a kitty and could lounge all day, I too would be claiming it as, “mine.”
Cats and creation gorgeous. I love the first picture!
Beautiful hand woven yarns made into pretty blankets that were cat tested. Who could ask for better approval – win, win!
Beautiful throw and beautiful kitties!
Kitty in the first pic does not look happy to be woken up by the camera clicks. But he’s on a cozy blanket so he’s not about to move to do anything about his displeasure.
This is so exciting! I never dreamed we’d be featured so quickly!
Thanks, everyone, for your lovely comments.
The warp yarns, made into fringe at each end, are all commercial. The weft yarns (cream, grey, and the purples/blues going across the throw) are all handspun. Some of the yarn was made in the 90s–it’s been waiting forever for this project.
Everything fluffed up nicely when I wet the fabric and let it spin in the dryer for a while. You can see the difference in the photo with tabby Beano (prefinishing) and all the others.
Sevi never leaves this blanket if he has the choice.
The fluffing really makes a difference.
Agree with everyone else- beautiful throw and beautiful kitties!
Oh DebG thanks for sharing that! Just love it!!
Throw Cats! 😸
Fuzziness abounds! Couldn’t agree more with all previous assessments on both throw and pusses.
I echo all the compliments!
The throw is gorgeous, Deb, and the kitties are of course equally gorgeous. What size loom do you have? I have a friend with a loom big enough to weave blankets on, and I’ve often wanted to try weaving myself — but I doubt I would have even a tenth of your talent!
I have a 26″ Baby Wolf and wove doubleweave (doublewidth style) to make this throw. That’s the secret to getting wider projects: you warp the loom for two layers of fabric, then weave them both at the same time, connecting them at one selvedge.
You’re very kind about my supposed talent. This is just a plain weave fabric, so it’s super-simple. The hard part is remembering to weave both layers! Here the yarns and colors are what make the project so visually striking and cuddly.
Cat-approved, the highest complement!
My merely human assessment is, lovely.
