Welcome to another winter weekend! The sun is shining, there’s a blanket of snow on the ground, and a ferocious snow beast is preparing to pounce. While you still have time, share what’s going on with you.

Happy Caturday! I’m actually going out to lunch! With people!! Meeting two friends which we planned to do last month but postponed because of omicron. Might stop at the outlet mall on my way back, since I’ll be passing by it. Then tomorrow I’m going to my parents’ for dinner.
Somewhere in between I need to do some laundry and dishes and maybe stop at Target.
One of my coworkers is leaving and we have a week left to learn all her stuff because who knows how long it’ll take to get someone else in (I know my boss is working on it, but still…). There are two of us plus the boss…
Such a good idea, see below for why I’ll be joining in morning scream hours. And good luck with the change over. My previous supervisor retired about 2 years ago after something like 15 years in her position and towards the end she was sending out emails on how I do this for future reference. Maybe your coworker can do that so you’ll have a written record. I find I tend to forget stuff if I try to learn it under pressure.
She has pretty thorough instructions for everything. We’ve spent a lot of yesterday just recreating some stuff from January so I’ll be familiar with it and as long as I can follow the documentation I should be okay. But she’s leaving just in time for a closing week so it’s going to be…a lot. I’ll probably log in on Sunday and get all my weekly Monday reports out of the way (since a lot of them are sort of on autopilot for me at this point), so then on Monday I can focus on the other stuff.
Ooh such a beauty. Come pounce on me and take me away. After living in my house for about a month, I now remember why I just wanted to rent. This place is turning into a mini money pit with unexpected expenses popping up.
I mean we bought it knowing the backyard/garage needed to be done, and had to get someone to look at the electrical in one bathroom. But first it was the floors. Then the existing fridge didn’t fit into the laundry room so had to buy one. Now there’s been a problem with the stove. Very odd that the burners and broiler work on a gas stove but not the bake function. Tech been out out twice thinking it was just the ignition switch but now believes it could be the motherboard. So instead of trying to fix it, time for a new stove. And since we’re buying that, might as well replace the dishwasher too since the inside trays were rusting. I had been hoping to make do with that for about a year but guess not. Oh, also discovered a weird wiring issue in the kitchen, it seems all the outlets are somehow connected to one GFI outlet. Found that out when wenblew the stove outlet fuse and couldn’t get it back on even after we flipped all the breakers. Have to reset that GFI outlet to make all the others reset. And we’re thinking of switching the stove from gas to electric that requires a new outlet. Sooo need a electrician plus a plumber for the dishwasher. Thank goodness hubby knows people from work so we get a break on the labor costs. Nothing too fun today except picking out appliances and working on the house. Thanks for letting me vent. Hope everyone stays warm and dry this weekend.
I wonder how many of us would go back to renting! Owning a house seems to be a perpetual money pit! We’ve been in our home for three decades and finally got ever fixed. But now it needs updating and remodeling! ☹️
So sorry about all these unexpected expenses–not to mention the inconvenience of having people in to look at the problem, give estimates, etc. You buy a house, you buy a money pit. At least you can choose to be a slacker landlord, instead of having no choice when you rent?
Good Morning! Beautiful kitty looks very focused. Have a wonderful lunch Allein, and AJ sorry for all the unexpected hiccups. So frustrating.
Lots of ups and downs this week but I may have finally found a vet for my Swee’Pea. My poor boy has the itches – so badly that if he doesn’t get his prednisolone every night he will scratch himself raw. Sounds straight forward until you try it. Swee’Pea will only take his pill in a freshly thawed raw shrimp that has not yet reached room temperature with the 2.5mg pill split in half again and shoved into the shrimp and mushed a little. Also, make sure your hands do not smell of anything else including lotion or soap or it renders the shrimp inedible. Half the time he pitooeys the pills out anyway. And no, there is no grabbing and pilling this cat. But we saw a new vet on Wednesday. Vet gave him a shot that has a time release of medication and lo! Swee’Pea is not trying to lick his tail off! You can see it in his demeanor, he is much calmer and is sleeping the best I’ve seen in a long time. This has been going on for over six years. We are both relieved.
It’s a beautiful sunny day in Philly and I’m headed out shortly to get whoopie pies from a good friend who vends at a farmer’s market. She makes a specialty whoopie every month and this month’s is chocolate and sour cherries. yum yum. (For local Philly folks, her stand is called Crocus and she sells at Rittenhouse square and Dickinson square. Everything she makes is delicious).
Have a nice weekend everyone!
That sounds yummy…hmmm, it’s only an hour and a half or so to Philly…
Glad Swee’pea is feeling better.
Poor Swee’Pea and poor you. Ahhh the things we do for our little angels. Glad a solution was found. And hmm wonder if your friend ships to CA, those whoopie pies sound amazing. I’m drooling over here thinking about that chocolate cherry combo.
For years my cat Beans would scratch her face raw but only in the Fall or Spring, we did the rounds of vet and medications, it would go away but it would always come back the next year. But for the last 3 years nothing, no scratching at all and we have no idea why. we didn’t change anything it just went away magically. I hope the same thing happens for your Swee’Pea.
We do love our furbabies, don’t we? Glad Swee’Pea is doing better.
Also I want that whoopie pie.
Thanks everyone for all your kind words about my Swee’Pea and my sympathies to everyone with similar problems! Jeanine, I was told to keep putting the monthly flea stuff on year round, even up here in Philly, for the same reason. Ugh.
Unfortunately Crocus doesn’t ship … *yet.* She’s only been vending officially for a year, but as we have friends around the country – there have definitely been conversations.
Tara, my Beagle is going through itchies and has practically made herself bald, (but no hot spots) on her right haunch. She got the same magical shot and is loads more comfy. Your description of Sweet Pea reminds me of our cat Junebug getting his thyroid meds in chicken that my mom-in-law cooks for him.
For what it’s worth Our excellent vet told us that it’s not getting cold enough down (the deep south) here to kill anything they pick up going to potty. And if we changed detergents (even free and clear types) that can cause skin irritation, too. Also dietary changes only improve things 5% of the time.
Tonight we are going to a bonfire and get together with actual people. Wish I could bring some of those Whoopie Pies.
They sound Amazing. Does she ship?
It was a busy week here with husband health, the catheter they had put in because of the kidney stone blowing his urethra was removed on Monday then on Thursday he started to have a low grade fever in the morning, when it went up to 101 that evening off we went to the emergency room, we thought it was a bladder infection (it was).
He called at 3 am to come and pick him up but when I looked outside there was a storm going on. It was freezing rain mixed with snow with a lot of wind, visibility was poor and there was about a foot of snow and ice pellet in the street and I’ve never driven under these conditions! Actually I don’t drive a lot even in good conditions.
Thank goodness there was nobody on the road except snow plows. We live 10 minutes from the hospital but it took me at least 20 minutes to get there and he happily took over the driving to come home. We know there are more stones in his kidneys but I hope he (and me) get a break from the hospital trips for a while.
Well that’s it for me, have a good weekend everybody!
I would enjoy the pouncing from this lovely kitty.
Hope we hear from Kar this weekend, and at the very least hope all our good thoughts help.
I finally have a plumbing estimate for my major problem, and weirdly, it wasn’t as expensive as I expected. But I need to find another plumber to get another estimate, just for comparison. Meanwhile, the bid came in from a repair person that a dear friend recommended, and again, not as bad as I thought. IOW my home improvements may not be as costly as I feared, and they’ll finally get done!!! Unfortunately, I’ll have to do a lot of sorting and moving stuff so they can actually, you know, do the work. Why do I have so much stuff???
The fun part of my weekend involves weaving (and perhaps finishing) a throw for my bio dad’s wife. It’s handspun warp in long, wide stripes of deep jewel tones (purple, green, blue, and red) with gold in between, woven with black chenille weft. It’s turning out beautifully and I finally got all the warping problems fixed. Now I can just put on a great audiobook and zone out for hours as the yarn becomes fabric. Yes, I’ll share photos of this throw and the brown and green one when I can get some.
Hugs to you all.
Feelig a liddle obtimistig this mornig. And typing the words the way I sound threw autocorrect into a fit!
Spring allergies kicked in early this year.
Our border crossing situation is scheduled to improve by the end of the month. We British Colombians are agitating to have the “no covid test required if you are vaccinated and gone no longer than 72 hours” stipulation re-applied. What’s the point in doing a brief shopping trip across the line if a significant chunk of your spending money has to go towards paying someone to shove a really long Qtip up your nose before you can come back?
I am looking to buy myself one of those electric blade scooters. Everywhere I need to go on a daily basis is less than a five minute ride on one of those things. I can even take it on the bus, if necessary. And, if hubby gets the work transfer he thinks is pending, the new site is more accessible by scooter than by car, which would destroy the unholy amount we are spending on gas.
I ALMOST gave Duckie a kiss on her head yesterday. I got to within a centimetre of that tiny feathered orb, and she started to open her beak. As I highly value my lips, I withdrew. Then she preened my hair.
Tomorrow is apparently Snuggle Sunday, so I will cuddle with pouncing kitty, metaphorically wrap one of Deb’s throws around us, and spend the day doing absolutely nothing.
Have a great weekend, everyone.
Just got back from lunch a little while ago. We got there at 1 and left at 3:30. (It was not busy and there was a brief snow squall while we were there, so we were in no hurry.) It was nice. I got a personal pizza with peppers and onions, and brought half of it home for dinner.
I decided against going to the outlets. As I was approaching I just decided “nah, I don’t feel like it.” Stopped at Starbucks instead and got a hot chocolate and went home. Realized half an hour later that I left my leftovers in the car.
My friend got me an alpaca.
It has a little light in its mouth and makes noise when you press the tail.
I used to have a sheep like your alpaca. It would poop instead of shining a light. The light sounds like a better option–something useful instead of funny. (Yes I still find poop hilarious.)
I looked, but could not find a wombat version of this. I found a number of other things both wombat related and poop related, many of which have required that I get both mind bleach and counselling. Please, save yourselves, and do not perform this search.
The only downside is the light and the noise go together. I used to have a yellow ducky one and it got a little annoying if I tried to use the light for too long (it’s handy for trying to open my door when the porch light isn’t on). He might be a little big to keep on my keys, though.
I’m not sure if this one sounds like an alpaca or not. I don’t recall them making any particular sound when I went to the alpaca farm*… actually, it kinda sounds like a duck.
*which was with the same friends; that’s where the whole alpaca theme came from…I have a little zippered pouch, some pencil toppers, socks and we all have mugs that I got a couple years ago for Christmas.
My dryer will no longer start. My home improvement projects, which included a makeover and new appliances for the laundry room, have definitely been speeded up. The current washer and dryer are nearly 20 years old, so they’ve had a good run and I wanted to replace them anyway.
But still! The inconvenience!
