Weekend Open Thread

We’re having a party in the chat room today, because April 15 was the birthday of Penny and Teller, writes reader Muppet2171 l:

It’s their arbitrarily-decided, one-in-30-odds-of-being-correct birthday! Okay… it’s probably April… based on approximately their age when I got them. I picked April 15th because SOMETHING good should be on that day besides the relief of mailing your taxes. They’ve hit the big 1-2! I’ve been owned by them for 12 years now. Here’s to 12 more!

A very happy birthday to Penn and Teller!

It’s been a big week here money wise, first we did and paid both the provincial and federal taxes. Well my husband did them since I’m hopeless with numbers.

Then I needed a new iPad because mine was over 8 years old and I couldn’t update it anymore, so off I went to the Apple store to get a new iPad and while I was there I decided to give myself an early birthday present and also bought an Apple watch!

I bought the smallest least expensive one but the $500 dollars that the Québec Government said would be sent to everybody’s bank account after we did our taxes will be most welcome!

    Have a good weekend everyone!

Happy birthday, Penny & Teller! Hope it was magical!

April 15 is also my best friend’s brother’s birthday. I’ve got my tax refund checks sitting on the table waiting to be deposited. Going to the dentist this afternoon, then I’ll do some errands and stuff while I’m out.

Been hanging onto this one for a few weeks. I’ve never wanted a caterpillar as a pet before but I’ll make an exception.

They’re gorgeous! Happy birthday and here’s to many more. And Allein, I adore that little caterpillar

Finally finished taxes yesterday and was not happy over the amount I needed to pay. Both hubby and I redid our witholdings so hopefully next year won’t be so bad. Drama with soon to be ex-roommate continues. He was supposed to come back on Tues but he extended it to next week. We figured he’s staying away because our friends and their daughter (his former boss) are coming over for Easter and doesn’t want to face them. Especially after he sent an email to the top bosses at the job they both worked at, and he almost got our friend’s daughter fired. I’ll be glad when him and all his stuff is out of here. I have a sneaky suspicion that he’s going to come get his stuff when we’re at work. And supposedly since he can’t find a place that will take the cats, he’s going to leave them with us.

Oh well, this too will pass. And this is the last time we’re going to have any roommates until our ADU/ granny flat is built, too old to deal with this much drama. Not much else is going on, grocery run today to pick up last minute stuff for tomorrow, then car club meetup later today at the malt shop. Sounds so 1950s, lol. Have a good weekend and Happy Easter to those that celebrate.

AJ I hope this less than desirable fellow leaves without creating any drama (or damage!).
And maybe the cats are better off without him!!

        I feel the same way.

I’d recommend that you change the locks, if it’s possible, and then make the almost ex-roommate set up a time to get his stuff.

I may be paranoid but I’m not sure I would trust him to take only his stuff and not something of yours, plus you won’t know where he is living so you can get the stuff back.

Sending vibes that he won’t be such a jerk and that everything will work out smoothly.

Happy birthday to Penny and Teller! Likewise, Happy Passover, Ramadan Kareem, and Happy Easter—and if I’ve missed *your* holiday, my apologies, and I wish you what you would wish yourself.

And so does Not That Bibi, the Other Bibi!

Happy birthday to these gorgeous meezers! And many, many more!

Also happy spring holiday of your choice, whatever and however you celebrate.

I’m off to get my 2nd COVID booster in a few minutes, so I’ve planned a very slow weekend in case I just need to rest. My brother and his kids left on Wednesday, after a wonderful (but exhausting) visit–it will be nice not to spend the day frantically cleaning.

It was so good to spend time with family. We hadn’t spent any real time together since 2015. My 17-year-old nephew is so much like me, it’s scary. We really connected during the visit and that makes me happy. My 10-year-old niece reminded me that cats are indeed better than kids, at least for me. She was bored most of the time, unless she was petting my Sevi and stuffing him with treats. I think he’s in treat withdrawal now.

I took vacation days on Monday and Tuesday. By Wednesday, when I was back at work, we were dealing with a lot of drama, including an employee BBQ and other big deals. It will be nice when (if) things settle down next week.

    Hugs to you all!

Thank Heavens this week is over. No details.
Happy Birthday, Penny and Teller. You don’t need to be dependents; you can be floofy aloof deductibles.
Today is baking pies and cleaning floors day. Tomorrow is a no-holds-barred family gathering. I understand there will be obscene amounts of food to satisfy even the appetites of my soon-to-be fifteen nieces and nephews, a three generation Easter egg hunt involving unholy amounts of candy, and more joy than we’ve seen in years. Not to mention all the news that we don’t know yet.
    Happy celebrations to everyone!

  7. Alice Shortcake April 16, 2022 / 3:46 pm

Considerable hilarity at the Shortcakery this morning when I decided to give a large, droopy rosebush some support by tying it to a metal trellis fixed to the wall by a previous occupant. I was so preoccupied with feeding twine through the holes I forgot just how sharp the thorns were, and before I knew it my baggy overshirt was well and truly hooked in four places. It took a couple of minutes to wriggle out of it like a cicada moulting it’s old skin, all the time hoping that no-one was watching from an overlooking bedroom window, and even now I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if this little drama eventually turns up on YouTube…In other news I’ve spent the last couple of days binge-watching “The Golden Girls”, and was horrified to realise that I am now older than Blanche, Dorothy and Rose!

    • Dulcie April 16, 2022 / 4:35 pm

They might have been “Golden” but they were very young spirit wise. Unless you count Sophia…she was more “crusty” in spirit. 😜

Happy birthday to Penny and Teller!

Happy holidays to my beloved Cutetropolitans!

Does anyone remember my fruitcake from two Christmasses ago? The one that didn’t bake in the middle and splorted all over the counter? Well, today I successfully made a streusel topped bumble berry soup to go along with it. I didn’t know that blueberries were that juicy when they baked! We’re gonna need straws for this pie!

    • allein🐾 April 16, 2022 / 8:09 pm

I just made brownies but they just came out of the oven so I don’t know how they are yet. They look good…

    • kermit April 17, 2022 / 7:48 am

You made a streusel topped bumble berry soup to go along with a fruitcake from two years ago? Are you sure the fruitcake is still good two years later? 🙂
