Weekend Open Thread

Welcome! Let’s get our Caturday started right with this video of two lovable lickers, sent in by reader Squiddy:

It’s been a while since I’ve sent over photos of my two fuzzy companions, Cheshire and Bertie, but they were upping the cuteness ante this afternoon. Of course, cats being cats, they did it in my office chair when I needed to be working. I’m sure my boss will understand why I had to miss the meeting.

Anyone else old enough to to remember the term “necking”? This looks a lot better than what I engaged in as a a teenager.

    • Georgiana May 14, 2022 / 2:33 pm

I remember the term but I was never clear on what exactly it involved and what differentiates it from just plain kissing, frenching or what we called heavy petting.

I have never owned a cat, though I have “baby sat” cats and kittens. With that and the knowledge I have gained here, it is my conclusion that a cat’s highest calling is to be annoying to their own benefit! Seriously opposite to dogs. But this duo is seriously cute!

BTW, 9 more days of school!🤩

So sweet. And better than any boring meeting. I remember necking too and I think my attempts were more awkward and leaning more towards fumbling than anything amorous.

Beautiful day on tap here in SoCal, right now it’s still cool but the forecast shows we’re supposed to hit 90 today. We shall see. Breakfast, then haircut and off to a Native Indian Pow Wow for a few hours. Still have to finish painting the dining room so probably today or tomorrow. Some good news on the BIL front with his continuing saga of trying to find a place to live. Fingers crossed but he might have a place. Finally, after being scammed, and almost scammed a few more times. What is wrong with people????? If they put just as much energy into legitimate enterprises, they’d be pretty successful. He was having me vet the places he was looking at and I was sending him updates from the real estate sites (after making sure they were real ads). Enjoy the weekend everyone.

    • Kar May 14, 2022 / 8:37 pm

I will so glad once they find a place.

Happy Caturday! We’re doing Mother’s Day tomorrow (my parents were technically out of quarantine last weekend but decided to postpone just to be on the safe side). She requested pizza and salad for dinner. I have salad stuff in the fridge and I might attempt some fudge for dessert (I have chocolate chips and a can of sweetened condensed milk).

Would you look at this? Someone sent a hamster to WeRateDogs. Outrageous.

    • 6rabbits May 14, 2022 / 2:45 pm

      😁😘

I can’t understand how people fail to follow simple directions. Fortunately, they DO FAIL and we get to reap the rewards! This little one made me scream with joy.

Quick check in. Wishing I had Bertie and Cheshire for comfort.
Seeing neurologist next week, as entire foot now numb and painful. A bit worried, as appointment was given only two weeks after referral reached the doctor’s office.
Being given appointment for heart MRI, after results of heart ultrasound were read.
    Peeps, I’m scared.

I’m sorry frightening things are happening. Are they giving you any explanation of what the possibilities are?

      • Duckie 🐥 May 14, 2022 / 1:04 pm

        Sarcoidosis

        • Dulcie May 14, 2022 / 1:20 pm

Oh Duckie. I wish I could take away your fears. So sorry you are going through this. Hugs. 💕💕

        • Dubravkamcvmd May 14, 2022 / 2:01 pm

Thanks for letting us know. I looked it up on the Mayo Clinic site. It’s sort of nerve wracking since it can manifest so many different ways. There seem to be treatments for the different possibilities. Fingers crossed that your version will be not so bad.

        • Georgiana May 14, 2022 / 2:43 pm

Yes that is scary but try to stay positive, there are treatments and we are all sending good thoughts your way.

        • Kar May 14, 2022 / 6:01 pm

          Oh Duckie,

Adding my good thoughts and best wishes to the queue.

    • 6rabbits May 14, 2022 / 2:46 pm

Praying for you Duckie! I’d be scared as well.

    • AJ May 14, 2022 / 3:53 pm

So sorry for all the medical issues you’re going through. Sending good thoughts that if it is that, that it’s mild and drs can start a good treatment plan. For me, whenever there was a possibility of a frightening diagnosis, it was the waiting that always did me in. It’s almost a relief to get a diagnosis and then be able to go ok, how to we move forward from this with treatment, lifestyle changes etc.

    • Ricky & Bibi's Mom May 14, 2022 / 5:47 pm

Bibi sends encouraging puppy kisses, and I echo her sentiments.

  6. Dulcie May 14, 2022 / 1:23 pm

Bertie and Cheshire are wonderful. They are what all the world should be. I just love them!

  7. catslave May 14, 2022 / 2:42 pm

And then one grabs the other by the jugular and they’re off and flying fur! (from my lifetime experience with kitties)

  8. Debg May 14, 2022 / 2:42 pm

Sending lots of love and support as people anticipate retirement, happy weekends, and medical appointments.

Also sending love to Bertie and Cheshire! They’re superlative at the elusive double-wash. Squiddy, how could your boss possibly mind that you missed the meeting?! Has s/he got a heart of stone????

I just got back from looking at more home builders, so I can now relax for the rest of the weekend. Some positive news on the house front: I’ve actually located a builder of townhouses, with main bedroom and laundry on the first or only floor, in locations I like, within my price range! It feels like a major step forward! Now the biggest hurdle is waiting lists. Builders aren’t releasing new lots because they are so uncertain about materials, labor, and the profits they can make. The longer they take, the more interest rates rise. But even with this (major) caveat, I feel that I’m making progress.

More hugs and love to you all.

    • Dubravkamcvmd May 14, 2022 / 2:47 pm

      That’s happy news Debg!

    • AJ May 14, 2022 / 3:45 pm

Sounds like a triple win for you. Way to go DebG! Hopefully you can get started on the new house soon.

We are have the first heat wave of the season 3 strait days of over 30C/90F heat.

Good news we found a guy to come and prune the apple tree in our back yard, the thing is getting gigantic, it takes up 1/4 of the yard and there’s a big branch going over the fence in the neighbour’s yard.

The mask mandate has been lifted here as of today except for public transport (busses/ subway/train) we’re meeting friends at a restaurant tomorrow for breakfast and I must say I’m a little nervous about all the naked faces.

Mid-60s and raining here…I just checked the weather hoping for a good window to run to the store but it says rain/showers until 11pm. My brother thinks the salad ingredients I listed aren’t much of a salad. (I have a bag of romaine hearts, a head of red cabbage, a head of radicchio, a few carrots, and radishes that I hope are still good. I suppose it could use some cucumber or pepper or onion or something…and just for his attitude I’m going to get red onion which he doesn’t like.)

      • AJ May 14, 2022 / 3:43 pm

Yum! I like the sound of your salad, it would be good enough for me.

      • Georgiana May 14, 2022 / 5:35 pm

Salads are all I can eat when it’s this hot, with maybe a little chicken or shredded cheese for protein.

Been thinking of my mother and father lately, this reminds me of why my father had TWO chairs at his desk. One for him and one for the kitties.

Never admitted it but think that he would sit in the ‘cat’ chair if she had taken the good one.

        HA! So there, cute-but-annoying-one!😂

      • Kar May 14, 2022 / 8:34 pm

Haven’t deployed it but bought a heating pad as an alterative to my laptop. Think that the siamese is more attracted to the heat as she sleeps on whichever one is charging.
