Welcome to the weekend open thread. Today’s cat photo is very special to reader Annimator, because it’s the portrait of Henry, her wonderful cat who recently passed away at the age of 19. Today’s open thread is dedicated to Henry and to all the wonderful cats who have touched our lives.

Annimator, my heart goes out to you. Henry was a very handsome fellow, I know you must miss him dreadfully. Bibi sends comforting puppy kisses.
Such a distinguished older boi. So sorry, sounds like he lived an amazing long life.
The heat has finally broken here and we’re back to relatively normal weather – 70s/80s during the day and 60s at night so I’m finally catching up on my sleep. Also, after numerous reschedulings, a miracle occurred. The a/c techs showed up! The issue is a broken switch on the air handler, part needed to be ordered so back to waiting. Not much else happening here, might go to home depot and check out their Halloween selection and start planning for this year’s spooky spectacular.
Annimator, so sorry for the loss of your very beautiful boy Henry.
I’m sorry for your loss Annimator, our fur babies always leave us too soon no matter how old they get. Henry looks like a very distinguish gentlemen and I’m sure you miss him every day just like I miss all my fur babies who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
On the home front we had a bit of a fright this week. Thursday morning my husband saw Skye the 5 month old walking around in the kitchen with something white in her mouth. We chased her to the basement and the white thing turned out to be a piece of glass from a lamp that had been shattered, there was glass everywhere!
The lamp was probably broken by Storm during the night since Skye isn’t strong enough to have pushed it off the table, we checked all the cats even Minnie just in case and luckily nobody had any cuts.
Have a peaceful weekend everybody.
Aw, he looks sweet. Sorry he had to leave you.
Gonna try to get some stuff done today. My parents left on a trip to Charleston for my dad’s Navy reunion so I’ll be low-key worrying until they text me from the hotel.
Thank you, Mike (and understanding commenters).
What a handsome boy, that Henry. He looks so contentedly in charge there–I got mine! Obviously he knew he was safe, loved, and cherished by his servants/slaves.
I was owned by Emily for 12 years:
Glamourpuss, mighty hunter of toy mice, intrepid climber of bookcases, and lap cat.
wonderful description of a special beauty.
Yes Annimator – Henry was a truly handsome and regal fellow. I’m sure across that rainbow bridge he has all the stuffed fishies he can tussle and cuddle with. In all colors!! 💕
Oh Annimator – what a beautiful and handsome boy. I’m so sorry for your loss. ❤️❤️❤️
Clean up of house that was demo-d next door is in full swing, sawing 150 year old steel I-beams started at 7am sharp. Why? Now a noisy and loud machine is moving all the bricks and intermittently shaking my house. Unpleasant feeling. Cats are rightly out of sorts. I’m headed out to run errands soon wish I could take them with me. But that would be stressful in a different way.
Wishing everyone else has a wonderful day!
Annimator, I am so sorry for your loss! {{hugs}}💙
Crazy busy week, both good and bad. Not over yet. Annimator, you had a beautiful, regal boy there.
I love that patch above his eyes, I would kiss that a lot.
Love the white mittens too.
Are you hanging in there Alice? 🤣
Yep, and I’m counting the hours until the end of this ludicrous quasi-North Korean compulsory grief-fest! It’s truly horrific to see the rehabilitation of the vile Prince Andrew, strutting about in uniform as if he isn’t still a person of interest to the FBI. And I’m still hoping that Charlie will face some tough questions over last years “cash for honours” scandal.
On a lighter note, an ill-informed journalist recently informed us that the aristocrat in charge of the lying-in-state is “descended from King Edward the Confessor”. Quite an achievement bearing in mind that Edward’s most notable trait was his lack of offspring! I’ve been trying to read a book about the family of his heir Harold Godwinson, but the strain of trying to sort out four different Sweyns, multiple Gythas, and people rejoicing in names like Thorkill Sprakalagg is taking it’s toll. My main impression of late Anglo-Saxon England is that contained far, FAR too many people with names starting with ‘Æ’.
I have paid no attention to the entire extravaganza except to be amazed at the extent of it. I’m really surprised at how many people show up to stare. It’s depressing. I understand why TV covers it all – free content, but why do so many people participate, and spend hours at it?
I live in a densely populated suburb of York. Last night I went for a walk and saw a grand total of ONE house and ONE business with commemorative pictures/posters in their windows – about the same level of interest there was for the recent Jubilee. And almost every time I go shopping I hear comments about how over-extended the mourning period is!
Hmmm. Does the popular response vary by region, or does the coverage deliberately portray the popular response as greater than it is? Is this hoopla somehow good for the Tory party?
Anni’, Ugghhh and Damn, ‘Cat/ Beloved Companion regardless of species’ passing grief just really sucks the donkey’s wang. Super sorry and super feel ya.
