Weekend Open Thread

Happy Caturday, Cutetropolitans! Hope you have a as fun day planned as these kitties sent in by reader Georgiana Y. have every day:

Skye and Storm love to cuddle together for a cat nap. If fact apart from chasing each other full speed though the house I’d say cuddling is their favorite activity.

Happy Caturday! I’ll be honest, it took me a second to see the second kitty…

Came across this the other day. Sometimes the facebook algorithm is a force for good (or at least cute).

Just Your Everyday Duck Having An Existential Crisis

It was, in all regards, an average day in Duck’s average life when he suddenly asked himself “Who am I?”.

Since then, he’s been thinking a lot about the meaning of life, wondering if there is something more for a duck than just quacking…

I could definitely join these cuties for a nap. My two decided 4:40 am was a good time to try and get me up to start a new day. Hello, it’s Saturday??? Thankfully they chilled out and let me sleep for another 1/2 hour. I may not be sprinting around later as the heat is back on here, going to be back in the high 80s, 90s for the next week. Probably hit the outlet mall today, and tomorrow, maybe (if it’s cool in the AM) take the puppers for a walk down by the water. Hope it’s cool where you are and happy weekend!

It always amazes me how kitties run around like they are on speed, and then just…stop…and flop and they are asleep!

  4. Georgiana September 24, 2022 / 10:11 am

Yes! It’s my babies again, I hope you guys are not getting too tired of seeing them 😉

Skye is growing so fast she’ll be 5 months old tomorrow, she’s not a little kitten anymore but she’s still a little monster, lately she has developed a fascination with pens, if you leave a pen unattended anywhere for even one minute she will steal it.

Allein you’re lucky there was a towel on the chair otherwise you wouldn’t have seen Storm at all, it’s really challenging to navigate the house at night and not trip on her because ambushing us in the dark seems to be a favorite pastime for her

    Have a great weekend everyone!

I had a friend who used to put a glow stick bracelet around her black cat’s neck like a collar during power outages so that she could find him. (Disclaimer: I’m not recommending this, because I don’t know if there’s anything toxic in it that could be harmful if kitty bites into it.)

      • allein 🐾 September 24, 2022 / 11:50 am

Probably not deadly, apparently, but you definitely don’t want them eating it.

LED collar seems like a better option (first result on google was one from Chewy that comes in green or blue for 20 bucks).

I won’t get tired of seeing them Georgiana!

I could *never* get tired of seeing these two beauties. They’re simply gorgeous.

  5. Duckie 🐥 September 24, 2022 / 11:57 am

Georgiana, Skye and Storm are beautiful together.
Not much happening in Duckieville, except that now I have to get myself an existential crisis duck lamp, because.
Power washing the building on Thursday absolutely FREAKED Little Duckie out, and I had to stand right beside her cage and sing to her for half an hour while our deck and walls were being done. She did not throw herself around the cage as she does during night frights, so that was a relief.
Gathering supplies for fall crafting. Preparing to start fall house cleaning. Going through last of FIL’s clothes to decide what to take to him.
Making a new cage cover for Duckie, with extra thick insulation for storms, and pockets to put hand warmers during power failures.
Making a wall hanging for FIL for pictures, using felt and vinyl sheeting. He can’t have anything sharp or heavy in his room, so we’re going to take pictures of his favourite things and put them in the wall hanging. Family meeting soon to discuss whether we wait for a room at our chosen retirement place, or completely settle him in where he is.
Off to wreak havoc on society. Have a great weekend everyone.

It is hard to gather these items Duckie. I found it was even harder taking them away again when the end came.
What a dear heart you are, to sing to Duckie during that power washing! 🎶

Sigh, I have the house and the cats to myself for a while. Husband is in the hospital with a broken leg. He tripped over something at home. A nurse called while I was typing this, and put him on. He’s very groggy. I’ll get by to see him later. He’s across town; Friday night is not a good time to have an accident! The two closest hospitals were full. The older cat (his cat) is even more confused than usual. She’s fairly deaf and blind, poor baby. The other kitty is extra sweet when I’m in distress, which is a little comfort. Thanks for somewhere to vent!
Speaking of venting, how dare they call that horrid hurricane “Fiona”! Which is what I thought I’d be posting today, instead of the rest.

    • Dulcie September 24, 2022 / 4:27 pm

Oh no Carlotta! A broken leg! That’s unfortunate. But at least it is something that should heal reasonably well. But he’ll have to be waited on hand and foot – tests one’s patience that’s for sure!

    • debg September 24, 2022 / 5:38 pm

So sorry, Carlotta. Hope your hubby will be home soon, ungroggy.

    • Kar September 24, 2022 / 6:24 pm

So sorry you all are having a bad weekend but I’m glad that hubby’s ok, kind of concerned what’s going on that’s filling up two hospitals.

Also the kitties are understandably confused but know that you’re up for cuddling later. Hopefully hubby will be able to return home too.

    • Georgiana September 24, 2022 / 8:29 pm

I’m so sorry your husband got hurt Carlotta, I’ve been out all day and just read about his broken leg Sky, Storm and Minnie are sending healing purrs.

  7. Emsthemonster September 24, 2022 / 2:00 pm

The kitties are beautiful. I will never get bored with them!

  8. Dubravkamcvmd September 24, 2022 / 2:23 pm

I’d love to see a video of the kittehs chasing each other full speed!

  9. Sowmya September 24, 2022 / 3:23 pm

Could use some good vibes from the World of the Cute… 3 months after my husband’s out-of-the-blue emergency cardiac bypass (at age 55!) and now sitting in Emergency with my 90 year old dad, hoping that his “shoulder pain” is not heart attack number 4.
    Sigh.
Nikolai Purrshkavich & Ekaterina Velikaya have been helping with healing purrs. Their concerned little faces over the last few months have brought some much-needed laughter,

    • Dulcie September 24, 2022 / 4:29 pm

Sending all the best vibes I can – hugs and more!
      Good thing for kitties! 💕😸

    • debg September 24, 2022 / 5:38 pm

We’re sending you more healing purrs, from Sevi, Fred & George Weasleycat, and Scorpius.

    • Kar September 24, 2022 / 6:25 pm

Oh geez, I hope your father’s ok, keep us posted.

    • Dubravkamcvmd September 24, 2022 / 8:22 pm

I hope you and your father get good news.

    • Georgiana September 24, 2022 / 8:30 pm

I really hope your dad is OK!

  10. Ricky & Bibi's Mom September 24, 2022 / 5:02 pm

Storm and Skye are such pretty kitties! Bibi sends puppy kisses to all who need them, and all who would enjoy them. She has shown no interest in playing with toys today. Maybe yesterday was a one-off, but at least it was a truly happy one-off.

    Existential crisis duck—I can’t even.

    • debg September 24, 2022 / 5:39 pm

I always enjoy puppy kisses. Thanks, Bibi and R&B’s Mom.

      YES. Oh very yes.

  12. debg September 24, 2022 / 5:44 pm

Almost missed the open thread for the second week in a row! Obviously my priorities are all screwed up!

Last weekend was my trip to Chicago for my friend’s daughter’s wedding. A fabulous trip all around, though it was hard to leave my babies even for a few days. Scorpius seemed especially happy to have me home–he’s been eager to cuddle when I’m in bed (and don’t have legs).

This weekend, I resume unpacking. It’s entirely possible that I have too much furniture in my living room, so trying to get things sorted feels like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

    Hugs to you all.

  13. Kar September 24, 2022 / 6:28 pm

Hope that everyone is having a good weekend, know that RL has a tendency to interfere.

Really annoyed earlier, had to race out the door to keep the bratty kitten inside and thought that I had my keys in my bag, of course I didn’t.

So went to the office for the spare to be told that oh, we only have access to one box of emergency keys, not the other, we’ll be able to get to that on Monday. Monday!!

So coughed up a lot of money for a locksmith and send a (for me) scathing email to the manager asking why we give emergency keys if we can’t use them for emergencies!!

    • Dubravkamcvmd September 24, 2022 / 8:31 pm

      Wow that’s infuriating!

    • Debg September 24, 2022 / 8:55 pm

grrrrr Glad you could get back inside.

    • allein🐾 September 24, 2022 / 9:03 pm

Why are there two boxes if they can only get into one?

      • Kar September 24, 2022 / 10:16 pm

Exactly. The gate attendant didn’t even know that there was another box of keys.

Try to never shut the door without the keys in my hand but this kitten is driving me crazy. Getting her back inside is such a hassle, I really hope she outgrows this nonsense.

  14. Carlotta September 25, 2022 / 12:55 am

Thanks for good wishes, and sending out same! R & B’s Mom, please give Bibi’s newly appreciated toy an extra toss for me!
