Anyone else slightly bothered by naming rescued pets after the thing they had to be rescued from? I mean, I know the animals don’t know the difference, but….

That naming option doesn’t bother me. If anyone asks the origin of the name, you have a great story to tell (“this is one of the good things that came out of that event”; “we lost almost everything, but we found and saved this animal”). If no-one asks, it’s a reminder to you of the good that came out of a bad situation.
I do think it depends on the name. There are a lot of dogs and cats named “Storm” because of their color, not their origin. I have mixed feelings about common people names being used for pets.
I’m curious how many humans born during hurricanes or tropical storms are named after the event. I’m sure that happens too.

I completely agree about having a great story to tell about the origins of a pet’s name. That is so wonderful! But I kind of like common people names for pets too — not for every pet, it would depend on their personality. The farm next door has a German Shepherd Dog called Chuck. And I really like that there is a place in this world for a GSD called Chuck!
Our dog (Dusty — called this because of his colouring) has a BFF called Allan (a red doodle). At home, Allan has a brother (a cat) called Steve. Yes, both named for the marmot video of Alan/Steve. And I love this too.

I love that little duckling who keeps sliding down the doggie’s coat. Gravity my friend.

That cuddle puddle with ducklings has melted my brain. Have to save everything else for later, if I can still read.

Pumpkin and Spice and Miss Holly are gorgeous. The puppy and ducklings are peak sweetness. I wish they could stay that way.

Puppy and ducklings made my brain go splort, followed by my heart. Then there’s the rescuers in FL, the spotted kitten and her sissy, plus a peahen? So much sweetness today. I have a to-do list people!! How am I supposed to get anything done now.
And for those that haven’t heard, Hillbilly Heaven got a new member today. Miss Loretta Lynn passed at 90. I’m just heartbroken, she was one of my favorite singers.

Yes she was one of the good ones. Such an undeniably beautiful voice. Even if you don’t like country.
Now this is a Pumpkin Spice thing I can go for!

May she rest in peace.
My favorite political blogger wrote a lovely piece about her:

Ducklings and puppy sleeping together, mass hysteria.
Dalmatian kitten is so beautiful!
I’m crazy in love with her.
Miss Holly the peahen is such a sweetie! When she was tiny, and cuddled into her mom for comfort, I almost swooned.
Thanks be to dog for the people who realize that our pets are family, even in a hurricane.
