Weekend Open Thread

Good morning, Cutetropolitans, and welcome to the open thread. Word of warning, though — today’s visitor from reader Georgiana Y. will claim your hand:

Storm and Skye have gotten a lot of attention since we adopted them this summer but it doesn’t mean that 16 year old Minnie is being neglected. She is very spoiled and usually gets whatever she wants, as an example here she wanted to take a nap using my hand as a pillow and of course I let her.

I’m so envious of you Georgiana!

  2. Georgiana November 26, 2022 / 8:54 am

Minnie napped in my hand lasted 20 minutes that time, unfortunately an urgent hitch she had to attend to put an end to the nap LOL!

Today I’m finally giving in and I’m going to the Apple Store to buy a new iPhone SE to replace my iPhone 6s who just can’t keep up anymore, I hope there won’t be too many people, wish me luck!

    Have a good weekend all!

    She can have my hand.

Hope all the USians had a good holiday. Just hoping my milk lasts through Monday so I don’t have to go to any stores this weekend. This is my work-on-Sunday week; I was off yesterday but logged in to run one thing so I could get any errors fixed, just logged in to do the same today (as I usually do on this Saturday)…except the person who fixes them never answered me…I hope she’s around today, or else I guess I’ll find out what happens if there are outstanding errors on Sunday (which hasn’t happened yet). Once the error is fixed I have to wait until the next day to rerun it so it will be missing from the data tomorrow if she doesn’t do it today. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Other than that…there’s laundry ‘n’ stuff.

    I need a car with a rear wiper…

      That is SO cute!

        There are cat versions, too.

    • DEBG November 26, 2022 / 11:50 am

      Yeah, me too. That’s fantastic.

That is a very sweet-looking cuddly cat!
Peeps, I am now a guinea pig parent.🙄 It is my niece’s youngest gp who had turned into a “don’t pick me up leave me alone” pig. So he wasn’t getting much attention anymore. He’s a little over a year old I think. I am now his parent because he actually let me pet him, pick him up, and hold him. My sister was flabbergasted! My previous forays into gp parenthood 20 years ago ended with pigs who lasted between 1.5 and 2.5 years.☹️ So, anyone with gp info or advice, PLEASE let me have it. And cross your fingers. His name is Mushroom and is ginger and white sleek fur.

The only thing I know about peegies is that they apparently do better in pairs…

      • 6rabbits November 26, 2022 / 10:31 am

This is a male and no one will neuter a gp. Females get along together, but if you get a male you are either stuck or have LOTS of babies. In my area unfortunately we only get MALE animals—no matter what species. It is the pet stores’ way of not having to train anyone on how to sex animals! Seriously.
But apparently males can be happier if alone, esp if they were aggressive. Mushroom constantly chased the other gp they have.

          🙁

    Yes. Pairs. Very definitely.

Minnie is gorgeous ad I’m very familiar with the “can’t move, have a cat/dog on me” maneuver. They look so sweet and adorable, which makes up for all the times they’re being little brats, lol. No advice but congrats 6Rabbits on being a peeg parent. Maybe see if there’s a gp rescue or club/society in your area that can help you out.

After about 6 months, my dining room is finally painted!! Letting it dry and after cleaning the floor, furniture will be moved in tomorrow. Then just need to hang curtains and pictures. After that, my final project (for now, lol) will be finishing the small bathroom. Figure I can finish that over Christmas break. Lots of errand running today. Hubby’s Apple watch is not charging so need to see if it can fixed or he might be getting an early Christmas present.

Minnie *should* be terribly spoiled. She’s earned it, at 16 with 2 youngsters in the house. Gorgeous girl. Reminds me of my beloved Madeleine, who was also a snuggler.

I’m about to re-enter the studio with kitten Maribel. Our isolation strategy reminds me why it’s so good that Scorpius can now interact with his brothers! It’s a pain! But necessary to keep everybody healthy. She’s getting introduced to one room at a time. Now that she’s discovered all the fun of the great room, she wants to be there all the time. Needless to say, it’s hard to knit when she’s on the loveseat with me: yarn batting, yarn chewing, getting tangled up in the circular needles. I’ll send a photo to Mike since I’m not on social.

Hope the USians are enjoying the long weekend. I’m really glad to have this time at home with the kitties, old and new.

I’d love to have a cuddly cat like Minnie. All of mine were a bit stand-offish.

It’s been an emotional roller coaster at the Shortcakery for the last few days. Early on Thursday morning my dad was taken into hospital with breathing difficulties, and when I visited him that afternoon his breathing had improved but he was very confused (this always happens when he’s in an unfamiliar place). On Friday I was horrified to find him barely conscious, as white as a sheet and unaware of my presence – he had a chest infection and was being treated with antibiotics. The doctor took me aside and told me to expect the worst as dad was probably too old (89) and frail to survive for much longer. I stayed awake all night expecting a phone call, which didn’t come until this morning…to tell me that he was much better! When I saw him this afternoon he was sitting in a chair and able to talk fairly rationally, although he’d lost track of time and thought he hadn’t seen me for weeks. I’m not getting my hopes up too far but it looks as though he might be coming home after all!

Sending virtual hugs to you and your dad.

    • Dulcie November 26, 2022 / 12:27 pm

Hugs from me too Alice. 💕 Hoping he’s comfortable.

    • Dubravkamcvmd November 26, 2022 / 1:18 pm

Wow. You must be disoriented too. I hope your father continues to mend.

    • DEBG November 26, 2022 / 3:59 pm

Sending you both hugs and healing purrs. I hope you’re taking care of yourself through all of this. Your dad is in good hands, so you need to be good to yourself.

    • Georgiana November 26, 2022 / 5:17 pm

I do hope your dad gets better and can come home for the Holidays.

    • Ricky & Bibi's Mom November 26, 2022 / 6:35 pm

Sending best wishes to you and your dad from NYC, from Bibi and me. Here’s to drama *on* stage, not off.

  9. Duckie 🐥 November 26, 2022 / 12:45 pm

    Happy weekend.
Minnie, I have two hands to share with you, if you like.
All here in Duckieville are exhausted. The mall had Black Friday sales out the whazoo, and the crowds were terrifying. I actually got yelled at in the parking lot because I wasn’t headed to my car to leave and let someone have my spot. Hubby had to rake soggy leaves, and shoppers were arguing over who would get every parking spot he was cleaning. And poor Little Duckie, who stayed home, had the tiny wits scared out of her by the fire alarm going off for no reason.
Parents and older sister’s family all have flu; non-vaxxers. Younger sister’s family under the weather with something; also non-vaxxers. Hubby and I are fully vaxxed, but I can’t go near the others, because I’m having a minor flare up and my body doesn’t need the threat stress. And hubby won’t go near them, either, for the same reason.
FIL’s “wife” (she kicked him out several years ago, but refused to get a divorce, so she could access his money) was told by seniors home doctor that a family meeting was scheduled for everyone to come in and discuss his situation, but she refused to tell anyone. Hubby got a call from the doctor asking why we weren’t there, and it ended up as a long conversation as they had the meeting by phone. Thankfully, “wife” has been removed from the call list, and hubby and I are first. I sometimes wish I could have some alone time with that woman, so I could explain to her how life really works. I’d have to restrain and gag her, but that would be fine. I’ve never known anyone as selfish as this woman.
Anyway, FIL not doing well, but is stable. Hubby told doctor what end of life decisions had been made, and FIL will be staying in the home where he is. Unfortunate, but a transfer to another place now would not do any good for the poor man.
Alice, my sympathies to you with your dad.
Off to do laundry by hand, dishes and stuff. Have a great weekend, everyone.

    • Dulcie November 26, 2022 / 2:12 pm

Take care Duckie. Rest and relax if you can!

    • DEBG November 26, 2022 / 4:02 pm

Hugs and healing purrs to you too, Duckie. So sorry for all the worry, aggravation, etc. Take care of yourself through all this.

    • Ricky & Bibi's Mom November 26, 2022 / 7:45 pm

I can’t even imagine. Hang in there, Duckie. Bibi and I send you strength and puppy kisses. Guess which one of us sends which!
