Maribel could teach acting. Wide-eyed innocence – “Oh, did you want to sit here?”. Disguising rising impatience with pushy human – “Oh, did you want this blanket?”.

She may be temporary but she is still a cat.

MLTB is a beautiful yet spunky looking kitty! Just love that fur coat.
Anyone doing anything special tonight? Hubby and I will just snack and watch movies and try to make it to midnight lol. 🥳🎉

  4. Georgiana December 31, 2022 / 10:14 am

Miss Tabby Brown is certainly a cutie and with that innocent look I’m sure she gets anything she wants.

After a 3 year gap I’m so happy that tonight we can finally go back to celebrating the New Year in person with our old friends. There will be lots laughing and eating and clinking of glasses at midnight and drinking to peace in the world.

    Happy New Year!

  5. AJ December 31, 2022 / 10:18 am

Gorgeous!! Love her markings and her eyes. She’s the picture of innocence.

Not much going on here. Bathroom wallpaper going up today, then it will mostly be done. Still deciding if I want to add a faux tin ceiling but that’s easy enough to add later. Heading to the car show, see if we can find our new car. Insurance paid off the other one and there should be some left over to use as a down payment. It’s supposed to start raining here later no plans for New Year’s, probably won’t make it to midnight, lol. Fingers crossed it will be too wet for people to light off fireworks and/or guns and it will be quiet. Happy 2023 everyone!

    • Dulcie December 31, 2022 / 12:22 pm

Oh yeah I almost forgot about fireworks. Always a stressful time for fur babies.

  6. allein 🐾 December 31, 2022 / 10:35 am

    She’s so pretty!

I have no plans. Usually I go to a friend’s house but she hasn’t said anything and frankly I’m okay with that. It’s foggy and wet; not raining at the moment but the hourly forecast says it’ll start again in the 2pm hour and go until midnight (is it bad that I’m hoping it rains enough to prevent people from setting off fireworks?). Next week is closing week at work so I have to work (from home) tomorrow. We’re off on Monday and I’m going to try to not have to do anything then (depends how much I get done tomorrow, but we have a few extra days to finish closing because of the holiday so I’m not going to go crazy over it). Otherwise I plan to do some chores and clean up my yoga space so I can start Adriene’s 30 Days of Yoga program for 2023 next week (she does one every January). More info here if anyone wants to join me.

Other than that, I have some chicken to cook, some vegetables to turn into a salad, some brownies to eat, and Matilda on Netflix to watch.

Love that kitty Allein. Happy Mew Year.

    • Tara December 31, 2022 / 1:17 pm

oh! Thanks for the yoga reminder Allein. I’ve always wanted to try her programs. Will give it a shot. 🙂

Miss Lav is actually on my lap in the first photo. I’m wearing grey pants, sitting on a grey chair, so it’s hard to see my legs. And as you all probably know, she’s permanent now! Even more cuddly than when those photos were taken!

I’m trying to use my left hand, gently. The fingers are stiff from three days of immobility. Typing is good for them. Weaving and maybe spinning should be okay. Knitting requires tiny movements of my left wrist as I grip a needle, so maybe not.

We’ll celebrate tonight with good TV, and hopefully some making! I’ll either watch the new Knives Out movie or start House of Dragons if Amazon delivers early enough. First New Year in the new neighborhood; it may or may not involve firecrackers, but I’m hoping not. Many of my neighbors are older than me, and there’s an assisted living home right next door.

    Happy new year, everyone!

    • Dulcie December 31, 2022 / 12:27 pm

Did you leave the word “out” after making? 🤣🤣
Sorry about your hand. Hope it is better soon. Frustrating disability for crafters!!
PS…I am assuming you meant baking. 🤪

      • DEBG December 31, 2022 / 1:15 pm

Neither baking nor making out! I’m way behind in all my yarn-related projects.

        • Dulcie December 31, 2022 / 5:14 pm

🤣🤣 Oh well, there’s still probably a certain amount of “satisfaction” to be had after catching up on projects! 😁

  8. Murray Callahan December 31, 2022 / 11:22 am

What a a gorgeous pussycat! I wish I could have a cat but my boyfriend my is terrified of them, so will have to wait. I’m in no hurry, however – Fergus, though almost 9 – is an active, sweet, reasonably healthy bun.
Happy New Year to all. I’ll be up til past midnight – I always am – but poor hubster with his Parkinson’s will not. He has a lot of pain due to various spine issues and is pretty disabled so spends a lot of time in bed, though he does exercise.
Please, people feeling free about partying – we managed to avoid several near occasions of infection by not attending gatherings. At one, every adult there got sick. I keep hearing about other folks having celebrated the holidays with family – everyone got sick. So, three things – masks, good ventilation, and distancing. And have fun!😜

  9. Duckie 🐥 December 31, 2022 / 11:58 am

    Happy New Year’s Eve.
Miss Lav knows who’s in charge at your place, Deb. And it ain’t you. (PS scarves were received with great joy and put on immediately. So much thanks.)
Job is finished, thank goodness. I made enough to pay for the new washer with some left over, so I’m getting some new books.
Hubby got me a foot warmer for Christmas, which will go nicely with the books.
Built Duckie a play room on shelf under her cage. She uses her bendy ropes to get there, and all her toys and some treats are inside. It was suggested that I give her something new to focus on, that would make her feel a bit insecure, which should stop the egg laying for a bit.
I, too, hope for a quiet night. Will be sleeping on the couch until noise is over, to keep Duckie calm.
Have a great day, everyone, and see you next year.

    • Dulcie December 31, 2022 / 12:30 pm

      Same to you Duckie. 🎉

    • DEBG December 31, 2022 / 1:22 pm

Those scarves were fun to make. I’m glad they’re fulfilling their purpose.

  10. Lar December 31, 2022 / 12:37 pm

    Happy New Year everyone!

May 2023 be a great year of opportunity and joy.

  11. SoccerSue December 31, 2022 / 12:38 pm

Happy New Year, fellow Cutetropolitans! I’ll be spending the evening at home, hiding under some blankets and hoping 2022 doesn’t have any more awfulness in store for me.

My mom passed away on Nov 17th, after battling lymphoma for the third time. Those with good memories may recall me telling you about how she almost died in August when the tumor started bleeding. After that she bounced back and forth between hospital and nursing home, only getting to go home for about a week before having more complications. Anyway, I’ve spent the month of December settling her estate, which was time consuming but not too difficult since she was very organized and I’m her only heir, and getting her apartment cleaned out, which was very difficult since hubby’s back is bad and I had to do most of it myself. I did have a good friend help me out several times, but with working 40 hrs/week, it still took the whole month to get things boxed up, donated, etc. And selling her furniture, which was kind of a nightmare because of all the scammers on FB, etc. We ended up taking a lot of it back to our house, so it currently looks like a furniture store exploded in here.

Anyway, here’s hoping for better things in 2023. It couldn’t be worse than 2022 (she says confidently, tempting fate). 😛

    • DEBG December 31, 2022 / 1:19 pm

Sue, if you’d mentioned your mother’s death, it slipped my mind. So sorry for your loss, though I’m sure there was also some relief that she’s no longer suffering.

Settling estates can be so hard, especially when you’re working. I have a friend back in New York City, from 30 years ago, who runs a small business for estate clearance, just so the families don’t have to go through all the memories at an already-painful time.

Hoping your new year brings a lot of joy and fun, especially after all the difficulties of 2022.

    • Emsthemonster December 31, 2022 / 2:19 pm

I’m so sorry for your loss, Sue.

    • Dulcie December 31, 2022 / 5:17 pm

Awww. Sue. 💕 That was one tough road and a particularly awful December. Hope you can find some peace and healing in 2023.

    • Dubravkamcvmd December 31, 2022 / 7:31 pm

I sympathize with your loss. I also sympathize with your experience dealing with her estate. My mother died in 2016 and my sister and I weren’t finished with the estate until 2018. It all takes up a lot of emotional space.

  12. Tara December 31, 2022 / 1:16 pm

yeah – THAT is a foster fail, for sure! Ms. Lavender Brown – you know where it’s at. Oh boy, what a cutie pie. What happened to your hand DebG? I missed that. Wishing you good healing though, not having the use of the hands is the worst – especially for crafty people. 😉
I’m back from SoCal, for the holiday visit – which was typical with all the drama. Sadly this time, major freakout happened right at the end of the visit so I had to leave on bad terms. Otherwise the visit was pretty good. Got to spend a lot of time with niece and nephew – crafting and playing games. There are some pretty good new games out there. I bought them Avocado Smash, which is like Slap Jack – but there are cards where you have to yell, “Guacamole!” which is just a fun word to shout out loud. We also played Ice Cool where you have to flick little penguin pieces around a “board.” This game gets little kids all kinds of riled up. It was fun, but loud, and I don’t recommend for people who do not want to have to move around the gaming table. The last game we played was Ticket to Ride – which is great to teach kids geography. You have to build train lines between major US and Canadian cities.
Now I’m home in rainy Philadelphia with a phone that won’t turn on and a cold. But it’s quiet. The cats are happy I’m home, and I am too. Wishing you all a happy 2023. ❤️

    • DEBG December 31, 2022 / 1:22 pm

She’s an adoption win, not a foster fail! I slipped on the ice on Wednesday, bruising my hand quite badly. It’s still a little swollen but improving.

Sorry about the cold and the freakout with family. Hug those kitties! Their purrs have healing powers.

      • Tara December 31, 2022 / 3:25 pm

Ah yes, adoption win! Much more appropriate.

Sorry again about your hand. Really glad it’s not broken!

  13. Alice Shortcake December 31, 2022 / 2:08 pm

    Happy New Year, Cutetropolitans!

It will be a rather strange new year for me after my dad’s death earlier this month. I’ve been kept busy throwing out unwanted furniture and giving away the better quality stuff, which has involved wrestling some heavy, unwieldy items down a narrow staircase. Just as I was congratulating myself for not injuring my back or accidentally scraping off any wallpaper I carelessly left the front and back doors open on a windy afternoon, thereby causing both of them to slam to with an almighty crash…and with my right index finger trapped in the front door. Said digit is still badly bruised and throbbing but not broken.

On a more positive note, I’ve been heartened to discover that my worries about the expense of upgrading the Shortcakery were groundless – the cost of new floorcoverings, furniture and bathroom renovations will be less than half of what I was expecting. Which is a good thing, because when it’s finished (hopefully before my birthday in February) I’ll have to live VERY frugally for the next three years until my pension kicks in.

    • DEBG December 31, 2022 / 3:47 pm

Ouch! I’ve been icing my wrist as much as I can to bring down the swelling. Will that help your poor finger?

And congrats on the good upgrade news.

    • Dulcie December 31, 2022 / 5:21 pm

Alice…are you sure someone didn’t fail math here? I can’t believe it would cost LESS! But go with it!!
Yes I am sure your Christmas was quite different this time around – and 2023 as well. But it sounds like good things are happening. Except for that excruciating finger thing OMG!!

      • Alice Shortcake December 31, 2022 / 6:24 pm

Yes, it really will be that much cheaper than I was expecting – partly because I’d wildly overestimated the cost, partly because I came across some huge reductions in the Christmas/New Year sales!

Something else I’m looking forward to when the upheaval is over: fostering animals. After over six years without pets I can’t wait to have furry friends again.

The squashed finger seems to be on the road to recovery after its ordeal, much to my relief. It helps to have a full complement of digits when you’re shifting furniture and painting walls.

  14. Emsthemonster December 31, 2022 / 2:22 pm

Miss Lav is beautiful (and her blanket as well). I’m glad she became part of DebG’s family!

I’m at home trying to calm my sweet kitties, 3 out of 4 are afraid of the fireworks/firecrackers.

    Happy mew year to everyone!

    • DEBG December 31, 2022 / 3:47 pm

Hugs to you and all the kitties. Hopefully they’ll recover quickly from the shocking noise.

  15. Carlotta December 31, 2022 / 5:59 pm

Pouring rain here, so no fireworks! I was invited to a New Year party— by my 8 year old great niece. I think nephew was relieved when I declined!

    • allein🐾 December 31, 2022 / 6:01 pm

I’ve heard two booms already. It’s only 6:00.

  16. allein🐾 January 1, 2023 / 12:03 am

Okay, it’s 12:02. That’s enough with the fireworks.
