Weekend Open Thread

Welcome to the first open thread of 2023, Cutetropolitans! Here to greet us is Teller, looking very intrigued, says reader Muppet2171:

Staring at something just over my shoulder. Probably the ghost that Penny likes to yell at for no reason.

Siamese cat rests on bed
Happy New Year!

My little pudgy boy loves Kermit! …or wants to make a call. Don’t have the heart to tell him it’s not connected.

Cat looks at toy telephone shaped like Kermit the Frog
I dunno, being green looks pretty easy to me.

That face!

Closeup of cat face, eyes dialated wide
must… get… Kermit…

Teller wanted me to convey that if he actually cared, he’d be honored at being selected for the first Weekend Open Thread of the year.

His mommy is getting over Covid tho. Utterly ruined Xmas. Almost gone tho. So that’s nice.

    • DEBG January 7, 2023 / 11:12 am

So sorry about the COVID. I’m glad you’re almost better. And Teller’s uncaring honor made me laugh.

    • Dulcie January 7, 2023 / 11:17 am

Oh no! That’s terrible. But you’re not the only one!
That “uncaring” comment reminded me of the popular saying “If cats could text, they wouldn’t”. šŸ¤£

Teller is gorgeous as usual and I’m in agreement with him, mustā€¦ getā€¦ Kermitā€¦

I’m happy the holidays are finally over and I can go back to hibernate in my cave like the introverted shy grumpy bear that I am.

Nothing much on the agenda for today, I have to go to the pharmacy to get my meds and then to the store to return boots that I bought on Monday because after wearing in them for not even an hour I found the zipper on the side digs into my ankles.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

You can usually find a Kermit phone on ebay. That’s where I got mine. šŸø

Teller is just sooo handsome. And Penny is just keeping the ghosts in place to protect you. Sorry you had Covid Muppet, especially at Christmas. Being sick at holidays just sucks.

Finally replaced the vehicle we totaled last month, picked out a shiny dark red pick-up truck. Good thing about shopping around the end of the year is lots of incentives and deals. We’re actually paying less than the other vehicle. My budget is happy about that since other costs keep going up.

Boring but busy day today (is that an oxymoron?). Spending the morning waiting for a tech to come look at hubby’s recliner that certain functions mysteriously stopped working about 3 weeks after it was delivered. I’m positive it’s just a loose wire somewhere but I couldn’t see it. While waiting, we’ll be taking down and putting away the Christmas decorations now that the deluge has stopped (for the moment) and our yard isn’t so muddy we can finally get out to the storage shed. Then haircut and grocery shopping later today. Happy weekend and Merry Orthodox Christmas to anyone celebrating

Happy New Year Teller! It is aways lovely to see your beautiful eyes on a Saturday morning. Muppet – sorry to hear you had COVID – glad to hear you are recovering well.

Friends, I’ve had the ultimate 21st-Century-week-of-hell. My phone died last Saturday and on Sunday I lost my voice (laryngitis). Not having a phone, which before this week I would have claimed I’m not overly dependent on, has been really tough. My dad’s 83rd birthday was Thursday and I couldn’t talk to him. šŸ˜¢ And I can’t access my work email from home – or my property security cameras because of two-factor authentication. I’ve been trying to deal with Google to get it fixed and hoo-boy. When I went to their suggested fix-place I found two other people with the same phone (Pixel 4) who were in the same boat. Their phones also suddenly quit on Saturday morning around the same time, no explanation. Google offered them 20% off a new phone and they took it. I don’t have that luxury. The Better Business Bureau has been contacted, but I’m still in a jam. The place I ultimately took it to, said they got it running, but that the replacement screen that was sent was also broken, so they are waiting for a new one. Monday is what we’re hoping for. I hope all-a-y’all’s 2023 is off to a better start! Thank you for the cute this week Mike, I have really needed it. šŸ„° ā¤ļø

Oh Tara what frustration. I abhor the whole phone business – they sure have us by the short and curlies. Grrr.

  5. DEBG January 7, 2023 / 11:21 am

Hmm, sounds like 2022 ended with a whimper for several of us. Tara, good luck with your phone situation–that sucks. AJ, congrats on the new vehicle. Georgiana, I share your introversion.

Just learned from one of my fiber stores that today is Distaff Day, the day after Epiphany (aka the 12 days of Christmas) when medieval European women would resume their normal spinning and textile-related activities. If all goes well, I’ll celebrate with some creating! And maybe even deliver my newest handwoven throw to its recipient! After I get some good photos, I’ll share a link.

Other than that, it will be a quiet day and weekend: errands and chores, sampling for the next woven throws, etc. The wrist is still not back to normal, but I need to keep working it gently. It may even be warm and dry enough for a walk today, which would be lovely!

    Hugs to you all.

      Interesting piece of history DebG!

  6. Duckie šŸ„ January 7, 2023 / 11:54 am

Sounds like the first week of 2023 belonged to 2020.
Penny and Teller, Iā€™ll imagine youā€™re hugging me today.
Didnā€™t get paid for last work period. Boss on vacation. Temp looking into it.
New TV/internet/phone setup to learn. I HATE change.
Seeing new doctor next week. Finally! First time in over a year since old one retired. Hubby complained that I made appointments for his day off. I lost my temper and said fine, Iā€™ll cancel the appointments and make mine for a day when heā€™s working and he can schedule his own dā€”n appointments from now on!
    Aarrgghh!
    Forced mood change.
Planning deck garden for this year. Iā€™m going to try to grow as much as possible, to try and offset prices in stores. Head of lettuce is five dollars. Head of cauliflower is almost nine.
Duckie is aggressively exploring lately. Very amusing to watch her kill new things.
Off to put tree away, defrost freezer and try to rehome a lift recliner.
Try to have a good weekend, everyone.

    Happy Caturday, Teller!

Went to my friend’s after work last night for dinner and hung out for a while. Didn’t get home until almost midnight. Slept in this morning, but I am determined to get some chores done. My house is getting out of hand and I can’t stand it.

Speaking of doctors, I finally have my appointment with the endocrinologist coming up on Friday. Not sure what to expect but I’m hoping it will at least help tamp down my anxiety level, which has been very high the last several weeks. If I was one of those people who clean when they’re stressed, my house would be spotless. Alas.

Here’s some encouragement for whatever you’ve got going on this weekend…

    • Duckie šŸ„ January 7, 2023 / 12:32 pm

      Thanks, Allein. That definitely helps.

    • DEBG January 7, 2023 / 8:22 pm

Yes please. Where can I get my baby capy?

    • Dubravkamcvmd January 7, 2023 / 9:39 pm

      OhIā€™d love one!

  8. alleinšŸ¾ January 7, 2023 / 1:42 pm

    Snack time.

    • Murray Callahan January 7, 2023 / 5:47 pm

      Gag me with a peanut!

So sorry for Cutetropolitans who are having a tough time, I get it! Tara, thatā€™s terrible about your phone – weā€™ve become so dependent on them to do so much! Heck, I start the day checking on the outside temperature so I B know what to put on!
I keep decorations up into February – I love them, get so much pleasure from them. At some point it becomes clear itā€™s time to pack them away, so I will listen to that siren call and then act.
Happy New Year, may you all do well and get by with the least amount of trouble and angst.

      • Dulcie January 7, 2023 / 5:59 pm

I just adore my outside lights at this time of year so they stay on for a bit. Takes a cheerful bite out of the darkness!

      • alleinšŸ¾ January 7, 2023 / 8:50 pm

My complex requires holiday decorations to come down by January 10th. But I don’t put anything outside (since I have no outside space of my own); I have a snow family in my living room window and this year I put a snowman ornament on my door (he’s a flat wooden ornament, about 5 inches tall; I was looking through my boxes that my dad got down from the attic for something different to put up, since I’ve been putting up the same Santa thing for the past several years, and I thought he’d be cute on the door). He doesn’t really say “Christmas” so much as Winter, I think, so he’ll stay up for a bit longer.

    • DEBG January 7, 2023 / 8:21 pm

It’s important to put a peanut on EACH side, so you don’t tip over.

      • alleinšŸ¾ January 7, 2023 / 8:51 pm

        Balance is key.

    • alleinšŸ¾ January 7, 2023 / 8:51 pm

      Pretty! I love the color.

    • Dulcie January 7, 2023 / 9:32 pm

      Very very nice DebG!!

    • Sedro6 January 7, 2023 / 9:57 pm

      Very sophisticated.
