Weekend Open Thread

It’s Caturday, so let’s start our weekend with some cute cats from readers. First, Georgiana Y. shares a glow-up and a show-off:

This is Skye in the bathroom sink at 3 months and at 11 months, I can’t believe how small she used to be.

Kitten in bathroom sink
Just add water, and…
Same cat in same sink, now older and larger.
POOF! All grown up!

As a bonus here is Storm losing her mind on the cat tree. The sun is making her black fur look rusty.

Cat plays on cat tree
Wheeee!

But wait, there’s MORE!

And here’s a bonus video from Deb G., saying goodbye to winter snow:

Lavender Tabby Brown loved our winter storm. I couldn’t get video of her actually batting at the snowflakes, but she did.

What is it with cats and sinks? All of the kitties are adorable! I have seen cats batting at snowflakes before. It amazes me the things they’ll go for. My sister’s kitties love those tiny pom-poms. They bat them around, pounce on them, hide them, and just walk around with them in their mouths!

It’s my babies! Yes Skye all grown up 😭 she will be a year old on the 25th of April.
Skye is not very tall or very long but she is heavy! I wouldn’t say fat exactly, more like dense and all her weight is in her back side, it’s really noticeable when you pick her up, her butt drags her down. She eats less than Storm and is twice as heavy!

Storm is a long lean house panther, she is usually elegant and dignified but she will sometime loose her mind on the cat tree like in the photo, at which point she looks like a ninja practicing her killing skills., all kicks and spins.

They also both still get the zoomies and run from one side of the house to the other sounding like a rampaging herd of elephants, not fun when it’s 3 o’clock in the morning!

Lavender has better get her snowflake batting done because the weather is suppose to get in the high 60’s (20C) this week.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Storm and Skye bring so much joy to the world, Georgiana!

Hope you’re recovered from your recent aches and pains.

Lavender got to watch the snow again on Tuesday, but we’re heading into 80-degree weather over the next week or so. Hopefully no more snow! We need it, but we’ve had a lot this past winter.

    Happy Caturday!

I babysat my mom last night and she seemed perfectly normal. After my dad got home she reminded him that babysitters make 20 bucks an hour (my cousin had to get a sitter for her grandkids [their parents were in Ireland] to come to my brother’s birthday dinner and that’s what she charged). I did not get paid (unless you count dinner and half a package of blueberries). Her BP machine showed kinda high but my dad said it’s old and they need to be recalibrated so hopefully it’s not accurate. He ordered a new one that should get there today.

Had a migraine yesterday so recovering from that. The headache is lingering a bit behind my left eye. Bleh.

Went for a walk earlier this week and I saw a dog that looked like a rottweiler in a basset hound’s body, and a gray French bulldog (I think) that looked like a bunny from the front.

Gonna try this next time I encounter a pile of leaves. “hippo hippo hippo”

I want a leafpile hippo so bad, I can taste it!

    • Kar April 8, 2023 / 3:55 pm

Someone may have mentioned this but when she goes to the doctor she should take it with her so that they can see if its calibrated, meaning that it gives the same reading that they get manually.

Love all the gorgeous kitties! Glad your mom is doing better Allein. And I’m going to try the hippo hippo hippo trick at the next pile of leaves I find and see what comes up. It is so cute!

OMGosh!! I am ded from teh qte!

Allein. Trying to visualize those doggies. Do you think it might have been the migraine? Just sayin’ 😁.

    • allein🐾 April 8, 2023 / 12:45 pm

No, they were before the migraine.

      • Kar April 8, 2023 / 1:35 pm

I imagine the stress with your mom didn’t help and may have triggered some of it.

Hope you and your mom are feeling better.

Did the doctors say that she can drive? Not the same as seizure protocol but can be a huge concern.

        • allein🐾 April 8, 2023 / 1:58 pm

I don’t know; I’ll ask when I see her tomorrow. I doubt my dad’s gonna let her drive anywhere, anyway.

  6. Duckie 🐥 April 8, 2023 / 1:15 pm

    Take care.

    • allein🐾 April 8, 2023 / 1:59 pm

      How are you doing, Duckie?

      • Duckie 🐥 April 8, 2023 / 2:09 pm

Feeling a bit better. Knowing what’s causing my feeling down helps. Too many things on my plate right now.

After a week in the 70’s suddenly its cold and gray when I’m actually going out for the evening.

Haven’t been to the symphony in years and can’t afford it but Einaudi’s never been to my city before so I indulged.

    • DEBG April 8, 2023 / 2:53 pm

Good for you! Treat yoself. And enjoy.

  8. DEBG April 8, 2023 / 2:56 pm

My darling Lav returns! This is the same snowstorm as the last video y’all saw, from a few months ago. She’s gotten bigger now–about 9 months old, and still as snuggly as ever.

I love seeing Storm and Skye glow up.

So glad I took yesterday off. I’m weaving kitchen towels for friends, and it took all morning yesterday to figure out mistakes in the warping. Now I’m zooming through the weaving–each towel will take maybe 3 hours to weave.

    Hugs to you all.

Fabulous cats this week! I’m looking forward to fostering when the house gets back to normal.

First the bad news: I have a dental abscess. Now the good news: the penicillin I was given for it for it cost me nothing – it was the first prescription I’ve had since turning 60!

I’m still finding it impossible to get hold of a handyman/carpenter to replace the Shortcakery doors, but next week I’m finally having various items of flatpack furniture assembled. This will enable me to find homes for the clothes and books still languishing in cardboard boxes. And the bathroom will be tiled next month, a few days before my short break in Stratford-upon-Avon.

In other news, next Wednesday I’m seeing a livesteam of the Royal Ballet’s new “Cinderella” at my local cinema. I was amazed to realise that it will be the first time I’ve set foot in the place since 2019!
