You have no idea how big a moose can be until you see one up close, I did once in a kind of wildlife zoo, he was just behind a flimsy wire fence that you could just stand right next to and I had my little dog with me and she kept yapping and the moose came right next to the fence and looked over it to see what was making that noise. We were about a foot apart and I had to bend my neck to look up at it, I’m just 5 feet tall but that thing towered over me by at least 2 feet!

From time to time I think about what it must have been like to be among the first couple batches of British colonists in the Americas, journeying from a land where moose are only known by reputation (and the European version is smaller), bears have been extinct for centuries, and the most dangerous snake is the adder.

I bet the first colonist to encounter a porcupine had a rough day.

I sometimes wonder what it must have been like to live in ancient Britain, when cattle and elk were the size of SUVs and wolves were as plentiful as urban foxes are today. And don’t get me started on the dragons and giants that we are reliably informed roamed the land!

Moose on the loose, Shaking my head, only in Alaska. I remember when I visited Alaska a few years back, at one of the hotels a wild moose had been seen on property and they actually had a “DANGER – Moose on the loose” sign before the walking trails to warn people to be alert and careful. Lainey and her kitties are adorable – and of course she deserves to take a break and be totally spoiled. It’s hard work raising kittens. Jealous pets had me cracking up, so much side eye being thrown.

Love the moose stories! An actual moose, or meeses, inside my place wouldn’t be so funny.

The jealous pets had me howling. I’m in love with sweet Lainie and her kittens.
