Why do rescue cats seem to be the most loving? Is it gratitude?
Research shows that humans judge basically everything in relative terms, from wealth to color. Kids from loving, safe homes think not getting to watch their favorite shows is a hardship. It makes sense to me that pets who’d formerly led hard lives are acutely aware of how good they have it, even if they don’t quite “get” the how and why.
The highest compliment a person can receive is to turn a fearful, timid animal into a spoiled princess, because that can only happen if the animal can no longer even conceive of not being safe and secure.

Happy for Ralphie the not-so-demon-dog.
Ralphie’s story brought me to happy tears. When a “problem” dog finds the right hoomin, everything changes. Also “He’s like Seabiscuit, but he’s the shape of a pig” will be the funniest thing I read all week.
BFB is so right about compliments from rescues. Scorpius’s purrs and cuddles now make my heart so happy, because his trust and happiness are so complete.
