    Thanks for the earworm, Mike.

      Don’t encourage him Allein!

It was the first thing that came to mind too, and I started singing and yodeling at 6 am. Thank goodness only the dogs were around to hear, lol.

      You beat me to it!

The dog on the slide is having the time of his life and he’s holding his leash in his mouth so nobody can complain that he’s not on a leash and that the leash is not being held!

I was waiting for that pup to start elbowing little kids out of the way. So sweet!

Poor thing was so scared in the boat. Don’t blame her, it ended so badly the last time she went in a boat.

That is a slide I could actually see me using!
    Bad day for breathing here.

Stay safe! We’re getting air quality alerts here in New Jersey from the Canadian fires. There’s also a forest fire about 10 miles from my house which started yesterday and as of when I just looked now is apparently mostly contained. Guess I won’t be going for a walk at lunch today.

You can smell the smoke in my office now. Outside is like a yellowish haze.

(There are no windows that open and we are not near an exterior door.)

You could smell it in my home a while back, and at one point the sky was a fairly dark red. Positively eerie.

When I was a kid, NYC air was full of the effluvia of garbage incinerators, coal-fired boilers, and pre-regulation car exhaust. When we drove back to the city from Long Island, we could smell when we hit the city limits, and the sky was often a greyish yellow. The burning smell today wasn’t quite as rank as the incinerator fumes of my childhood, but it took me right back.

And speaking of childhood memories, that dog is enjoying what we used to call a sliding pon(d). Very NYC term, not used elsewhere that I know of.

            • Dubravkamcvmd June 7, 2023 / 10:02 pm

OMG I forgot that term. Sliding pond – I immediately saw a play ground below the Triborough Bridge in Astoria where I used the sliding pond.

I just read that this smoke is making NYC have the worst air quality of any city in the world.

A friend just posted a picture she took of the sun on facebook. It just looks like a yellow circle with a red border, against a darker yellow background. It doesn’t even look real. Almost looks like someone made in MS Paint.

        Umm yeah.

More concerned if it’s FULLY contained or even better, FULLY extinguished.

I’m so glad we rarely get huge fires like that in England. The most pungent smell I have to deal with near the Shortcakery is that of melted chocolate from the Nestle (formerly Rowntrees) factory a few streets away.

          • allein 🐾 June 7, 2023 / 5:13 pm

I have a Nestle plant across the highway from me! But they do coffee. When it’s going to rain the whole area smells like coffee.

I did go to college in a town where there is an M&M Mars plant, so when the wind is right it smells like chocolate. (Though it’s in rural Pennsylvania so I’ll let you guess what it smells like when the wind is wrong…🐄)

Love the squirrel rescue story and doggy looks like he’s having so much fun. That slide is amazing, I think I’d even take a turn. For some reason I can’t play the goat video. Oh well, I’ll check it out later on another computer but looks like a great story.
