Greetings, art lovers, and welcome to the open thread. Today’s visitors, from reader Amy F., have adopted a classical pose:
I think my girls, Sophie (black nose) and Luna look a Renaissance painting here!
Here’s a bonus video of Hamster, from reader Tracy R., executing a flawless sidewalk roll.
The great van Fleurgen – a longtime favorite of mine! His ability to paint sunshine on canvas to look almost as though it was a photograph !
I love his “Still Life With Cauliflower, Violin and Wooden Leg”
*snerk*
Sophie and Luna make very pretty art models.
Yes that was a flawless roll maybe Hamster is ready for Cirque du Soleil?
It’s been a quiet week here, we usually go see the Formula 1 Grand Prix festivities on Crescent Street on the Friday before the race but neither one of us was up to it this year.
I find that the older I get the less I like crowds and my husband is still coughing a bit from the cold he got a month ago and the smoke from the fires up North isn’t helping.
Well that it for me, have a nice weekend everyone.
Happy Caturday! One more week of work and then I’m on vacation!
Some floral lessons with Olive & Mabel
I LOVE this one. He really is hilarious
Fabulous as always. Also that’s a glorious garden!
Wow – that wisteria is incredible! And those two – when he brings the camera closer to Olive and her ears drop and the tails wags. Gah! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for posting Allein.
PS: Caspar Wistar is from Philadelphia. Not related to the Wisters also from Philadelphia. We have both of their family papers in our collections and it’s not confusing at all.
Stunning models and the painting is so realistic. You go Hamster! Also love his harness.
Nothing much going on here this weekend, just usual errands and some shopping. Have Monday off for the new federal holiday Juneteenth. I’ll probably spend it doing yard work and house projects. Enjoy the weekend!
Van Fleurgen really falls into the Baroque era, not the Renaissance, if he was painting in 1684. The girls look gorgeous and cuddly. Also Hamster did execute a perfect roll–I give it 10 out of 10.
I’m off to get my hair cut and run errands before settling in for sewing, weaving, and spinning. My bedroom valance won’t sew itself! Nor will small display shelves hang themselves! After all the excitement of the last two weekends (seeing friends and Wool Market), it will be great to have a quiet one.
I can also get set up for the long 4th of July weekend: we get July 3 *and* July 4 off. So if I wind warp chains now, I can be fully prepped for my first project on my new loom–it came with a project on it that I’m finishing for the seller.
Hope you all are well. Take care of yourself in weird and/or smokey weather!
I’m sending this from my B&B in Haworth after four days of glorious weather (except for a brief rain shower this morning). Although I didn’t manage to do everything I hoped to accomplish, I visited the nearby villages where some of my ancestors lived and found the gravestone of my 5xgreat-grandparents Abraham and Grace Sunderland in Haworth churchyard. I also noticed a funny thing on a path behind the churchyard – an old paving slab crudely carved with the profile of a cowboy and the name Tom Mix! Some local fan of early western films must have put quite some time and effort into commemorating their idol.
Sounds like a lovely visit
You sent your rain to Colorado! So glad you had a nice trip.
We just had a little downpour and now it’s sunny again.
Lurking.
Lurking 2
Oh my – couple a beauty queens we got here! They look so sweet together. And Hamster has some freedom. What a nice way to start the day.
Been busy – frogging a sweater I was given when I was a teenager (many – MANY years ago) and have not worn in at least 30 years. Will recycle the yarn and knit something else. The recent rain made my raspberries explode. Really. They are bigger than ever and so sweet. I picked 10 cups this week. Made raspberry jam. Accidentally dropped a jar (a small one with not much in it) but I’ll probably have to repaint the kitchen because it went everywhere. I still have more raspberries to pick and some strawberries – then back to ripping up this sweater.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Actually sweet raspberries! Wow! I’m never able to get any that taste better than indeterminately flavored chlorophyll
I would buy these just for the packaging.
Me, too! They would end up getting pushed around in my pantry for years…occasionally I would find them and they would make me laugh…then I would tuck them away to find in my next pantry overhaul 😂
That is awesome packaging!!
Long time lurker here, excited to see my monsters posted on Caturday! I brought them home the Wednesday before Thanksgiving 2020, just three days after my beloved 21 year old kitty, Twenty, passed away. I vowed to take a break from pet ownership for at least a year but, through a friend, I found out about these (at the time) one-year-old litter mates who needed to be re-homed. Best decision I ever made!
Amy, you find the right kitties at the right time, with little heart-mending kits in tow. They’re lovely tuxies!
