Birds spike the system, senior dog gets new home, chatty cat, wiggly wombat, and more.
Crows and magpies using anti-bird spikes to build nests, researchers find

And finally: Wombat Woodrow
The last time we checked in on Woodrow, he was put off by the wacky antics of his neighbor Tabmow. But now it’s Woodrow’s turn to get crazy.
💕Love Woodrow!💕Love Wombat Wednesday!💕
Nonna’s leetle tongue sticking out and her rolls to her back☺️
So glad that Biscuit was rescued AND that her Feline Leukemia was a false positive! I didn’t know that was possible with F.L. in young kittens! My sister’s little rescue kitty has FL so I will let her know this!
The birds making nests out of anti-bird spikes is so much a 😛 at people! “You put this up to deter me, but I’LL show what I think of that!”
And now YOU stay out of MY nest!! 🤣
I so cannot wait for the end of the day. The parrot story has me giggling in anticipation.
Wombat whiskers!
What made me the most angry in the story of Sophia the elderly dog is the way the shelter person describes the lack of emotion of the people abandoning the poor dog “It was like a couch that didn’t work with the living room anymore, or clothing that didn’t fit,” 🤬
The story of Sophia the elderly dog was enraging but now she’s way better off. I love that the crows and magpies figured out what the spikes were for and thought they could also use them as deterrents. So smart.
Nonna and Stevie! I love the way they bounce down the stairs ❤, and Nonna’s little curled blep.
Okay, the crow/magpie nest story links to another story about ducks and, well, maybe don’t click on that…
Happy for little Biscuit, and Sophia, for their new homes.
Yeah, that duck story. I saw the description and was like nope, definitely not clicking on the link! And I thought the human world was weird.
Magpie & crow nesting story cracked me up. Talk about giving a finger to the human race – ya wanna keep ME out???? I’ll show you!
Nonna & Stevie, such sweet BFFs and so happy that Nonna is out of her previous situation, she’s now living the sweet life. And yeah for Biscuit and Sophia both being rescued into loving homes. I was ticked off too about how someone just dropped off Sophia at the rescue but to be fair, we don’t know the back story. Maybe the owner passed or went into a nursing home and this was a family member/friend that couldn’t keep her.
Screaming parrots, that sounds sooo familiar. Used to have one that wasn’t as screamy but could mimic other sounds to perfection. Once got my husband out of bed thinking his phone was going off. Also used to have a cat whose meow sounded like a baby crying. So many people hearing it in the background of my phone calls thought I had a kid.
AJ, you have a much, much more generous spirit than I have. The last paragraph in the story of Sophia really got to me — she didn’t understand why her people were leaving her. And I would have to think if there was a reasonable explanation for Sophia being taken to a rescue, that would have been part of the story. But I’m so thankful that a kind vet and his family did find room in their hearts to give her a lovely home for however many years she has left. Sometimes there are terrible people in this world; but, I have to hope, that there are more often wonderful people in this world.
Humans: This will keep those pesky birds from making nests on our buildings.
Birds: The humans gave us new spiky nest material. This will help keep our babies safe. Thanks!
My favorite bird story is the woodpeckers who caused $2 million worth of damage to a NASA rocket in 1995. https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1995/07/12/nasas-scare-tactics-keep-birds-at-bay/aa79364b-2675-497c-8667-c0a3978bf887/
To put it in context, the NASA Kennedy Space Center is located near a wildlife bird refuge and as neighbors they don’t always get along.
I have a friend who got her Masters tracking the birds in that sanctuary.
In reality was practically a rattlesnake sanctuary back in the day. I shudder to think what lives there now.
growing up our neighbors almost called the police because our baby kept crying but were confused because we had no baby.
It was our seal point.
🤣
