Sorry, have to complain to someone. My power has been out for 8 1/2 HOURS!!!! With nothing from IMP but “we’re assessing conditions”. I will have to get rid of all my food, my Dad’s funeral is tomorrow, and I’ve got relatives coming into town this afternoon. Arrrrrrrrrrgh😫😫😫

    Sorry. *sigh*

Penny is of course very cute, tho it’s hot enuff I’m glad I’m not near the floofy fur!
“Blerm”? “Mlep”? I don’t understand. Must be a cat thing.

Oh no 6Rabbit! What an awful situation. Hoping things get resolved very soon. ❤️

    • Ricky & Bibi's Mom July 29, 2023 / 9:12 am

My condolences on the death of your father. The power woes really add insult to injury—or injury to injury, really—and you have my sympathy there, too. I hope your power is restored soon. We’re all on warning to conserve energy here in NYC. I’m hoping the heat wave truly breaks tomorrow, as currently predicted.

So very sorry. Did we know about your dad? My condolences. Kitties are sending some soothing purrs.

      • 6rabbit July 29, 2023 / 12:22 pm

No, I hadn’t said anything. Too upset.

        I&M now says 11 PM restoration—for most.

Oh geez. Sorry to hear about your Dad. It’s tough enough just dealing with the emotions, service and family, but to lose your power, needing to replace the lost food, and having company, makes it a lot harder. Hope you can find stores or restaurants open, to help you.

    • N. Fritz July 29, 2023 / 11:52 am

Heartfelt condolences, 6rabbits. I hope the power situation is resolved soon and that you and your family can share memories of your father.

So sorry about your dad passing and your electricity problem. Would your home insurance covert the lost of food at least?

      • 6rabbit July 30, 2023 / 8:42 am

        Deductible too high.

I’m so sorry about your dad, 6Rabbit. Sending virtual hugs to you and your family. Hope your power comes back soon.

I just came here in hopes of a post, because I didn’t get the email…

No power outages here, but my air conditioner stopped working on Sunday night. It was running and blowing air that didn’t seem especially warm, but also not quite as cold as normal, but at some point I thought, “this seems like it’s been running for a really long time…”. I checked and the thermostat said it was 80 inside but it wanted to be 76, so it just kept running without getting anywhere. I changed the filter (which was overdue), and turned it off for a while to let it “rest” (as advised by my dad), but those didn’t help. So I just turned it off so it wouldn’t run all night. Called on Monday and they said they could send someone Tuesday between 8am and 8pm. I worked from home that day so whatever. He showed up mid-morning and discovered that the power to the outside fan wasn’t working (I think he said it was the capacitor), so the unit was running and blowing air but the fan wasn’t spinning. Easy fix and covered by my maintenance plan with the gas company, so other than a couple warm nights (which weren’t too bad with the ceiling fan going; it was hotter the past two days than it was earlier in the week), it’s all good now.

This weekend is a work-on-Sunday week, which means I’ll miss my friend’s daughter’s 11th birthday party, but I might try to go over later in the day (frankly I’m not all that excited for a backyard party in the heat, anyway, though it’s at least supposed to be a little cooler tomorrow).

I don’t like to fly but I wish I was on this flight.

      That is a precious pup!

She has a big sister named Lou who is a slightly bigger version of her. The Youtube Algorithm gods started randomly giving me their short videos and I’m not complaining.

Nightmare fuel. Between the sinister glowing red eyes and the accessory, I’m going to be awake all night!😁

    • 6rabbit July 29, 2023 / 12:24 pm

How in the he** does a cat end up with a BAT on her collar?!

    • Georgiana July 29, 2023 / 3:36 pm

Is that a real bat hanging from her collar? 😳

Happy Caturday, everyone. Penny is beautiful as always, and there’s definitely too much tongue for a blep.

Hugs and healing purrs to everybody dealing with deaths, extreme heat, power outages, etc. Sorry things are so rough right now, and hoping that your troubles ease soon.

I’m enjoying a quiet weekend, after the whirlwind of social activity last weekend. Will warp the loom, do the usual chores and errands, and maybe go to see Barbie.

I’m about to start the first big home improvement project in the condo: changing out stuff in the kitchen that I don’t like. The previous owners had no/bland taste, and it’s time for a look with some character! I’m getting new kitchen countertops installed (which also means a sink and faucet). I can handle swapping out light fixtures and cabinet handles. Then there’s fabric coming in to re-cover cushions on the couch: seat cushions in navy velvet and back cushions to match the window valances. Love my little place so much, and these upgrades will make it even more pleasant.

Again, hugs to you all. I’m so grateful for our community here–you’ve been there for me so many times.

I need to replace my countertops, too. I’d love to do the cabinets as well but I don’t know if I’d want to tear them all out. Maybe have them refaced at some point. The cabinets themselves are fine structurally but the doors/drawer fronts are particleboard and have absorbed all the moisture and oils that come in a kitchen over the years, and don’t look very good. I’d replace them with real wood that can be wiped down without sucking up the moisture (since any protective cover/paint on the edges of what’s there now is long gone).

I’d love to get a double sink, too, so I can have the dish drainer on one side and the water can just go down the drain, instead of it taking up space on my counter with a mat underneath, but I’m not sure if it would fit (my sink is across the corner; I looked online and they at least wouldn’t fit the opening for the sink as it currently is).

Also need new carpet but I have no where to move furniture to so that would be interesting…

      • DEBG July 29, 2023 / 1:40 pm

My two cents, after renovating 3 kitchens:
        – Sink size is constrained only by the base cabinet, not the opening.
        – Solid surface (corian) and quartz (my fave) countertops are cut to fit the new sink. Get the sink first, then when the countertop people come to measure for templating, they’ll cut the opening for the sink.
        – Look at undermount workstation sinks–they come with all kinds of accessories that will sit on the sink’s ledge.
        – With double basin sinks, you will lose a lot of storage space in the cabinet underneath. If, for instance, you want a rollout trash bin in that cabinet, it won’t fit. I’m going from double to single for that very reason.
        – Probably refacing the cabinets will be much cheaper than replacing them. Home Depot and Lowes both offer free consultations with kitchen designers who know all the options and can estimate costs based on your choices.

        • allein 🐾 July 29, 2023 / 1:53 pm

I don’t keep much under there, anyway. Since it’s a corner cabinet it’s kind of awkward and most of the space is too far back to be useful since I can’t reach anything without literally sitting on the floor and practically crawling inside.

I also have a triangle of sorta-dead space behind the sink. I have stuff there, but I’ve never really found a good way to arrange it.

          • DEBG July 29, 2023 / 2:10 pm

If you can install pull-outs or those rotating things, the space will be much more useful. Base cabinets are always a pain, and corner ones are especially useless because there’s so much dead space.

            • Ricky & Bibi's Mom July 29, 2023 / 6:31 pm

              Speaking from experience, I agree!

        • Allu July 31, 2023 / 7:23 am

I have been very happy with top grade Formica countertops. Hey, I am not Wilma Flintstone and cook on granite or some other stone, too harsh for my ears!

  4. Duckie 🐥 July 29, 2023 / 12:50 pm

    Cat’s got Penny’s tongue.
Gentle feathered hugs to everyone, no matter how things are. We can all use a hug.
Duckie is channeling her inner shark this morning. She’s dilated her eyes to their fullest, and there’s a pinpoint of light from the lamp, making them look like shark eyes. She’s crouched over and looking at me from her vulture stance, and, to be honest, I’m a little nervous.
Yesterday, for no reason that I could detect, I felt an overwhelming surge of optimism flow over me. I don’t know where it came from, but I’m running (limping?) with it as much as I can. If anyone else needs some optimism, let me know. I have plenty to share.
Off for coffee and shopping with my BFF, then home to make potato salad for supper.
    Have a great weekend, everyone.

    • DEBG July 29, 2023 / 1:41 pm

      Huzzah for optimism!

Also little Duckie is making me nervous too, and I’m not even there. (It’s my shark phobia.)

  5. Georgiana July 29, 2023 / 3:45 pm

Penny is gorgeous as always whether she’s doing a mlerm or a blep.

I’m late to the site today it’s the first weekend in a while that we have nothing at all planned and so we slept in.

Yesterday was the one year anniversary of adopting Skye and Storm so I gave them each extra treats, Minnie doesn’t eat treats since she has no teeth.

Heartfelt condolences 6Rabbits on the loss of your father, I hope your electricity comes back soon.
