Weekend Open Thread

Time again for the open thread and a peek at the oh-so-rubbable belleh of Skye. Georgiana Y. shares the deets:

I love Skye’s belly with all i’s different colour spots, also her fur is incredibly soft. She loves belly rubs and will even let me rub my face on her belly.

Cat, white with black spots, lies on her back, invitingly exposing her belly
However, I am not a substitute for a napkin.

I want to rub my face on that kitty belly! How prosh! Does she shed a lot?

    • Georgiana August 12, 2023 / 9:24 am

No not a lot and she loves being brushed so I’m sure that helps.

Gorgeous picture of Skye! I see some Accidental Renaissance going on in that photo.

None of my cats would have tolerated this kind of over-familiarity. A punch in the face with a murder mitten would have been the most likely outcome!

Health update re. the jaundice/Deranged Liver Function situation: I went for another blood test on Wednesday and was happy to discover that my liver is somewhat less deranged. It’s gone from being a serial killer to a timeshare scammer, and over the next few weeks I’m hoping it will transform from a liver that shouts incoherent threats outside a government building to a productive member of the body politic. The cause of the disturbance remains a mystery, but it may have been a virus that didn’t register on the hepatitis/HIV screen. The jaundice has abated slightly but I still look a bit minionish. There will be no need for readmittance to hospital or a liver biopsy, and provided I take things easy I will still be able to go on holiday at the end of this week to the Whitby Folk Festival. I’ve been told to avoid alcohol for the foreseeable future, so I will be unable to perform my traditional feat of making one pint of beer last for up to four hours…

Alice, your description of your liver had me in stitches.
        🤣

        • Sedro6 August 12, 2023 / 12:50 pm

          Indeed!

      • Georgiana August 12, 2023 / 12:42 pm

Glad that your liver has seen the light and mended it’s warring ways and that you feel better!

      • DEBG August 12, 2023 / 1:24 pm

Alice, this is great news. We’ve been worried, and I’m sure you have been too.

Never before has medical news made me laugh so loudly.

      • Dubravkamcvmd August 12, 2023 / 2:59 pm

I’m a big believer in not worrying as long as it’s getting better, so Good News!

      • 6rabbit August 12, 2023 / 3:53 pm

        YAY!! Be good liver!

      • AJ August 12, 2023 / 5:11 pm

If laughter is the best medicine, then you and us are all cured. It’s a miracle! Glad to hear you’re on the mend and still can go on holiday. Enjoy the festivities, and since you can’t have alcohol, maybe you can try for a new record – how long can one nurse a near beer? Enjoy!

      • Kar August 12, 2023 / 6:26 pm

I hadn’t realized that your liver was on the No Fly list.

Glad to hear that its being downgraded to “Karen” status.

(Boy am I glad my mother never found out what that name’s become_

        • Duckie 🐥 August 12, 2023 / 7:12 pm

          🤣

          • Alice Shortcake August 13, 2023 / 6:36 am

Thanks, all! I’m really looking forward to my first full-length holiday for eleven years, but if I’m tempted to climb the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey to partake of the coffee and cakes at the Youth Hostel cafe I’ll be pausing for a rest several times…

      • Ricky & Bibi's Mom August 13, 2023 / 5:43 pm

Oh, Alice, you are a STITCH! I’m so glad your condition is improving, and I hope that soon you will be able to to report complete recovery. Bibi adds healing puppy kisses and encouragement.

    • DEBG August 12, 2023 / 1:25 pm

Oooh oooh I want one too.

    • 6rabbit August 12, 2023 / 3:54 pm

      I love it!💕

    • AJ August 12, 2023 / 4:36 pm

Thats is just adorable! Joining the line to get one. Just imagine, if burglars (or guests) get out of line, he can breathe on them. At the same time, I don’t wanna know about his farts! 🤣😂🤪😜

  3. Dulcie August 12, 2023 / 9:01 am

    It’s a mackerel skye!
    Definitely looks oh so soft.

  4. Georgiana August 12, 2023 / 9:20 am

Hello everyone, I really think Skye’s belleh should be considered a work of art. She really love belleh rubs, at night she will wait on my bed and I have to rub her belleh until she “falls asleep” before putting her in her bed with Storm.

Today is our 17th wedding anniversary so we will just eat out tonight at the neighborhood restaurant and maybe have a beer or a glass of wine.

We don’t do a big celebration because, 1 we never intended to get married and 2 we had already been together for 31 years when we got legally married in 2006.
Also we only did it because we were getting older and legally it’s much simpler if you’re married and we could do it cheap in our backyard with my brother in law officiating,

Well that’s it for me this week, hope everyone has a good weekend!

    • belphebe August 12, 2023 / 11:24 am

Congratulations, Georgiana, on having such a wonderful, long relationship!
I have heard from others that they got married for legal reasons, and some who are contemplating getting married because they are getting older and that is the best way to have their wishes respected.
I’m happy for you and your partner that you have been together so long.

And Skye is adorable. What a pretty belly she has.

I’m not doing much today. Making sure I’ve got everything packed for my vacation, since I have to head to the airport early tomorrow.

  5. Duckie 🐥 August 12, 2023 / 11:57 am

Good morning, beautiful Skye. Yes, I will rub your belly for as long as you want.
All is grumpy in Duckieville. Stupid airshow schedule had a 9pm flyover of the planes involved, and every child and animal around me freaked out, including poor little Duckie. Birds, cat, dogs, humans, everything. I sense a scathing letter writing session from people this week. Good thing the rest of the loud events stop at 5pm today and tomorrow, but still!
We also have a heatwave starting tomorrow, and neither Duckie nor I do well in heat.
Fellow Cutetropolitans, I would like to ask everyone for a strange favour. I know our web population spans a good portion of the world, and that the rest of the globe is probably covered through other relationships. In the hopes that this request will get worldwide coverage, somehow, I ask.
I am a huge fan of Frances Hodgkin Burnett’s “A Little Princess”, and I have all versions of the story, plus sequels. I also have most of the movies. However, I found out this week that there are three other movie versions I didn’t know about. If people could please keep eyes and ears open for them, I would be extremely grateful.
    So:
A Little Princess 1973, with Deborah Makepeace playing Sara.
Sara Crewe 1951, with Patricia Fryer as Sara.
Sara Crewe 1957, with Carol Wolveridge as Sara.
Hopefully, everyone has a better weekend than we’re having.

    • 6rabbit August 12, 2023 / 4:33 pm

I LOVE the 1995 version with Liesel Matthews! I have not seen every version, but that is my favorite—I have watched it *many* times!

I looked up A Little Princess, and Wikipedia only lists 8 movies based on it. The 1951 or 1957 versions are not mentioned anywhere on-line. I did find theater versions called “Sara Crewe” but with performances in the 2000s.

Of the 1973 version Wikipedia said, “ Despite its success and faithfulness to the novel, the master videotapes for the adaptation were wiped after broadcast, and no copies are known to exist.”☹️

IMbd DOES mention Pat Fryer playing Sara Crewe in the correct year, but with no further info

    Happy Anniversary, Georgiana!

Alice, I hope you continue to improve, and have fun at your festival!

  7. DEBG August 12, 2023 / 1:34 pm

Happy Caturday, everybody! Sky has a fantastically lovely belleh. I envy Georgiana, who gets to rub it all the time.

I’m THIS CLOSE to finishing shopping for the kitchen redo–just have to buy cabinet hardware! Countertops, sink, etc. will still take another 6 weeks or so. I installed the new lighting last weekend and it looks so much better, because it’s got some character! Plus I finally get to use a fixture I bought for the last kitchen, back in 2016, that just didn’t work in that space.

The rest of this weekend will be blessedly quiet: weaving, spinning, knitting, chores. Work has been pretty intense, what with the new website. It’s great to decompress with the kitties for a few days.

    Flutterbyes!

I want to live in the magical world of Olive & Mabel…

    • 6rabbit August 12, 2023 / 4:00 pm

I love his back yard! The butterflies are beautiful!
Olive is just waiting…”get on with it dad”, and Mabel is forever ready to…RUN!

      • DEBG August 12, 2023 / 9:42 pm

Yes, it’s a gorgeous place with gorgeous creatures.

    Happy Caturday All,
Skye is just gorgeous. And look at all the “you might also likes!” Other people with their hands on kitty bellies. Wow.
Quiet day here, nice weather, shower blew through while I was a petsmart stocking up. I’m kitty-sitting upstairs’ kitty Ginko – a beautiful grey and white. But so lonely when Mommy is gone. I spent an hour this morning with him. Ran errands, now I’m trying to do my ‘homework’ but I’d rather poke around on the internets looking at cute critters.
Alice, glad to hear you are on the mend!

  10. Sowmya August 12, 2023 / 4:11 pm

Glad for everyone’s good news, and here’s hoping for improved weather/health for us all!

Was so sad to read that the little baby walrus that needed cuddling (see Links Aug 7) is no more. 😢 I guess this little Walruslet has wiggled its way over the Rainbow Bridge 🌈 and is now galumphing with its forbears. RIP

    • allein 🐾 August 12, 2023 / 4:14 pm

😢 Poor baby…glad he got lots of love before he went.

    • DEBG August 13, 2023 / 1:09 pm

So sad. But he did get plenty of love.
