It’s another Caturday and time for the open thread, but today’s visitor, Hamster, doesn’t look too enthusiastic. “The dictionary definition of ennui,” notes sender-inner Tracy R.

Poor Hamster. You know things are bad when even jingle balls lose their charm.
Excuse me if I’m semi incoherent this morning. The dogs were grumbling/barking almost hourly at who knows what. I think they could sense the incoming storm. Saw an impressive lighting storm over the mountains when I took them out, first for me in San Diego. Going to be an odd weekend here in SoCal. First have to secure anything loose outside, run all errands today, and then depending on when the rain shows up, hunker down tomorrow. And the university is giving us the go ahead to remote work on Monday. Personally, I don’t think it’s going to be that bad, been through these when I lived in FL so I know the drill. But SoCal hasn’t been in the path of a tropical storm in like 50+ years so everyone else is running around like Henny Penny.
I lost a few hours of sleep twice this past week because of night-time thunderstorms. Bibi is beyond terrified of them; she tries to dig holes in walls so she can hide inside them. I have to wrap her up in her blankie and hold onto her under *my* blankie to calm her down somewhat—while being terrified that I’ll smother her.
The humidity has finally lifted a bit here, and the worst of my three-week headache has eased quite a bit. I’m sure sinuses serve a genuine purpose, but mine seem to exist to plague me.
Am digitizing a bunch of old cassette tapes so that I can recycle the tapes and their cases. This has to be done in real time, and so I’m listening to a lot of things I haven’t heard in years. Many of them are accent and dialect recordings I made for my own collection. But right now I’m listening to The Best of NPR: Eyewitness to History. A lot of it is about terribly upsetting, horrible events, but hearing people who were there discussing what it was like to live through it is uplifting. It’s out of print, but there are a few cassettes floating around in used-book outlets. I recommend it, if you still have the means to listen to cassette tapes.
That sounds very interesting R and B’s mom.
Aw, poor Hamster. I know the feeling.
Had the day off yesterday; had an appointment in the morning, then went to Starbucks and got some tea, then went to the bookstore and wandered for a bit. Then did some errands and went home and had corn on the cob for dinner. Hadn’t been to Starbucks in so long that the app had logged me out and I couldn’t remember my password…had to actually order at the counter and use my physical gift card (which thankfully is still in my wallet) for the first time in possibly a couple years at least. Should probably look up my password and log back in…
Mindlessly scrolling facebook last night and this popped up.
My birthday’s coming up…just sayin’ 😉
That is freakin’ adorable!🥰
Mine is too and now I want a cappy cake!
Good Morning beautiful Hamster. Its okay baby, take a break. As soon as mommy crinkles that treat bag I’m sure you’ll find energy.
Happy Caturday all! I’m just catching up with yesterday’s posts and I must say, I really enjoyed all the tsk-tsking over letting kitty think fingers are toys 😆. As usual, y’all are spot on. I have rescue guy who was returned twice before I got him who I think was trained that hands are toys and then played to rough so he went back. It’s taken a dozen years and it’s still not trained out of him, but things are better. He nips gentler and he lets me trim his claws.

I could never eat that potato. And I love potatoes.

Happy Caturday, everyone! Hamster, you’re allowed to be bored. And you’re always beautiful.
Sending out good thoughts that people will be okay in this extreme weather. It’s horrifying just to hear about. I can’t imagine being in the thick of it.
I’m decompressing after a long week. For the first time since before COVID, I drove down to the office for 4 straight days! (Website creation is easier onsite, for various reasons.) I’m so thankful for my current schedule of 3 days working at home and 2 in the office. The website is supposed to launch next week–a big weight off my shoulders, and I don’t even have to do the really technical stuff. So I’ll stay home this weekend with the kitties, doing the usual things and catching up on exercise and sleep.
Hugs to you all.
Not a very good morning in Duckieville.
We’re keeping an eye on all the fires burning in BC, and I am scared. The smoke arrived this morning, and it looks hellish outside.
Hamster, make the most of relaxed boredom. You deserve it.
🙁 Hope they don’t get too close to you.
Saw news about Yellowknife being evacuated…scary stuff.
Oh God yes Duckie. It must be so scary.
We have so many friends and rellies there…much worry.
Thinking good thoughts for you and I’ll try to send my rain your way.
Bibi and I are sending good wishes to you, yours, and everyone in the wildfire path.
Whether he is feeling bored or happy Hamster is always beautiful!
I’ve been informed that my hand operation Monday will be at 8h00 in the morning so I’m spending the weekend doing thing in advance that require 2 hands like laundry and preparing and freezing some food for next week.
It might all be for nothing since I have no idea how big the bandage will be and if I can use my right hand a little or not at all, and of course my husband keep saying he’ll do anything and everything to help but I really hate to ask for help and I hate feeling dependent on someone else even him after 48 years together.
Hope everyone as a good weekend.
Good luck G! And take the extra “hand” if you need it!
Ditto. And ditto!
Hamster could make a living on the stage. He can really project boredom
It was a glorious day in Whitby today. I didn’t realize how warm it was until I got back to the guest house tonight and noticed that my arms were sunburned – the past few weeks have been so wet and miserable it never occurred to me to bring suntan lotion!
So happy to hear cheerful news from you! I hope your sunburn isn’t too severe.
Glad you had a good day!
