Weekend Open Thread

Welcome to the weekend! Today we say hello to an adorable productivity killer with a craving for belly rubs, from reader Julie W.:

Ladybug, of pandemic WFH fame, had to have her belly shaved a while ago for the vet. While her fur has been growing back in, she has informed us that she likes and wants, in fact insists on, belly rubs. She is now past the prickly/cold phase and her fur is soft again, but the minute i sit at my laptop, she still demands upside down belly rubs. With the volume all the way up, you can hear the purrs.

I love when they have that sort of whistling high note in their purrs

That is one blissed out cat. The purrs were just wonderful, I could fall asleep to that.

I love Ladybug’s coloration and she has the sweetest purr!

The big news of the week is that after more than 18 years we took down the outdated wood Venetian blinds in the living room and replace them with a double rod and curtains.
I bought the nice thick curtain that we only close them in the evening so people can’t see into the house but for the shears underneath I bought the cheapest I could find $5 each.

Why would I do that you ask?

Because just as I though it took only 15 minutes after we installed the shears for Skye to sink her claws in it and make tiny holes in the first panel and you know what I don’t care, when it gets too damaged I’ll simply replace it with a new one of the extras I bough 😊

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Georgiana, I do the same thing: buy really cheap curtains (and inexpensive coverlets for the bed) because they’ll get TRASHED.

Skye’s too pretty to worry about consequences.

PS finished Starter Villain last evening and loved it. Will enjoy listening to it over and over.

Ladybug should have recorded her purrs and sold them as therapy during the pandemic.
Little Duckie is recovering from her moult. New feathers are growing in everywhere, especially on her tiny head, and covering up the pink skin nicely. Her new wing and tail feathers are causing balance issues, but that’s okay. She’s begun singing again, too.
I submitted my River Song manuscript to a publishing agent this week, so we’ll see how that goes.
We’re supposed to get LOTS of rain next week, so I am going to do my fall house cleaning then.
Points redemption shopping day coming up.
Still negative for Covid. Found out that, not only will I be getting my flu and Covid vaccines this fall, but also two pneumonia vaccines! As soon as I find out when, I’ll stock up on chocolate. Maybe I’ll get some new books for those two weeks, too.
Off to break down and clean a certain tiny bird’s cage.
    Have a great weekend, everyone.

Duckie, be careful with agents and publishers. There are a LOT of crooks out there preying on inexperienced writers.

Yes. I chose a reputable Canadian company that specializes in first time authors, and only sent in ten pages. But thank you for the reminder.

Wait River Song? From Doctor Who?

      • Alice Shortcake September 23, 2023 / 5:32 pm

The problem is that River Song is someone else’s intellectual property. Fanfic is OK if the author doesn’t benefit financially (ie Archive Of Our Own), but if you want to be published you’ll have to “file off the serial numbers” by changing character/place names, etc. Quite a few successful novels started out as fanfic.

Yes, River Song from Doctor Who. I need a legitimate agent to submit it to the BBC, otherwise it’s a no go.

Belleh cats are the best. It soothes their hoomins as well to rub a kitty tumtum. Ladybug clearly has you well trained.

We’re all enjoying the cooler fall weather here. I’m also reveling in the new look of my kitchen–everything turned out beautifully. This weekend, I’m sewing appliance covers before friends come over next Saturday. Wish the cats didn’t get so scared around other people; the 4 younger ones would love my friends if they could get over their fear.

    Hope you all are well.

Rainy Caturday here in NJ. Ladybug is welcome to come fill my living with purrs.

I want to play golf with Olive & Mabel! It looks like fun!

    • Kar September 23, 2023 / 5:10 pm

I always hear Robin Williams voice when I’m watching golf.

That Scottish accent isn’t helping but at least the caddies are cute.

One of my all time faves!

        😂

Never saw that one before. Thanks for sharing!

In the version from his Live on Broadway show, it’s even funnier. Also NSFW.
