She looks like a hippo, snorts like a pig, and today she joins the Girl With the Dogs for some good clean fun. Sushi the Shar Pei isn’t so sure about it all, but treats and hugs keep her on board.

I didn’t realize that they could be the wrong fur type? Why is this kind bad and what do the others look like?
This is the type I’m familiar with, shorter fur that the one on the video.
Me too!
I did look it up: Apparently the Bear coat is not recognized by show associations, but the hard part is that the longer fur covers up the wrinkles which DO have to be cleaned or mange can occur😬. There is no difference in temperament. Those skin wrinkles take a lot of care!
I thought it was just me! I saw the puppy and was thinking that fur looks too long but maybe it’s just because she’s a puppy. Dog breeders say that the bear coat is a recessive gene from when the chow chows were interbred with shar peis to save the breed.. Interestingly there is another unuusal coat color called the flowered shar pei – https://nationalpurebreddogday.com/flowered-shar-pei/
He looks like he’s wrapped in a fuzzy throw blanket.
