Thanks for asking Tara. Not near me but I know the area plus one of my co-worker’s son-in-law lives about 2 streets away from the crash site. Unfortunately that’s what happens when we have airports with neighborhoods that are built or expand around them. There’s about 3 here in San Diego plus the military base and all have had horrible accidents with crashes. And our international airport is literally right downtown. I have to warn people that have never landed at San Diego’s airport to not panic when you start seeing the buildings getting closer, just wave to the nice people in the offices as you go by.
I saw a video the other day of a plane that looked like it was super-low passing over the highway (parkway or turnpike, I don’t remember) to land at Newark. From the comments it seems like it was just landing on a less-used runway so it was approaching from a different direction than most planes, but I can’t say I wouldn’t have freaked out a bit if I was driving down that road at the time.

With all the bad news with the plane crash, this probably the best photo of caring done by police/animal law enforcement agents. Last I heard, about 12-15 pets were rescued by our Humane Society and brought to the shelter to be decontaminated from any jet fuel. Already several pets have been reunited with their family.
